Weight loss support thread

Got a gym membership. Want to lose 30 pounds before next year. Would be cool if I could do it before the end of the summer though. Gonna start going after work 3 times a day starting today.

Wanted to post this for myself to be able to refer back to. 16May22, 230lbs
3 times a day? Don't overdo it so early man. Try and hit 3-5 times a week and slowly improve from there once you have a routine for yourself set

I’m trying to lose some relationship weight I gained but I don’t have time to go to the gym since my job requires me there pretty much 24/7. I’m on my feet running around all day at least, but still hasn’t been enough cause all there is to do for fun here is eat and that’s what caused the weight gain in the first place lmao.
Anyone have any easy meal ideas for weight loss? I’ve been drinking whey protein shakes for breakfast before work, but could probably add some variety to my diet.

There's nothing easier than oatmeal and it's very versatile. You can add fresh apples/pears/peaches/bananas, raisins, frozen/fresh berries, butter, peanut butter, cinnamon, honey, or make something different by adding it to a jar of greek yogurt overnight with some of the above, with the additional of almonds or walnuts to make a multi-textured dish. If you don't overdo it with the sugary stuff you are getting a good amount of nutrients and fiber for very little "cost". Make sure you have some form of fat in there as well, be it the yogurt or butter/peanut butter. You could easily microwave hot oatmeal for breakfast and carry an oatmeal-yogurt jar to work for lunch. The versatility of it will keep you from looking for "fun" foods.

Not trying to be cheeky, but the best weight loss meal is water and air. If that's not your bag what you need to do is set a strict calorie limit everyday that's well below your maintenance (500-1000 kcals). Install an app on your phone and autistically track every crumb that passes your lips. Hold yourself to the limit no matter how hungry you feel, a lot of the time it's boredom pangs as opposed to real hunger. Once your stomach shrinks after a couple weeks you won't feel so hungry. Exercise helps since it causes you to "buy back" calories and distract you from hunger pangs but it's not necessary if you follow the above advice.

Now, going off what @Mega Man 2 Intro - NES said. It's correct, but other foods are good for their macros to calorie ratio. Chicken and eggs are fairly low calorie but give you a good jolt of protein, and the animal fat helps with satiety. Spinach and broccoli are superfoods, but don't discount any leafy green like kale and chard, it all works okay. Avocados are good if you don't mind high fat, and the best sweet fruits are strawberries, blueberries, apples, bananas, and kiwi. You mostly want to avoid carbs, but the best ones are oatmeal, rice (it's a complete protein when mixed with beans), potatoes, and yams. Fermented foods are low calorie and are supposed to be good for your gut: plain yogurt, kimchi, and saurkraut to name three. Also, drink lots of water. If you must drink something else, plain coffee and tea have next to no calories and the caffeine will suppress your appetite. Good luck, stick to your goals and you'll make it.

This but you can also make it savory by adding an egg and maybe some taco seasoning. I also like adding left over shredded chicken breast and a few slices of avocado. Look up "Savory oatmeal recipe" and you will find a lot of recipes for savory oatmeal

My mom and I attempted weight watchers a while ago for my wedding and gave me this list of zero point foods for the "purple plan" (it had the most zero point foods of the three plans, but it only had eight points you can use a day as a result) that I often use as a guideline even though I am not on weight watchers anymore (too expensive). I could try and find it and type the list out to give you an idea about what you should buy.

I really hate weight watchers by the way since they keep changing their programs due to "more research" and whenever they do that I always struggle to adjust to the change and I gain as a result. Seriously, if an eating plan ain't broke for me, don't fix it. Plus you can do all of that for free if you know what you are doing.

I did weight watchers for a minute as well but just for the calorie counting aspect of it since a lot of their meal plans (at the time) required more time to put into cooking than I had. I found other free alternatives for the calorie counting since you’re right they’re too expensive.
If you could find that list, I would super appreciate it! If you can’t though I appreciate the offer regardless.

Also thanks to everyone for your advice, I greatly appreciate it!

Shoot, I can't find it, I do remember it consisted of most fruits, most vegetables (no avocado, that was two points IIRC) as long as they weren't blended or juice, oatmeal, turkey and chicken, some fish (I don't remember the kinds, I know salmon cost a couple points, but nothing too high), potatoes, plain yogurt, and beans.

edit: weren't juice or blended, not were juice or blended

Also, there is these vegetable frittata cups at Costco right now that are like 70 calories each that I have been eating if I need a quick breakfast. I eat two or three of them with some fresh fruit when I am in a hurry.

Also, I mentioned this in the first page, but frozen fruit is an amazing ice cream substitute. If my bananas are starting to get a few small brown spots, I cut them up and freeze them in a container. I also like frozen grapes and blueberries.

Another thing, I am more focusing on inches and how my clothes fit rather than pounds since I tend to be really obsessive with the scale, the only time I really weigh myself with when I am at the psychiatrist's office every 1-2 months. Not to powerlevel too much, but between losing the genetic lottery and shit happening causing me ending up on heavier psych meds yeah...

I do know although it will be a bit harder, there is a lot of things I can control and eating better will ultimately improve your mental health, which I am now just starting to realize.

Public service announcement for anyone considering a weight loss program: MyFitnessPal is free and does the exact same thing the program does. Counting calories is easy when your phone does it, Oprah and the Hambeast Convention can get fucked. The Internet made their overpriced glorified CICO bullshit free and they rely on stupid women (and a couple stupid men) who don't realize that to make their money.

After my post last week I found an app called Lose It! that's fairly bare bones on the free version, but doesn't pester you TOO terribly much about the paid version aside from keeping the locked features on the menu. It has a good database to easily pull up stuff, even by brand name, and remembers your previous foods/meals to just jam them in there again if you eat the same stuff.

Just simply bothering to track myself on how much I eat, even if I'm not fully into the WHAT I eat stage, has been a huge help. It put me on a 2,300 calorie daily goal for fastest weight loss but I've managed to stick under 2,000 every day so far. The struggle is getting less and it feels better waiting to eat until my stomach is getting louder than my surroundings instead of constant grazing. I estimate from comparisons with keeping track that I was likely shoveling 3-4,000 in my face most days.

No real loss so far, but it's only been a week and I know the drill, so simply the fact the number is no longer going up is enough for me right now. Thanks for the shaming, btw. I got a bit ass mad about it (even though I flat out asked for it) and it definitely helped. Damn we need to bring back shaming. It really does help motivate you to do better.

+1 for Loose It. I find the bare bones works just fine (although personally feel it pesters a bit much) I like the barcode scanner too.

Any one have loose skin tips? I basically lost 20kgs of fat in a year, I rushed so now I am cursed with loose skin. I take collagen daily, but I am not seeing a lot of results.

Standing upright you can't really tell, but the second I bend over it's like there is a plastic bag of water strapped to my mid section.

I just want to be able to see my abs, you can see a faint outline through the skin, but it's still too loose to show any of my muscle I've worked so hard to achieve.

I lost 150 pounds in a year (been maintaining for 4) but sadly loose skin comes with it, especially after 25.
It used to bother me pretty badly, but now I could care less what people think. I workout every day while a lot of people that make comments about it are borderline death fats.

I don't know why I am so afraid of weighing myself. I have stuck to this current food plan for a couple weeks after slowly building myself up to it over the past month and based on my calculation ate about 1500-1600 calories on average. I shouldn't be this scared if I did everything right. What has motivated me to stick to this plan right now is noticing how much better I feel, I am at the point where if I eat anything sugary, salty, or greasy, even as a once a month treat, I feel awful afterwards unless they are in super small quantities.

Another goal I am trying to do is get my HDL "good cholesterol" levels higher since last blood test I had the doctor said they were low (My LDLs aka "bad cholesterol" was fine, though it wouldn't hurt to be a little lower. Blood sugar was also fine luckily, but then again, I never was a pop drinker and my vices tended to veer toward savory foods rather than sweet). I know some good foods to eat are avocado, olive oil, and salmon which I have been eating and cooking with (obviously trying not to overboard with the avocados since they are a bit calorie dense compared to most fruits/veg even though they have high nutritional value).

Is there anything else to add to my diet that will help improve my HDL levels? I also know exercise can also help and I plan on incorporating it more especially since I am starting to get used to this new eating plan, but anything more I can do? I want to impress my doctor my next physical with my next blood test and weigh in that I am actually taking steps to get healthier and listening rather than sticking my head in the sand and making excuses.
