Watched an interesting video on obesity. It talks about some causes other than too much food/too little exercise.

One of the most interesting parts about that is the last part, about fecal transplants.

It's astonishing how much actually seems to be linked to our gut microbiome. Differences in microbiota have been linked to all kinds of disorders, including obesity as they mention and C. diff infections for which a fecal transplant is one of the only effective treatments, to inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. Crohn's or ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome, and even mental disorders like ADHD, OCD, and autism. Maybe similar microbial compositions of Barb and Chris led to their respective colitis and atsimu problems. Clostridium hystolyticum is found in higher levels in both individuals with UC and with autism, for example (B. Kleessen et al 2002 and H. Parracho et al 2005, respectively)!
Have I ever mentioned I'm completely in love with you, Hellbound?

I've heard that before. Fascinating stuff. I'm sure Barb is eating a bunch of bleached crap that's killing off her gut flora :/ One more reason to eat whole wheat/grain, people.

I also found this cool thing. It could probably help people plan their day.

Ok, so I am down to 197. The pounds are getting harder to come off, but I expected that and most of that weight was from diet alone. This week I started running about about a mile and a quarter, i timed myself yesterday and ran it in about 15 minutes. I picked it up today and did it in under 13. I am going to keep picking it up until I can get it consistently under ten and then increase the distance.

Remember that the weight you're having trouble losing may just be fat weight you're replacing with muscle weight. ;)

Well, my plans of keeping a steady diet just went to shit.

1. It's impossible to diet in this house
2. Surprise depression
3. Bullshit everywhere (which comes back to depression)

I am, however, maintaining an exercise schedule, staying hygienic, and trying to hammer a sleep schedule into place. The diet's a major role in it, though, so it's a little upsetting to me that I can't seem to keep up with it. I also noticed I've gone back to muttering quietly in conversation recently as well as going back to being a reserved, quiet individual. As in I can no longer even fake enthusiasm anymore. I guess that doesn't really have much of an impact on weight loss since it's a mental thing, but I was enjoying being able to answer things in class and remind people that they have something to do or take off in the middle of a conversation. I guess I just need to cool down for a bit...

I haven't exercised since Monday. I usually go to the gym two days a week, Monday and Wednesday, because I lift weights those days, but I also want to go Friday because that would mean I'm lifting weights three times a week. On days I don't go to the gym I use the exercise bike in the basement.

I've just been incredibly lazy this week about exercising. Part of it is that I have a mild cold, but it's not that bad.

I hope I do a lot better next week.

Keep training, eating your vitamins and saying your prayers, everyone :hulkster:

Probably one of the best things you can do is keep exercising. Henry Rollins once said "the Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found" and in my experience (and according to a sizeable body of research), he's right. Lifting weights helps balance your hormones and neurotransmitters which is critical for mental well-being.

Trying to set up a regular hiking schedule. I feel blessed, there are so many beautiful places to do that around here. I'll post pictures that I took of the ice caverns I hiked to yesterday when I get them. :asperchu: I'd like to go to the coast or another national park soon.

Tightening up my leg muscles by trying to walk faster than everyone else around me. I'm a leisurely walker normally, but some competitive spirit never hurt anyone. Sometimes it ends up in outright running, but I won't be beaten. :x

I used to hike all the time when we still owned a ranch. Can't do that anymore because all the land here is owned and I don't want to get shot or arrested for trying to hike.

I am so happy, today I put on my costume from last year and realized that it was form fitting to my body. I realized that if I hadn't lost my recent amount of weight I would have never gotten into it.

Yes, I found out yesterday at the gym that I lost three more pounds. Bringing my weight loss to twenty-two pounds in total.

Hi~ Congrats on everyone's weight loss.

So, all together over the last couple of years I've lost 60lbs, but I've come to a screeching halt since I moved from the healthy food city of Seattle to down here in the deep friend south midwest. I'm starting up roller derby training with a friend, so hopefully I'll start shedding off the pounds again.
