Weight loss support thread

I'm trying to cut back on soft drinks, with the exception of diet and the odd ice tea, drink more water and eat less bread. At the moment, I've lost 10 pounds. People around me keep commenting on how much skinnier I look, but I doubt 10 pounds is all that much.

Are you kidding? 10 pounds is amazing! Sounds like its working, so keep going!

My mom was a dietician so I know a lot of this stuff. If you guys have any questions, let me know!

Assuming you aren't already super-skinny or super-fat, 10 lbs is probably between 3-6% of your total weight, and probably 10-50% of the weight you want to lose.

I was at 250, but only overweight according to the waist to height ratio. What can I say, I'm built like a football player (I was asked to join the team my first day after changing high schools). I'm trying to reach 220-30. Was aiming for 210, but I thought that may be excessive and could do some real damage.

BMI has always stated I am obese, so it's given me a bit of a self-image issue.

consult a doctor if youre concerned, but assuming you are of average height, shoot for the stars! go for 190 or less!

You won't be too skinny at 210, unless you're extremely tall. Lean body mass caps out at about a BMI of 25 without steroids: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/re...abolic-androgen-steroids-research-review.html

It's best not to set a specific number for your target weight. Go by body composition instead.

I don't know my weight, but yesterday I went bra shopping and I found out that I went from a DD to D. Today I measured myself and my waist went from 44" to 43" and my but and thighs from 50" to 49 1/2"

That is only in around two weeks. I don't know if that is good or bad.

I am not sure that would be a wise idea because you can hurt yourself if you are too distracted by something and slip, or get off the tread. It has happened to me a few times.

So if you do it, please be careful.
I nearly forgot about this. If I do go with that plan, I'm keeping it realistic like snail's pace. I just need an excuse to play vidya and move aoround because as it turns out, standing is not exercise. Dammit, Chris.

One of the biggest things I've found that's helped me loose weight is simply putting any snackies I may have in the cupboard. Out of sight out of mind. Before if I bought a box of cookies or something I'd leave it on the counter where I could see them and have one everytime I walk by. Before you know it BAM! Almost an entire box gone in a day. Now I put it away and I've found myself eating less.

I just got back from the psychologist office. I have gone from 238 to 223. That is 15 pounds!

My starting weight was 253 so that is exactly 30 pounds in weight loss.

My next check-up is November 26 and I am making it a mission to get under 200 by then.

Wish me luck!

So... I use a program called "FatSecret", I enter the food I eat and track my exercise, mostly just working out the calories in and calories out. Anyone else use this?

Things were much easier when I worked for Trader Joe's -I was younger, eating healthier food with my employee discount, constantly moving, and lifting heavy shit. Best shape of my life.

Well, anything to keep track of how much you eat and exercise is good. We are often unaware of how much we eat and then complain that we just have slow metabolisms when in truth we are just eating more than we can burn.

So anything that makes you aware of this will do.

I started to diet and recently bought a mountain bike to exercise with. I've been eating around ~1500 calories daily and go on 2 hour bike rides every other day. I'm hopping I lose 40 by the end of the year and get down to 200lbs eventually. I don't have a thyroid problem or anything but even when I do good at trying to get into shape I still seem to have trouble loosing weight.

I have meet a goal of mine! Originally my waist was 43 in and I had a goal to get it under 40! Now it is 39 1/2 in! So I meet my first goal! My next goal is to get to 35 in!

My hips started at 50 in, but now they are 48 1/2! My first goal for my hips is 45! I am pear shape and my but and thighs are the last places that I lose weight on. But I am trying! I am now challenging myself to do 100 squats a day for smaller thighs.

As for my bust I am not sure. I don't know how to measure that and I don't personally care about how big or small they are. But I am trying to get them down to a C or B.

I've been more depressed than usual lately, so that automatically means more binge eating.

I know that I have posted in the FA thread, though now I tend to just avoid it but I have been wanting to get fit and get in shape. I joined a gym a few months back but I couldn't afford it, so we worked out a new contract there where I can go for a year with no additional costs so I want to take advantage of some of the classes there. They have Zumba but it's at 7:45 at night and I don't want to be all hyped up so that I can't sleep. I plan on going to the strength and stretch classes as well as the yoga and pilates classes.

The one thing that is hard is diet. My food stamps have been cut from $189 to just $83/month so I have very limited choices in buying food so I have to buy the crappy, processed foods because they are cheaper. Unless I am totally clueless about buying inexpensive but healthy foods.

I got some exercise tips from the trainers at the gym but I want to know more strength exercises for the arms, back, butt, legs and abdomen. I am also planning on joining a tae kwan do class since the guy is offering me $40 a month and it's two times a week, well more if I go on Saturday and Sundays but those are in the morning and I am not a morning person no matter how many times I try to change that.

So far, I have gone from 195lbs to 181lbs in the past couple of months, probably because I cut back on eating and am not eating as much as I did. I don't count calories because I don't want to become obsessive about it but I try to snack on things like cashews and fruit (canned, I can't afford fresh fruits and vegetables so I have to make do with what I have.) and occasionally I will eat cookies or something sweet but I am trying to cut back on sugary foods (hard to do when just about every damn thing has HFCS in it and those are the only foods I can afford.) as I have pre-diabetes and high blood cholesterol, which my doctor has admitted could be caused by the medications that I am on. I also want to be in shape so that I can donate plasma.

So I guess I will check in on here to get tips or whatever but I do want to focus on being fit rather than losing weight too much because I am the kind of person that could fall into the trap that is eating disorders.

I've heard that acquiring good quality protein is difficult when living off of food stamps/WIC/etc. But when I was a vegetarian I found that beans, peas, and lentils are a reliable and cheap source of lean protein. Go for the dried kinds, in bulk if you can. Eggs and peanut butter are good for protein as well. As for produce, frozen fruits and veggies are good, since they last longer than fresh and are cheaper as well. Or if the produce is cheap and in season buy those and freeze them for later.

24 hour fast and quitting soda again. Harass me if I fuck up.

I don't drink actual soda much anymore, so therefore I find it too sweet. However, I have been drinking ICE sparkling waters. They are like soda since they are carbonated and sweetly flavored, but they are sugar free. They do have artificial sweeteners, colors, and preservatives, however.

Flavoring carbonated water with mint leaves or fruit is another, healthier option in place of soda. But I have not progressed to that point yet. :(

I have been trying to lose weight mainly by walking because it is causes the least stress to my hip. My hip constantly becomes displaced from an old injury and I have to go to a chiropractor in order to get it put back to normal. Cutting out soda has also helped my weight issues I have stopped gaining weight, but as much as I love soda it has become something I have had to give up.

Due to my lack of running this year I've gone from 165 lbs. a few months ago to 175 when I looked last week, I don't check all that often to be honest.

I'd like to do it religiously like I did in 2013, but it's going to start getting darker earlier now...
