Weight loss support thread

What is the best fat burning exercise?
To best burn fat you also should have carbs available. Your pulse plays an important role, between 55-75% of your maximum the ratio between fat and carbs is the highest. But at higher pulses you will deplete your energy much faster - so you actually burn more in the long run.
Perhaps something to meassure your pulse could be a good investion. Some powerlevel: I got terrible headaches from running, but then started checking my pulse so I realised that I overexerted myself and ran to much in the unhealthy high regions.
The human body is actually build for endurance. One of the earliest hunting technics (still in use today) was to run after your prey in the burning midday sun till it dropped dead to the ground. Antilopes and stuff might be much faster than humans, but if you don't give it enough time to rest it will die. I think that's actually quite awesome.

But losing fat is mostly an question of getting fewer calories into your system than you burn. Don't go under your Basal Metabolic Rate because than your body will go into energy saving mode and use food much more efficiently. Stay beyond your physical activity level and you'll save calories.
Thing is, your basal rate is fixed. It will sink with time as you lose weight, because you'll also lose cells that required fuel; but that takes time (plus your fat cells can take months to be removed, because your body likes to keep them around, just in case there comes new fat it could storage - on the other hand muscle cells need more energy that fat cells, so that's a factor too).
So, when your bottom limit ist fixed, you can say, that your total calorie need is basically the diference between these two rates - and if you want to maximise this difference you can only actively change your physical activity limit by burning energy.
A kilo of fat has around 7000 calories and that is the amount of calories you have to save to lose it.

I'm in total favour of refeed days, because of several reasons.
- You basically tell your body "Famine, what famine? There is no famine!" and help it not to switch into hunger-mode. That is also important, because you'll not be "punished" as much when you commit a sin; because your body doesn't care that much then.
- You can boast your motivation. If you are never allowed to eat that yummie stuff, your cravings will become unbearable. But when you know e.g. "I can eat that on Saturday!" to stay firm will be much easier.
- Weight gain might be faster than loss but it stil is a gradual process. If you didn't fuck up your body beyond sanity by deliberately becoming a landleviathan, there is actually a limit how much your body will keep before expelling it. So you can't fuck up your weight to much when you limit your refeed-day to once a week even if you don't set a calorie-limit. (And you'll notice if you ate too much because your stomach will hurt. If you don't want that - eat less. (But overeating on refeed day on the other hand makes the follow-up day so much easier...))
- If you diet every day and stay firm because you always think of the bad stuff that will happen when you eat, you will take down a dangerous path that could end in a disorder. If you remind yourself of your love for food from time to time you'll remain at a heathier attitude. You don't diet because you hate food, but because you want to become a healthier person.
- Eating is a social activity. If you meet with other guys and never partake in any because your budget doesn't allow it, your social live will suffer. The other will be (subconsciously) annoyed with you and you will be burdened with seduction by their delicious food. So do yourself a favour and don't be a constant social outcast and do your refeed-day on this occasions.

- Your hunger is not directly related to the calorie intake. Is much more related to portion size. One of the reasons to eat many vegetables is that most of them have a low calorie density. If you feal hungry to often although eating enough to satisfy your basic metabolism rate, then you should decrease your calorie density. This is easiest done by adding water into your food (basically - eat more soup and stuff thats mostly made out of water(vegetables, salad, fruit) but it won't work by drinking more during your meals, because your brain does not associate that with eating. (A bummer.) Chewing is important, too.

- Some people claim that people tend to confuse thirst for hunger - but to be honest that won't happen - if you actually pay a little bit attention to your own body. Thirst and hunger are two different feelings and you can differentiate between them.

- You'd might want to kick carbs out of your diet, but these are of a lower density than fat - which means you eat less to get the same calorie-amount.
(You can actually STARVE if only subsiding on proteins, even if you ate enough calorie-wise.)

- The biggest challenges to a successful diet are stress and not enough sleep. Both makes you want to eat more to have more energy. If you want to successfully diet it might be the easiest way to simply look for the easiest way. You can change to healthier food-choices after your lost enough; you can even wait with starting more sport till your thinner - at least you'd go easy on your joints. And starting with you calories is not a bad idea, because they actually affect your weight much more than sports. It's laughably easy to add 300 kalories to your budget (by eating around 50 g of chips), but to counter that with sports takes a much higher efford and time investment. You'll never lose weight by sporting alone if you don't dedicate your whole life around it. But by counting calories you can, even if you are a total couch potato.
Just reducing your calories might not be the thing you actually want to do - but turning your life a 180° around is not easy hard impossible - exspecially if you only change your health habits and nothing else. Do yourself a favour and start with something easy that you actually can manage for months or years, instead of doing it "the best way" and throw in the towel the moment the first outside thing stresses you.

-You want to loose your weight slowly. This is much easier for your body to handle; your skin won't do funny things and your metabolism has actually time to attune to your new weight. If you loose your weight to fast, then your body could regain even faster. Ideally is at least double the time to lose the weight you needed to gain it...

- Your brain needs carbs to work it's best. You could try to establish a ketosis by leaving carbs completely out, but you'll be not as mentally fit. And your breath will stink.

- Insulin-resistence depends on your body-weight. If you are fat your body can deal worse with insulin than a thinner person (on the average). This means a thinner person can deal better with a high carbs-amount. So if you weight to much you might not eliminate your fats altogether just to be able to eat more carbs. Ideally you eat everything - at least try to refill on your refeed-day.

- And the last thing: Someone mentioned comfort-eating - I'd like to add a second reason you might eat too much: Boredom. If you have nothing too do, it's easy to grab for a snack. Keep yourself busy.
Because staying firm is not necessarily a question of will or bullshit like that. It's much more related to the ability to keep something out of your mind. If you are desperately waiting for something to happen it will be hard and you might give in. If you don't wait at all (because you do different stuff) the spoils won't be less sweet.

Had my picture taken at work, I never noticed how losing even just 35 pounds can change how a person looks

I know you guys can't see much because of the jacket. But even though, I'm quite proud of myself. Not Lena Dunham proud (disgusting) but just proud.

Recently I decided to get off my ass and start working out, and thankfully I've now organised with a friend to go running 3 times a week. We're also looking into some gym membership, although as a guy who has never stepped into a gym in his life I have no idea where to start once the said membership is acquired. I'm not too concerned about building muscle until I lose a bit of weight, so what routines/machines would be good for that?

What are the best exercises to get your thighs thin? Mine have always been a little thick and take their time to slim down whenever i exercise.

Going on a supervised diet, and 20-30 minutes of swimming each evening... I managed to lose about 11 pounds in the last month.

They say "You know, swimming is the best form of exercise" (thank you Dogbert). So I chose that.

You can't spot treat body fat regardless of what pop-up ads and Cosmo might tell you; your body decides where your fat deposits are going to go and there's nothing you can do about it besides liposuction. Muscle gains can help tone your thighs but won't reduce thickness, only overall reduction of body fat will do that.

Developed a compulsive eating and binge drinking problem when I started college six years ago. Finally kicked both habits this year and started working out regularly.

I have a long, long way to go but so far I feel great. I've lost about ten pounds this past month and a half. Yay!

*sigh* I went from binge eating to hating a full stomach. Now I can't eat a normal meal because being full feels awful for some reason.
From one eating disorder to the next. At least I lose weight now but I don't know if I can stop once I reach a healthy weight.

Count calories. If you feel like you can't eat portions that are big enough, then try to incoporate more stuff with a high calorie count into your diet. Nuts for example are very healthy and calorie dense. In the end your weight entirely depends on the in- and output. When you want to keep your weight, make sure you eat as much as you burn.
To help with you eating problem, you could try a refeed day. One day off once in a while really helps not to become too obsessed and frustrated with your diet.

Has anybody here ever tried any of those over-the-counter weight loss supplements? If so, what was your experience like? Did they work?

I'm not overweight, but earlier this year I had a serious illness that kept me laid up in bed for a very long time (I was still able to get on here via my phone). I've since recovered from that, but because of this sudden lack of activity, I ended up putting on a few pounds. I've always had a fairly high metabolism, so have never really needed to actually put effort into keeping fit. So I'm having a really hard time getting back to a weight that I'm happy with. Again, I'm not overweight, and when I mention trying to lose weight to other people they always tell me I don't need to. But it's one of those cases where you've got this relatively minor blemish that nobody else really notices, but it drives you crazy because you notice, y'know?

I only wanna lose about 20 pounds, so that's why I don't take the obvious route of "exercise." Are supplements good for that?

I had a really bad experience with a diet pill (it made me start shaking for no reason) and I'll never touch another one again, I don't care how natural the label says it is... Even if you're only trying to lose around 20 pounds, diet and exercise is still the way to go. It won't be as hard as you might think.

On a personal note, I've backslid pretty hard with my diet recently because I'm stressed the fuck out (losing a job will do that to you) but because I've been sick on and off for like two months I've still been losing weight. So I guess that's a win..? I'm finding more and more pieces of clothing that don't fit anymore. Just this past weekend I noticed how big my pajama pants are now... My mom got them for me before my surgery a couple of years ago, when I was at my biggest (size 22), and they look enormous on me now (size 16, almost down to 14).

It's mostly scientifically unproven BS targeted towards the gullible populace with a rapidly expanding waistline, especially if the supplements contain random plant (or animal) extracts. Some supplements contain caffeine which can induce weight loss through a reduction of appetite and increased physical activity, but you can just, well, drink unsweetened coffee or something, which is a lot cheaper. Something else that's effective is ephedrine, and in fact that used to be combined with caffeine to form a potent weight loss mix, however its legality currently is questionable. You can also use DNP (dinitrophenol), which is extremely effective, but that's not sold commercially as a supplement and can literally kill you by causing you to overheat if you take a bit too much.

To conclude, there is a small possibility that a supplement can somehow induces weight loss without consciously dieting or exercising, however the chances are extremely small and I don't think it's worth the money. The good news is, 20 pounds is nothing and would only take you around 3-4 months to lose completely with adjustments to what you eat and some exercise, maybe even less if you cut calories more drastically.

This sounds lame as shit but I found a water bottle shaped like a can like this

qh3Gp22.png

and for some reason it makes the transition from energy drinks to water when I'm working way easier because the hole to drink from is a similar shape so I can just gulp down a ton of water without thinking about sucking on those plastic straws or not spilling out of a larger water bottle.

This and chewing gum and a few whole natural unsalted almonds are my workarounds for cravings when I'm dieting.

It's been a hot minute since I've last checked in, so here ya go...

  • My weight has only really gone down about 10-15 lbs since I've started running. However, I have dropped a couple pants sizes and my skinny jeans fit appropriately again.
  • I finished another 5k last weekend at a new PR (33:52) with the help of a Stinger waffle, a beet juice/water/beta alanine/taurine cocktail, and the Alternative Endurance station on Pandora.
  • Got a Fitbit Charge HR and using that to track my calorie intake/burn and my heart rate. It'd be nice if I could wear it swimming instead of manually entering it afterwards, but the rest of the time it's a good tool.
  • I joined the local Y and am considering joining LA Fitness when there's a good promo price (probably around New Year's Day).
  • Kind of kicking around the idea of getting a PiYo instructor certification and personal trainer certification.

I went out shopping earlier this afternoon because I needed new dress pants, and I found out I went down from a size 6 to a size 4! All thanks to those morning walks and my edamame addiction.

Here's some advice passed on from my mom: X pounds of fat can make a huge difference depending on your height and body proportions. For example, I'm petite (5'3") and currently weigh 116 pounds. I have the dreaded "saddlebag" thighs (which unfortunately run in my mother's side of the family), but they've gradually become less noticeable since I started exercising in April. I'm also working on toning my stomach a bit by doing crunches and the like. All of the comments about my weight loss and the mall trip from today have been quite the confidence boosters!

I haven't posted here in forever, so a little update:

I'm still hovering between size 14 and 16 but I'm noticing that I'm getting a little more toned. A lot of things are so much easier now; I work pretty much every floor set because I can throw our plus-sized, solid plaster mannequins around like they're nothing while everyone else struggles with the bust forms. I still only manage to hit the gym maybe twice a week, though, so I'm considering just buying out my membership (which would be about $150) and getting a kettle bell so I can do my core exercises at home. Honestly, I thought paying for it would motivate me to go more often but I don't have time anymore unless it's my day off.

Still finding more and more pieces of clothing that no longer fit. I've only got a handful of things that do, now. On the one hand, it sucks because my wardrobe is really limited and that's bad for my job, but on the other, it's great because I know I'm still losing.

My heaviest has been 210 pounds at 5'7" (a size 16 and I'd been a size 14 since I was in high school, so I got pretty motivated when I had to buy myself pants in a 16). Before it got way too hot, I did Couch to 5k over the summer along with just walking a lot. I managed to lose 20 pounds because of this and have kept it off. I don't really have time to overeat and I'm on my feet all day.

Today, I finally got off my lazy ass and now belong to a gym. I'm taking it easy to start off with just so I get accustomed to exercising in the same space as other people and get familiar with using gym equipment. I might see if I can talk someone into getting me a fitbit for Christmas, but I might just use my gift money to get one.

I do have a check-up in January, so I'm probably going to ask my doctor about weight loss

I've noticed that I'm not visibly losing weight at the moment, and I'm still hovering between a 14 and a 16, but I definitely have a lot of muscle building under all this flab. Hopefully soon I'll actually be losing an inch or two...

Also, I can carry a ten-foot ladder by myself now. Which I couldn't do six months ago, so I'm proud I've managed to get there... I went from being just barely able to bend at the waist cos of my back, to being able to haul around this heavy-ass ladder with no assistance, having no trouble with our 80-pound mannequins, and carrying 50-pound boxes of clothes with one arm.

I feel like I don't look it, but I know I've come a long way.

Until I was 28 (6 years ago) I was just like most of you although without the hatred of women, normies, Chads, cucks, etc, but in day to day life I was 100% incel: very few friends, dead end job, no GF ever, not even close, only kiss was in a spin the bottle game when I was 15 and nothing else, no holding hands, no kiss, no sex except with prostitutes, played tons of videogames, movies, metal, atheist, the whole package (no anime for some reason, was never into it).

I was really fat, my bathroom scale ended at 270 lbs and I was a little over that, not sure how much but no much, had really bad acne, in particular in my back, very hairy all over, awful crooked, yellow teeth, below average dick (or so I though at the time).

Anyway, I had been chatting with a girl a work for about 5 months over the internal work chat, about movies, news, whatever so I believed I had a chance, she never mentioned a BF but at an end of the year party I found out she was actually living with her never mentioned BF, this broke my heart but at the same time made me said "fuck this, I'm doing anything and everything I have to to get a GF, starting right now".

So first I had my teeth fixed, it took a couple of months and like 7 painful dentist appointments, then I had a whitening procedure, since I had to pay once and could do it again for free if I wasn't happy with it I had it done 3 times, it was terrible but my teeth end up sort of OK.

After that it was dermatologist time, at first they gave me creams that did nothing, then antibiotics but didn't work either so they gave me Roaccutane for 8 months, it was a pain in the ass, it dries up your skin and lips and messes up your vision at night, but I went through with it and finally my acne cleared, and my dandruff too as a welcomed side effect.

Then to the nutricionist, I wanted a really tough one that would put me in a crash diet or something but I couldn't find one, went to three different ones and decided to do it on my own, so I read online about calory counting and went nuts with it, never eating over 1000 calories per day for a year, except for birthdays and holidays and stuff like that, after that I got to 183 lbs.

Had to spent a fortune on clothing because nothing I had fitted me anymore, so I make sure to buy the right clothes, also got a new haircut.

So after about a year of very hard work I though I was ready, so I started online dating, it was surpringly easy to start chatting with girls, I guess all those years neck deep in pop culture and reading about history and news and the world and whatever I found to be interesting prepared me pretty well for holding conversations and making girls laugh, I even flat out stole jokes from stuff like Seinfeld that I knew they wouldn;t recognized and used it as my own material.

My first was this 35 year old enologist, cute but about 25 lbs overweight, after 3 or 4 nightly chats with we agree on a date, we went to dinner and to her place afterwards.

This was my non-prostitute first time and it was quite an experience, as soon as we got into her bedroom she just launched over me, groping my dick and putting her tongue in my mouth, she said she couldn't get enough of my dick and how great it was, she licked my balls, asshole, swallow a huge load of cum, then had anal sex, came inside her, took a shower together, got to hear her cumfarting, it was awesome. Prostitutes are very distant and indiferent, this was something completely different, but the prostitutes did give me some valuable experience on how to go about it.

She was too old to be a GF but I loved the experience, after 3 or 4 fucks I've told her I was looking for something else and ended it in nice terms, so next time I was more selective.

I found a pretty hot 23 year old girl online who worked at a clothing store at a mall and it went pretty much the same as before, as soon as we closed the bedroom door she transformed from a delicate flower into a sexual maniac, apparently a lot of girls do this, this girl even asked me to pee in her mouth.

So I wanted more, in a period of around a year I had sex with 14 different girls, multiple times with most of them, got to experience stuff that I've only seen in porn, girls went nuts over me, one gave me a blowjob in her car, one on the street, one at the movies, fucked girls in public bathrooms, had them sent me nudes, or pictures doing porn stuff with fruits and stuff, I recorded video with some of the girls, pretty much anything I could think off I could get them to do, I had girls lick my cum of the floor, I watched girls masturbating over skype while watching my dick, had girls crawl around the room in all fours and them lick my balls.

Eventually all this became a little being there done that so after like 2 years as a Chad I found the perfect girl to settle down with, we are married now and had a 2 month son.

Take whatever you want from this story, not here to preach, just to tell you how someone who was just like you went from that to Chad to normie with a wife and a family, my life is pretty much perfect now and I couldn't been happier that I took a year of super hard work to make it happen, it wasn't easy.

But the whole time in my mind was the notion that we only live once and I'm not going to miss what this life has to offer.

feel free to AMA if you like
