Weight loss support thread

I'm not overweight yet, but I know my shitty eating habits will get me there in my 30s haha.

Anyways, does anyone have suggestions for sports (team or solo) that don't put much stress on your knees? I had double knee surgery when I was a kid and it really fucked them up, but I really like the idea of joining a neighborhood sports club.

@Internet War Criminal or anyone else,

Is there a specific brand of multi you'd recommend for general health?

As in vitamin? Those things are a shitty idea in the first place, they're looking for yield when they extract it and there are often various forms of whatever vitamin/minerals you're after. The likelihood is fairly high that it won't be in a form that's particularly useful to your body, general rule of thumb you're much better off getting any nutrition from food. Not to say that there aren't exceptions but that's mostly if say your diet leaves you short on certain things [a source is better than none], or increasing your protein intake [can be prohibitively expensive via food] etc.

If suggest a balanced diet because those are usually filled with 90% crap and there is close to zero quality controls.

No better source of vitamins, proteins and iron than from fruits, vegetable and meat

Agreed. Unless you have a documented vitamin deficiency that can't be fulfilled through your diet alone, you're best off focusing on maintaining a nutritious and balanced diet.

Reactions: Hi I Am From Page 6
Thanks for sharing your stories and progress guys! It makes me feel really confident about the goals ahead of me.

I'm around 138 kgs/304 lbs at 6"0 (181cm) with dress size at 18/20. I used to be a size 12/14 some years ago but I stacked on the weight when I was thrown into depression and long term relationship. I'm not Slation Sister Size™ but I could very well be on the track to it. Just recently got my ass into gear with eating healthy and exercise. I got sucked into that mindset of "uwu you're beautiful no matter what" but I knew I was lying to myself. And fuck the fat acceptance because I feel that just further enabled my unhealthy eating. My health has been deteriorating because of my laziness and I think having a few slight health scares and high cholesterol have kinda made me go, "yeah.... nah" and here I am.

Funnily enough, my recent dietary changes and monitoring have made my parents a little more conscious of their habits too, which is really nice.

So here's a question that would really help me out. How the hell do I get into eating vegs and salads without gagging on an asparagus or getting sick midway?

I know it's a transition thing, but is there a way to make it a bit more appealing and not like I'm going herbivore? This beer gut's gotta go.

@DuskEngine You lost me at cumfarting, sorry.

Try adding some meats to your salads, like chicken or some lean red meats. I have to have a dressing on my salads because the leafy taste of lettuces beyond iceberg make me feel sick. Also don't eat anything you feel you can't get into, I can't eat tomato in salad so I just substitute it with red capsicum or something.

Bang on the money with this, often people don't see a halfway point with eating something like salad, and try to get too healthy with it. If you don't enjoy what you're eating you aren't going to keep it up regardless of how 'healthy' it may be. I use the leeway gained by eating salad to throw in a sauce/dressing I like and typically would add some meat/fish. I would look at it as trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle rather than losing weight, fit people don't stay that way by dieting, they do it by eating healthier in general. Trimming out some of the rubbish is the goal as opposed to being utterly perfect, personally I try to follow 80/20 as in 80% good food & 20% crap. Diet wise meat is actually a pretty good choice as protein takes a considerable amount of energy for your body to break down & make use of.

Generally speaking you want to cut out as much highly processed food as possible, refined carbs & sugar are what really screw you as far as weight is concerned. What you really need is quick, easy and tasty dishes that suit you, I for example pre-cook and weigh out my meat so I can just grab out a portion and defrost it, little waiting & no hassle. A quick example of mine is, throw in a can of tomatoes, some meat, add some water. whatever herbs/spices/sauces I feel like & veggies that I have lying around. With the pre-cooked meat it literally takes 2 minutes to throw together and is ready as soon as it's hot, I can then do other things while I leave it to slow-cook.

Goodbye size 4, hello size 2! (Depends on the retailer and how the pants fit, but it's still a milestone!)

Once again: All just by walking 30-40 minutes 2-3 times a week, and watching what I eat.

That's awesome! I think I was in like the 6th grade when I was a size 2... Once I hit puberty, though, any hope of me ever being that small again vanished. I'm too tall, I'd be a walking stick figure, lol.

The other day, I had a lot of time to kill before I went into work for floor set, so I parked my car at the mall and did something I haven't done in years: I walked to the book store. It's two or so miles one way, which isn't far, but considering that even a year ago that distance would've had me limping, I felt good about it. I just walked around and window-shopped at the outdoor mall, and then I walked back to the indoor mall.

It was cold as shit, though, so my joints were crying a little bit at the end. Still, no regrets.

Have you people noticed any changes in your social life when you lost weight?
Also any decent diet plans?
I don't know really how to cook but my college has a buffet lunch and dinner for only .50 cents so there's plenty of choice there.

As far as the social life goes it really depends on you as a person, I have been at all 3 ends of the spectrum [fairly obese, average & currently buff] and I can honestly say, that I get significantly more attention now. However people are not going to worship the ground you walk on, it makes things easier sure but it's not radically different, you will need to put in work if you want a massive change.

A diet plan is really the wrong way to think about things, if you want to maintain a healthier weight your diet needs to be built to support that, the diet needs to suit you or you aren't going to stick with it so it's more about adjusting your diet around the things you like, than following a set plan. That mostly means filling up on vegetables, meat & fruit as well as attempting to cut out refined sugar and highly processed foods mostly. Throw in some regular exercise and you pretty much can't go wrong.

Am cutting right now, lost just over 5kgs since I started just over a month ago. This isn't my first time cutting so I'm used to it, but this time I'd like to actually maintain my figure without fucking it up again. Trying to find a reason to leave the house every day, but since I only have classes one day a week I try to find a reason to walk somewhere, but options are limited if you don't live somewhere scenic.

I linked my FitBit to MyFitnessPal because you can set MFP to use the expected calorie burn from the FitBit to adjust the daily goal. That way I don't have to add exercise manually for when I go on long walks, which is pretty convenient and more accurate considering the exercise calorie burn estimates on MFP are kinda rough.

At the end of it all I would like to get into 32" jeans again.

I was doing a good job with this whole not eating because i'm gonna look like Tess holiday in 2 months thing but then something upsetting happened at work and I've been fighting emotional eating ever since.

I don't recommend using vomiting/bulimia as a weight loss method but if you're like me and are constantly sick in winter a stomach bug will work wonders

it's been a month since I got totally better but the resulting loss of appetite has been the gift that keeps on giving... meaning I eat like a normal person now instead of a vacuum. Going to the gym almost every day is probably helping too I guess
