Wendigoon Thread

Really liked the Ted vid. There was something that never fully sat right with me about Ted's writings. I remember when Null read one of them for youtube I think and while I agree with the general sentiment of it there was something that struck me as odd. There was almost a banality to it. He was using too many words to overly explain his point which ended up not being a point at all. I think the part that got me was something like "To tell you what the system is I need to tell you what the system isn't" and it ended up him describing regular power structures and how it doesn't like the boat being rocked. The fact that he admitted in his private journals that he didn't care if his violence changed anything reinforces that he changed social and political points with enough autism to make them sound unique. I guess at least he was able to bring those ideas to the mainstream even if he didn't really believe in them but I don't think it was worth the life he took. Which is a damn shame because now any worthwhile talking points can be immediately dismissed as the words of deranged murderer, not that Ted would've cared.

Someone posted a gif of a baby with the same face, so I had to take a few minutes on it.
"Today, we're going to be covering the Naptime Iceberg and discovering if Mommy really did take our noses and where those noses ended up."

Another old lady take: wouldn't it make much more sense to divide this into a few shorter videos? One with the facts about Ted's life and capture, one about his manifesto vs. his independent existence as a meme, and then one where Wendi gives his own editorial/journey.

It just seems lazy to put it all in one long video, especially when it's not like the stories are interwoven--instead of saying "but we'll get to his philosophy" he could have said "but that's the next video" and it wouldn't have been any harder to edit.

That way people who just want the story get the story, people who want the "deep dive" can hear the manifesto discussion, and Wendi's fans have easy access to his summary.

I don't know the YouTube meta but it can't be encouraging 3+ hour videos, can it?
So a couple of pages back Wendigoon met with Quinton Reviews, a guy that revived his channel by making eldritch-ly long videos and he is starting to get shit just now because the fluff in them has less and less to do with the real subject.

I'm name-dropping Q because he did share his rationale earlier this year as to why he makes long videos instead of making multiple videos on a subject and since he hasn't had a single original thought in his life I'm inclined to believe is something he came up with in a YouTuber Discord.

Quinton's response was along the lines that he could only judge if a video idea was successful as one thing because if he were to make multiple videos on the same subject he would run out of thumbnail and title ideas (yes, really)* and viewership would diminish over time. He calls branding and pride his main reasons to not do multiple smaller videos instead of 8 hours worth of Nickelodeon sperging.

Considering they kind of move in the same circles and they are both known for making very long "deep dives" maybe Isaiah's reasons aren't that different.

*Quinton admits that he abuses clickbait and he only makes videos he knows he can make clickbait of.

and viewership would diminish over time.
This point is actually true and can been seen on any video series on YouTube, Viewership dies off after the first few parts if not immediately after part 1, so More Videos =/= More Views/More Ad Money. Also Youtube rewards watch time and if people are watching 2 to 3 hours of a single video, YouTube will reward you more for that even if People are only watching 3 hours of a 8 hour video, In the end they still watched 3 hours of one video.
(Note: The watch time stuff is probably a very outdated and not totally correct explanation, but the stuff about Video Series losing views per episode is 100% true.)
Gonna listen to the Greylock VS Urbanspook video while i work on some stuff, It seems interesting but I am slightly worried this might be Wendi's first slip into faggotry.

He'd be in for a rude awakening considering he's 1, a heterosexual married Christian who loves guns and Twitter hates that and 2, has people already screaming trans rights and CULTURAL APPROPRIATION at him thus salivating for a chance to cause his downfall,

He'd have to tread lightly.

This feels like an odd video for him to have made, if he's saying what I think he's saying. I don't think urbanspook is amazing but twitter faggots getting pissed off at him for being "edgy" is most of the reason his work is being trashed.
Yeah, which is especially fucking weird given how Stephen King includes non consensual kid diddling in like every other book he writes (and consensual kid diddling in a rather disturbing number of books besides) either as a central plot point or a throwaway aside to use but one singular example..... but then the demographic subset whining is the demographic subset who grew up learning that the best way to get cheap and immediate updoots and attention was to shriek about how upset and offended they are by edgy cawntent like a latter day tipper gore

He's gonna have have his own Scott Cawthon moment. He's a conservative creator that amassed a rabid leftist fanbase. It's only a matter of time at this point.

It took a few years for Scott to get cancelled over what was known back in 2014 when FNAF first became popular, but Wendigoon might not have so much time left before this powder keg explodes right in his face.

For fuck's sake.

Not everything has to be some arthouse piece (still filled with jumpscares ofcourse) about *insert topic related to the human condition*.
Shock jock horror is cheap, sure, but fuck man it's a niche and it's being filled by urbanspook.

I get that Wendigoon is a bit of an autist when it comes to lore/story etc and that's fine. Urbanspook is obviously not that nor does it need to be.
This just feels like a very fence-sitty way to cash in on a hate bandwagon, the kind I'd expect boogie2988 to do.
Least he could do is mention how retarded it is that people pile on urbanspook for it's "edge" instead of giving actual criticism, but no.

Can't help but be a bit dissapointed.

Disappointment sums up my feelings of the whole fucking situation.

Never thought I would witness the spirit of Mary Whitehouse return in the shape of a clique of coom obsessed degenerate zoomer autists and their grifting internet icons all shrieking for the return of the video nasty list for anything more edgy than a PG-13 inclusivity edited young adult novel but here we fucking are. And i'm saying this from the perspective of someone who genuinely fuckin dislikes mindless edgetard shit crowbarred into a book/movie/whatever as cheap shock value by a hack creator (though if its justified and done well I aint got no problemo)

This really is like if the brony demographic of old latched on to the raw abstract concept of being a massive preening censorious faggot instead of a gayass pedo-zoophile bait horse cartoon

It took him twelve minutes to start talking about the two series. Twelve. Urbanspook is clearly just being a shitlord for the sake of being a shitlord. He seems to have taken the video well though.

I liked the Faith video a lot, but everything after that has been boring as hell. It feels more and more like Wendigoon is losing his edge, and that hurts to say because for a while he was great.

I used to really pay attention to his videos, but now they've just become background noise while I do something else, which is really unfortunate. I will say with this latest video, I don't know nor do I care about people getting angry over what people say on Twitter, but I like Urbanspook's art.

I came into this video not knowing much about either series.

It's seriously Wendi's first argument that an "analog horror" series should not require so much suspension of disbelief? He's only going to complain about this guy relying on "creepy faces" and text captions?

Because, hot take, but that's pretty much all "analog horror." It's a bunch of dudes who don't know what VHS data loss looks like, writing characters who do the HPL-classic "dark paws materialize; am being dragged to cellar," and claiming that bad art is unretouched photos.

IMO it works for short, discrete but thematically-connected collections like Scarfolk Council, or Mystery Flesh Pit (which only tried a couple of long-form reports). When you have a single creator on a $0 budget trying to create a whole world, in video, there's no way they're going to be able to provide total immersion.

Which is why I personally don't care much for analog horror myself, but he's blaming this one ESL artist/musician for the sins of a whole genre.

I haven't watched the new video yet but you nailed it. I recently watched Iceberg Boy's video on Mandela Catalogue and I just didn't get it. It's the same garbage as all the analog horror I've seen in the exact same ways and the newest videos in that series look laughably bad after transitioning from hilariously retarded jpegs to hilariously retarded 3DCG. Hmm, Wendigoon kept mentioning how he's friends with the creator of that series during that video, though. Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the treatment of these different series, no, no.

Petscop is the only good analog horror, if you'd even describe that as analog horror.

The best analog horror IMO is Local 58.

Quoting myself, because once again, why is this one video?

He's comparing a series by one creator to a series with multiple experienced creators... why?

They don't have similar themes or settings. The creators aren't arguing OOC with each other. There's no reason this should be one video, or that they should be compared at all.
