Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I rewatched "We're Back a Dinosaur's Story" recently. Was the message supposed to be "don't work for the circus" or "don't become the monster others think you are"? All I know is John Goodman was the best voice in there.

I get what the writers where trying to do here. But honestly? This just shows that Luz needed some discipline in her upbringing.
Oh goody, another "sharing my experience so you know how wrong they were and how right I was" bit where the opposite happens. Some shitty things your parents would do are bad and you should learn from them for your kids, but others things were just tough love. This is one of them. Welcome to parenting, it's not friendship.

So how and when the fuck did Moral Orel suddenly get huge?

I'm not angry or anything about it, it's just that clips of the show tend to get like 30k views at best and now I'm seeing clips and reviews of the show hit well over a million
I think it's streamer stuff on tiktok and instagram. The younger ones are reacting to old stuff for meme bait and attention. Unlike reviewers who do it because they like talking toons and getting attention. Same thing happened with Fanboy and Chumchum some years back. It just sprung back up out of nowhere because some young "reactors" were watching it.

That is a very nuanced view of the whole Scrappy thing.

That said, fuck Scrappy. Fuck real monsters too. Fuck nuking the whole basic message of the show.
Making the monsters real worked too good in "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" that they had to keep doing it to the point it's boring. The old show woke you up to the reality of there's no such things as curses and monsters, it's just someone scamming you. The new shit plays it straight and is stale now when you remember capeshit does this crap all the time already (complete with the same drama bs as Mystery Inc). At this point, to make a new iteration where there's no monsters or curses and just scam artists would be refreshing again.

This looks pretty cool
The trailer revealed a bit too much (as usual) but it looks 10 times better than Disney's demake. :drink:

Does anybody else notice in stop motion lately where there's parts that slow down randomly? Like they have to remind us this is stop motion and not CGI or something? It's just as jarring as slo-mo in live-action.

Modern writers just have no imagination.
Why do you think they get hired at Hollowood? 🚬

why are fanfic writers surpassing paid professionals with ease?
Many reasons. No tardwranglers, no investors to appease, no copyrights to obey and to top it off, their autism love of whatever their passionately fixated on to make such a thing.

My bf was sad the whole day when he heard this. What a loss. (I didn't kno he was gay. His name never came up when talking about gays in the industry. or it did and I just don't care to remember)

And I guess a good bunch of these fanfic writers aren't woke....yet or have grown-up from their wokism age and moved on.
My favorite one is where the protagonist is a heavily implied bisexual, biracial racist who detests every color of the rainbow, even the ones he's part of. Especially the ones he's part of. Reminds me of the HBO style back in the Sopranos, Deadwood, and Oz days.
They already do that. They're called "live-action remakes".
i still wonder why those exist when they all fail

Well, that's the thing. They didn't fail, at least, not monetarily:
The Lion King remake premiered in Hollywood on July 9, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on July 19, 2019, in the Dolby Cinema, RealD 3D and IMAX formats. It has grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide during its theatrical run, overtaking Frozen to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It also became the seventh-highest-grossing film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2019.
Aladdin was theatrically released in the United States on May 24, 2019. It grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the ninth highest-grossing film of 2019.
The Beauty and the Beast remake grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing live-action musical film, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2017 (after Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and the tenth-highest-grossing film of all time.

oh goddammit
when will people stop falling for the bait of shitty live-action

I'm sure the latter. Sounds like a "gotta believe in yourself" trope these movies do.

And yeah, that's all TikTok does with making these older shows noticable. I still love this tune long before it got pillaged.

Exactly, this doesn’t make me feel sorry Camilla, it makes me think, Luz could have used some discipline growing up.

That’s the problem with a lot of people, today, they have no discipline.

Honestly, I agree. I got bored of monsters & magic because it’s the same old thing. Vampires, wizards, dragons, elves, etc.

I mean, when was the last time, someone came up with a idea for a new creature? Or a more creative idea for magic and the supernatural?

As far as the mainstream goes? Not in a long while. There's been creativity in the indie scene of course. I thought Slenderman was the scariest recent monster in memory. And before furries ruined it like everything else, the FNAF robots were scary for a while (damn jumpscares).

As for magic and supernatural, Japan has continued to kick our ass at that. Close your eyes and pick a title in the genre. You'll get something more creative than the DnD/WoW/LotR/HP rejects and dickriders could ever think to make.

I’ve had dnd campaign ideas but then again I lack the capacity to animate or write about it. I always think of these spore creatures I made based off the 3rd edition monster guide. It was pretty fun but probably much more originality in it than most animation these days.

I never thought Slenderman was scary, he was weird but not scary. The face and tentacles were creepy but I thought the suit was lame.

I agree, but anime sometimes falls into pitfalls itself. But the really creative ones are usually obscure,

I will never forgive the Japanese!
for a moment
for a single second
their works made me ashamed to be an american

View attachment 3862407 Yes. Plus they also had some really good oversized pants: View attachment 3862431View attachment 3862437 View attachment 3862449 I think it subconsciously made me want to by XL-sized pants and shorts for no real reason at all.
The creator of Pelswick was a quadriplegic too.

Here's some of his work!

“Adults with infantilized taste - pride in lack of sophistication.”

Honestly, he’s right about that. Modern American Animation is for adults who don’t want to grow up.

I mean, I still watch shows like Grin Adventures & Batman TAS because I love those episodes. But I’m mature enough to know the difference between fiction and reality.
I think American Animation can rise out of the rut, it just needs better writers, and more creative ideas.
