Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It’s bizarre to me whenever something terrible like this happens, people will spend like a full paragraph on Twitter explains why they hate a person only to add at the very end “but this was sad for them”.

Like it’s okay to feel bad for someone you don’t 100% agree with, Christ.

I don't even know who this prick is. I just wish kiwis would stop spamming the same gushing, virtue-signalling post based on some shred of parasocial relationship they once had with someone they don't like.

I get it. You're the bigger man for saying "I dislike him but". Now go and read statistics on how many people get slaughtered on the road every day, write to your congressman about more stringent driving license tests, and fuck off.

Remember to leave a top hat first

oh wait it's because the animators draw the girls one-handed
Behold the one and only reason there are so many young lesbian girls in western animation.

Anybody who knows who is the original artist of this legendary image? I remember that it was posted on /co/ back on 2020

OK not bad, but a few things. Either have hilda throttling amity blythe or later season short haired, bi pride pin, (possibly hrt to hell) Luz.

For me I been trying to think what cartoon female character have I seen in recent years who wasnt lesbian or bisexual and was just plain straight?
Isn't hilda? Also molly Mcgee last I checked and i might be remembering this wrong but didn't the creator of amphibia say the only reason the girls of amphibia were made to join the rainbow brigade was because the wojacks of Twitter surrounded him and pulled an animal farm on him. Because they weren't happy it was never addressed on the actual show?

As in pretty much pressured him into breaking and saying OK OK the blonde tomboy and Anne do a little experimenting with each other in the distant future what else do you people want me to say?!" A false confession by any other name.

I don't watch Hilda to be honest. You are correct Molly McGee isn't a lesbian (that we know of so far). Yeah from what it sounds Amphibia's creator was force into it because the fans weren't leave him alone on Twitter.

Jesus this one really sucked, the one positive I can say Is that I am happy to see these characters again after so many years, the original Clone High is very close to my heart and anything with these characters is a joy to see. Other than that though the humour was pretty bland with unnecessary violence and all the current year jokes were lame and unnecessary, the woke pandering to Frida and the black dangerhair was obviously terrible but expected. And while I still like seeing the classic Early 2000's CN art style in 4K seeing it tweened and look choppier than a two decade old show is fucking unforgivable at this point. Another classic bites the dust to modern tastes and production, that and Tiny Toons. The 2020s so far has been the bleakest time for Western animation I've seen yet.

Someone pointed this out on Twitter. In the reboot, they rounded out the edges on Joan's head for some reason.

Considering the 2002 original used the angular "retro flat" style, it feels a little off-putting.

Oh my God it's the real ghostbusters janines glasses debacle all over again only this time it's not the "children afraid of sharp objects." Argument it's the giant man babies who work on this crap.

Seriously look up jms behind the scenes interviews about the second season and beyond of real ghostbusters. A consulting firm pretty much came in and butchered the show with bullshit notes about how Jeannine's face and glasses are too angular and might scare small children, the ghosts are too scary and you're making too many mentions of them being dead.

Oh get off the cross we need the wood, plus we still got 7 years to go a lot changes in that time.
Overreaction? perhaps but like so many others have said just a few pages back that the 2020's has really offered very little in terms of variety and original programming for western animation, almost all of the recent shows are attached to some sort of major IP like Thundercats Scooby- Doo, Marvel or DC properties. Or their sequels or reboots that bastardise the original property like the Clone High and the Tiny Toons reboots we've been subjected to. It may not be the worst time and their is the occasional gem I've seen but its easily one of the most creatively sterile and lazy times for animation since the 1980s.

"heh, chuds. every cartoon has a lesbian couple with two thin girls with no skin blemishes, disabilities, bpd, shitty unwashed hair or nose piercings. we won" -the wokie says as a gay man gets his head cut off in saudi arabia

if the point of representation is to represent what other groups look like why are harley and ivy, catra and she-ra, korra and asami traditionally attractive whereas all the gay men are fat hags? shouldnt it be the opposite, with two fat lesbians who hate eachother, or at the very least one disgusting fat guy with a himbo husband? oh wait it's because the animators draw the girls one-handed and the boys for clout
Do they "draw" the girls at all?

One thing I keep noticing is a lot of girls in modern cartoons look a bit like Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo.

I found this especially odd with Catra. In the 1985 show, her hair was blue. But for the Netflix one its brown. Almost like they changed it just to hide a similarity that would otherwise be too obvious... I mean she's basically got Ryoko's hair just its a different color. On that note, Entrapta looks a lot like Ayeka... which I guess makes Hordak Tenchi....

But yeah whenever I watch modern cartoons it seems I always see someone who looks like Ryoko.

All I can think is either way, she looks like Flat-Top from the old Dick Tracy cartoon.

(I unfortunately had a hard time finding an image of Flat-Top by himself that was from this exact cartoon, so enjoy Flat Top crimesplaining to a spic).

Do people seriously get upset about minor stylistic changes like this? not even accounting that the original Clone High was not a childrens series, aimed at teenagers and young adults so why did they feel the need to compromise the shows angular blocky look? Who is this for exactly?

Schafrillas is finally well enough to give a statement.

Predictably, the poor guy's clearly dealing with a hell of a case of survivor's guilt. He stated that when he's more physically healed, he thinks that he'll probably go back to video making. He says that it'll give him something to occupy his mind and keep him from spiralling, and that Chris and Patrick loved the channel and would want it to go on. Their voices will appear in two or so future videos, as they'd recorded for them, and James wants to help continue on their legacy, though he's not quite sure how he'll do that yet (possibly through charity).

Poor dude. I hope that he heals soon and heals well, and that the scars on his heart and mind fade in time.
