Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

What hell is the point of reboot? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a series take place with Kim in college or being a full-time secret agent?
Because then they couldn’t make Kim and Shego a couple while shitting all over Ron.

I have no faith in this at all.

I agree. Most of the franchises of today are getting older, and probably should have ended while they were ahead. Even Batman and Spider-Man are falling victim to rut after so many years.

I don’t think woke is necessarily the problem with entertainment or especially animation. Corporate overreach is a much bigger concern and is why so many dead franchises continue to this day.

In animation, the medium was dead once the 2000s kicked in. The obvious sign was the writer’s strike of 07, which created a talent void. My understanding is that companies gained more control over creations, taking out individual rights. This in turn created less care for creators to do well as their creation’s didn’t mean anything long term anymore. A Star Wars character could have been liked and used by many artists later, giving the original creator more money later, but now Disney owns all creations, thus, no point in making it good.

Then you have companies like Nickelodeon which were franchise pumping and dumping all throughout the 00s. If a franchise didn’t debut to SpongeBob numbers, it was dead on arrival. The most notorious example of this was Making Fiends, where Nick bought a series from a female indie creator, then sabotaged it by not running ads, moving it to the less viewed NickToons, and airing it at bad times. Despite it all, the show was a success, but Nick didn’t want it so trash it went.

The above just lead to many creators exiting or not pursuing the industry as companies were shit. Now we have nepotism running rampant, mainly in CN and Disney, as they just keep hiring friends of friends, of friends of the Flapjack crew. If they fail, companies don’t take it as a sign to move out of the group, but rather to go back to creators they likely fucked over prior to 07. Nothing truly changes as it is the same blood being pumped, because why take the risk on newbies? Hell, why take the risk on new IP?

Woke was a natural occurrence given the circumstances. Any smart individual would have seen animation as a terrible career decision given the actions taken. For those who did get in, well, they happened to have the worst politics and infected the industry as companies wouldn’t hire outsiders.
I guess you guys have a point. Even the new people who do come in are sadly tumbler people who are the wrost people to make contant for kids. Good new at least that show with the gender special was cancelled. So theirs some hope in the future.

Hence, reboot. They can change whatever they want to make what the want.
I'll never forget when Butch Hartman basically told Danny/Vlad shippers to fuck off. Since in all fairness that ship is creepy and those people should be viewed as the scum as they are.

It's the same thing with the Shego and Kim ship in my opinion

It isn’t even necessarily Tumblr, the ones getting shows are friends of Hirsch or Sugar. It is just friends of the two leftist continuously being hired, it is no wonder why the industry became homogeneous.

That's also annoying too. I had notice a lot of recent cartoon creators are tie to those two which explains the same art style.
That's why I really appreciate the older cartoon creators who still work

So, one of my frustrations with western animation that I feel like sperging about now...

.... Is how difficult it is to find it on the Seven Seas. Unlike anime where pretty much everything can be found easily (and even on several places made specifically for that), with western animation if its not on Pirate Bay or Archive.org, it seems like you're screwed.

I mean, sometimes stuff shows up on Youtube, but there you always have to accept compromises like maybe its extremely low bitrate/blurry looking because it was uploaded in the early days (Lazer Tag Academy is a good example here--I have VHS releases that legit look better). Other times the quality is fine but they stretched the show--or else cut off the top and bottom--to make it widescreen. I was just watching an episode of the 1980 Lone Ranger cartoon that suffered from this exact issue.

You would think there'd be a place to just download rips or even ISOs of the various DVD releases of shows like Real Ghostbusters or the afformentioned Lone Ranger (which was released alongside Filmation's Zorro)... but no.

No wonder people hate anime fans. They get all this free shit in the highest quality and sometimes even get free access to exactly the version they want--"you want this specific DVD release from 2005? Here ya go." Western animation fans tend to have to take what they can get or else pay through the nose.

Unless the show is made within the last ten years.

I mean, unless I'm just not Duck Duck Going to the right places or using the right search terms.

Disney's allergic to actually good ideas for continuations like that, so gay retconning/shipping devolving it is.

Duck Duck Go WCO Stream. Mostly an anime site, but there's a bunch of western cartoons too including random old ones. Also has acceptable quality, mostly better than what gets uploaded to YouTube.

I will thank you both right now, @Vyse Inglebard and @Jean Lafitte 1812

...............

So in other news, had one of those times where I found myself wiki-walking and discovering more western cartoons I had never heard of, at all.

One of them was.... this thing called Peppermint Rose.

I get the idea at first... it seems like its gonna be a Strawberry Shortcake or Rose Petal Place ripoff (TV Tropes describes it as being similar to something called Lady Lovely Locks, which is in the "I've heard the name but never watched the show" pile).

It deviates right off the bat, however. for one thing, while her friends get name-dropped, this special is mostly just a solo effort from Rose, who is a bit of a brat. For another thing, I've noticed a strangely common scene in these pilot specials of girl-oriented toylines is "the named heroine is presumed dead until her friends crying revives her Ash Ketchum style." But here, that doesn't happen.

Also, that little wizard is a bastard. He basically kidnaps her but then curses her for "being rude." Dimi is a good name for him. Dimi and Jimmy.

Midway through there's a rap-riddle. The fuck.

Also... if their "empowered" designs (only seen at the very beginning and very end) are supposed to be what the dolls look like... gotta be honest, these girls looked better in normal Earth clothes. The pseudo-Victorian outfits with the bloomers just kinda look like they're trying too hard. Actually Peppermint herself looks most adorable in one bit where she's put in knight's armor.

But at least this was made in 1992 and not 2012. I would hate to see what the internet does to these characters. That's why I'm reviewing it on Kiwi and not Reddit.

While binge watching Over The Garden Wall, WCO then paused the video and asked me to register due to electronic issues to continue watching. I noped out of there and moved to lookmovie2.com as a result.

I never watched Kim Possible when it was on, because I just dismissed it as a girl's show (though I did watch Teenage Robot and PPG around the same time, go figure). I'm not surprised there's a reboot in the works with how everything is getting rebooted these days.
But I am surprised to learn there was a live action version. Gee, I'm sure this went over well with the older fans.

The boy has young Justin Timberlake's noodle hair.

Ironically, the guy got the voice of Ron down fairly well. And the guy playing Drakken was great, him and Shego played off each other well.

The main issue was the plot which involved Kim basically having a massive mental breakdown because someone was slightly better at something than she was. It was incredibly stupid and supremely out of character. They also gave her a second sidekick, robot girl that’s better than her at everything.

That never happened to me when I used that website; is this a new thing or does this happen when there's no adblock/ublock on that site?
