Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I was really glad I decided to skip out on it when I saw a pic of one of them going Super Saiyan Blue.
Your choice was wise. That was the episode that peaked the show and everything went wrong
>nerdy girl gets shish kabobbed and femto'd
>internet meme references galore
>anime references galore
>The three girls get ugly super forms

And stop me if you've heard this one but there's an evil mask with glowing orange eyes that possesses its wearer and causes the moon to fall out of the sky towards the earth and the power of a red gem, a green gem and a blue gem in an ancient golden artifact stop it.

You can't even call this a coincidence because there are multiple Zelda references throughout the show.

why are their faces so close together? why do the girls in the center and on the right especially look so similar? why is everything so fucking ugly?

Amphibia could have been something really nice if it was written by anyone else. Three teenage girls get warped into this dark fantasy with talking frogs learning about family and true friendship and it's an action adventure/dark comedy? Sounds pretty neato. But unfortunately, it succumbed to the siren song (like most Western Animation these days) to become Shitty Western Pseudo Anime. Steven Universe is Patient Zero for SWPA because the animation industry is a Hapsburg like clusterfuck, full of weeaboos and hacks who don't understand why something works for anime but not when it is sloppily copied out of context.
This is why I think the french are the masters of pseudo-anime cartoons. Look at the "what would you consider anime?" discussion in the earlier pages and some mentioned french shows & movies. It also helps that many don't obnoxiously copy paste or memberberry shit from anime, they have their own style and the aesthetic doesn't feel as hacky as the north american cartoons.
Yeah Amphibia had a lot of potential but north americans will not get away from the animation = kiddie stuff only mindset

I agree on the ‘it would have been better if it was written by someone else’ part, but I disagree on the family, friendship and comedy part.

Call me cynical but I don’t think those themes fit in a dark fantasy setting.

I watched The Three Caballeros last night on Disney+, and it had a disclaimer before it began saying they're sorry about how awful and racist the movie is, but they decided to keep it uncut. I really don't know why they had to cancel it, I didn't see anything racist. The only things somewhat dated are Donald Duck chasing girls at the beach (but it's really done playfully and with slapstick comedy), Jose Carioca smoking, and Panchito Pistoles having guns (both of these things are treated as the devil by SJWs). Anyways, really good movie.

It made me fall into a Donald Duck rabbit hole late at night. I had heard good stuff about the new Ducktales, and while I would never watch things like Adventure Time or Gravity Falls, nostalgia won me over, and I decided to give it a try. It's surprisingly good and consistently funny. I wasn't the biggest fan of the original Ducktales while growing up, but I always liked Scrooge McDuck.

I've heard about the gay dads in the third season, hopefully, it doesn't get any more woke than that. I just want to watch something made recently that doesn't have any politics on it, why is it so hard to find such thing?
Ducktales is good, though I need to finish it. The Three Caballeros episode was very cute.

The saddest part about this is that Saber used to be one of the more respectable animation reviewers.
Yes, he was always a neck beard brony but he used to be less of a stereotype and the animation reviewing people are either spergs or pedos, so not many options.
ugh...

Amphibia peaked with season 1, that was when it had a nice balance between the slice of life, comedy and dark fantasy aspects of it, hell even midway to season 2 the series still had that sense of wonder and adventure. It's in the second half where the writers lost the plot: the pacing becomes more rushed and the balance between plot and SoL episodes goes to shit where it feels like they stopped caring about the ongoing history to concentrate on their wacky anime rip-offs homages (god, Anita Azul was so fucking cringe).

Season 3 then comes and makes it clear that the series was just wasted potential, first half is the writers sucking their own dicks about how LA is such a cool place to live in along with a diversity squad and the second half is a welcome return to form but to that point is a little too late. Like in the end Amphibia is not horrible but you can't help but think what would have happened have the creator keep his videogame and anime autism on check.

I guess that's what I get for trusting a modern cartoon to actually stick to their setting.

Ehh I genuinely like this guy, It's a somewhat impressive feat in of itself and the Youtube algorithm now rewards long essay like videos so It makes sense that they capitalise on it.
I did watch some of LS Mark's stuff on The Fairy Oddparents but I've never got too invested in his channel. Since we're talking about Saberspark and other related animation reviewers, I decided to do some digging into some of the LS Mark stuff.

LS Mark's face reveal (according to Wikitubia).

And what do I know, LS Mark's wife is Veronica Galladro, OneyNG's (Chris O'Neill) ex-girlfriend, who has numerous infidelities and is almost a decade older than Mark (in which Kiwi Farms has a lolcow page on and her relation to Mark). What a fucking small world. All these Western animation reviewers are lolcows in the making.

Avatar: has a full head of hair and a soul patch on the chin.

Reality: looks like a balding 40 year old creep with a full literal neck beard.

My God man do you have no shame at all? Wither hide behind an avatar or be honest with yourself.

I have to respectfully disagree. Mark despite the..horrible bad taste in women seems like a nice kid. Or good people and I sincerely hope he doesn't end up like...well neck beard bluey fucker aka Saberspark up there. Saber? Oh he can go straight to the horror cow boards. He's been o. The decline for years and has only shown that he's Destin to be a deviant in out crosshairs sooner or later.

It's a slippery slope being an animation critic. Some stay mostly decent others well...you end up with animat, Saber, mrenter, headhunter productions, the list goes on.

I agree animation shouldn't just be for children and that western animation has this issue of either being for kids whose worst nightmare is their math homework or comedies for jaded adults.

I don't see anything wrong with adults enjoying kids cartoons. Or wanting more animation for adults.

The problem in my opinion is them trying to hijack what's meant for children. My little pony being the most well know example.
And worse animators making things, not for children , but man children.

The woke cal arts crowd only makes cartoons for young adults all while deluding themselves they are "educating" children with woke shit. Then then they love to bitch once the network, to the shock of no one, cancels them in favor of shows kids actually watch.

Say, to this day I still doubt Steven Universe was actually mainly loved kids. More like it was sustained by adult viewers and maybe kids in their late teens if we are generous.

And this is from someone that agrees SU actually had a lot of great things in it's favor like some good music.

It's creepy when man children get all mad when literal children oriented companies like Nickelodeon or Disney don't cater to them. Instead they should just prove there is a market for adult animation so companies try to make more adult shows.

Or to be blunt. " Disney adults" and those of a similar ilk, they need to grow up.
