Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Might be worth a Community Watch or Animal Control thread then, although I don't see how Bluey beats out MLP in the autism department.
It's more of how quick the autism showed itself. With adults fucking crying over this show or making "Emotional" ranking videos already

Late and gay, but...

Frankly, I've always hated those disclaimers. Yeah, I know there's stuff that rips on minorities (or, with Three Caballeros, triggers them for not being "racially sensitive" enough even though Walt Disney literally created it to celebrate Latin America and its culture), we all know that. How about a setting that lets us choose whether or not to see them for those of us who aren't total pussies, like you did with the toggle for episodes of The Simpsons to be seen cropped or uncropped? As it is, I'm just gonna watch the Disney cartoons through torrents; same with The Simpsons, albeit for a different form of censorship, specifically Al Jean and James L. Brooks removing a classic episode for the sake of sucking Robson and Safechuck's dicks (granted, they're both assholes anyway, but that's for another discussion).
I can assure you only gringos get offended that Panchito Pistoles shoots guns and sings mariachi. Nobody in Mexico would be bothered by that, if anything they'd be proud. Reminds me when they tried to cancel Mario Odyssey for having the Mexican village area, despite everybody in Latin America bring excited to see Mario in a sombrero.

How do you guys feel about the cartoon metal family? I think the writing is getting better as the show goes on and the writers seem to at least try and tell a coherent narrative. Compared to helluva boss and the proud family reboot this seems like some Picasso level shit. Some of the humor does not appeal to me and sometimes it makes me cringe but other than that and some nitpicks I have I think it's a decent cartoon. English dub is dog shit though.

I still can't get over the fact that glam's faggot ass was getting his wrists all bloody over what looked like to be a wooden ruler. kek.

This shit absolutely shreds and it was only in one episode

Metal family is actually an ok series where the creators are clearly still getting a hand of storytelling and animation.

In my opinion it's much better than the Vivzipop stuff as the people behind it are not trying to push it as some ground braking step in adult animation.
It's clearly a passion project b a few people with allot of heart.

Still the show does have a few cringe moments. The characters being for the most part simple tropes is one thing.

What the fuck even is Bluey? This thread is the only place I've heard of it.

Just by the images that have been shown here... at least MLP had cute character designs going for it. Bluey looks like just another random modern cartoon.

I agree animation shouldn't just be for children and that western animation has this issue of either being for kids whose worst nightmare is their math homework or comedies for jaded adults.

I don't see anything wrong with adults enjoying kids cartoons. Or wanting more animation for adults.

The problem in my opinion is them trying to hijack what's meant for children. My little pony being the most well know example.
And worse animators making things, not for children , but man children.

The woke cal arts crowd only makes cartoons for young adults all while deluding themselves they are "educating" children with woke shit. Then then they love to bitch once the network, to the shock of no one, cancels them in favor of shows kids actually watch.

Say, to this day I still doubt Steven Universe was actually mainly loved kids. More like it was sustained by adult viewers and maybe kids in their late teens if we are generous.

And this is from someone that agrees SU actually had a lot of great things in it's favor like some good music.

It's creepy when man children get all mad when literal children oriented companies like Nickelodeon or Disney don't cater to them. Instead they should just prove there is a market for adult animation so companies try to make more adult shows.

Or to be blunt. " Disney adults" and those of a similar ilk, they need to grow up.
Really I think Grenndy Tartakovsky is one of the few animator creators who knows how to do proper adult animation that isn't a Simpsons knock off.

Let's never forget Speedy Gonzales where white liberals were mad at the character and thought he was offensive meanwhile he is hugely loved in Mexico and Latin America counties. My step mother loves him since she was a kid and she grew up in Ecuador. I wonder if she has other seen Three Caballeros?

Gotta admit I am sorta happy to be seeing the Three Caballeros love... I always thought that was one of Disney's more underrated movies, and oh god that song is stuck in my head (as is that pink bird that makes the honk noises).

One part I never understood though... maybe someone here can clarify....

Okay at one point the red guy (Pistoles?) tells Donald about a Mexican holiday where the kids go from house to house and are consistently told "no shelter," until finally they get to one that offers it. This is apparently meant to replicate the journey of Mary and Joseph.

What I always wondered is this: Is the "shelter" house planned in advance? I would imagine it is, but I also imagine more than once someone has fucked up and accidentally offered these kids shelter, not realizing it was a holiday. Do the kids know in advance which house is the correct one?

That was one case where I felt like Disney skimped on Details. Or maybe they didn't and I just didn't hear or couldn't understand the explanation through the thick accent (my VHS tape isn't in the best condition, either).

Bluey is a cute, charming show. It's one of the better children's shows to have come out in the past decade, of which I'll give it massive credit to when shit like Cocomelon exists that everyone's braindead babies are watching. Adults liking it is fine as it was made with both children and parents in-mind.

But man, the fanbase is borderline autistic. Are adults seriously balling their eyes out to this, are we that emotionally fragile these days? Fucking "emotional ranking."
I'm not one to comment on someone's emotions, I hate that "be a man" shit they use to emotionally stunt men; but I ultimately find this rather silly.

I wonder if the show-runners know of the sheer autism they've attracted.

The problem I have with adult animation is since it's inception to the present day it's devolved into a competition to see who can be the most edgy or the next South Park.
What's even more interesting is that children animation is ultimately MORE mature than adult animation. Adult animation is not just edgy, it's childish. It's not just oh, you got to add SEX, VIOLENCE, and PROFANITY to a series to make it more mature like Love, Death, and Robots, did, because animated sitcoms like Family Guy and Rick and Morty already did that (which is why Love, Death, and Robots, despite some bits with good art-style, is non-innovating). It's childish low quality humor for jaded adults or teenagers to consoom. When people tell stories to children, a good storyteller makes them memorable. That is why they make the story applicable when the child reaches adulthood. Entertaining and relatable.

Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo, all are objectively more mature that your animated sitcoms, because one of the most mature aspects of adulthood is parenting, and both films show the struggles the parental figure has (Sully being a protector for Boo, Bob Parr having to be honest with his family, Marlin trying to find his child who was kidnapped and his emotional trauma relating to it; his family also got eaten by a barracuda). Now compare that to Family Guy in which Peter Griffin keeps beating and ignoring his daughter Meg and it remains a trope that never gets developed because FUNNIE.

I personally find the Bluey explosion much weirder than the MLP one.
MLP at least had the fantasy element. It had a very tangible world and had classic cartoonists like Lauren Faust and Ron Renzetti on board.
I'm going to be incredibly charitable (cos I haven't actually watched it) and assume that all the talk about Bandit and Chili is true and that they're very well written parents. I still find it surprising just how popular it is. Are we that devoid of well written families on TV these days?

For most of the adults that are in love with Bluey having a father figure that is loving, smart, and cares about his kids (with the wife not being a harpy nag) IS the fantasy element.

Preschool in what sense? Is it like Blue's Clues and trying to be educational or is it closer to Strawberry Shortcake in that the plots try to avoid having even a hint of danger or real stakes?
Bley is a preschool cartoon about a Australian family of four (Mom, Dad and two daughters).

It's just a happy little show about the kids playing and the parents trying to make sure they don't hurt themselves or joining in on the fun.
It's do to this simplicity it got allot of attention as it seams that every cartoon family nowadays has to be pathological to the extreme.

I feel validated knowing now everyone agrees with my take from a month ago:
I have been getting recommendations for vids based on Bluey recently, and I have to say, if Bluey doesn’t breed the next brony community, I will honestly be shocked. We have already hit the bullying arc.

I will give bronies this, at least they are entertaining in their autism, the Bluey community just makes me concerned and depressed at the state of western animation fans.
The show is fine, and really MLP was too.

I follow a bit of the MLP fandom thanks to ShellyD and many of the early 2010s animation critics on YT, and I just see all the signs where this fandom could go wrong. Past the justifying watching a kids show, I have seen people describe Bluey as being a near religious experience. Hell there was a YT comment declaring that the show will end generational trauma. I have a feeling that this show is slowly gearing up to take MLP’s place since it even took a bit for MLP to get the reputation it has now. I give it a year as I am curious to the legacy of this series.
I Fucking Called It!!

I went further into this, so here:
It is a laid back series with little conflict and a wholesome family. If the vids I posted are anything to go by, people are using it as a substitute for their family as Bluey is the way family is “supposed to be.” I compare it to MLP as that was the reasoning for many in that fandom as well. As a side note, I remember some brony ShellyD looked at who spoke about how he was attracted to the ponies because his dad divorced his mom and now he can’t trust family. These shows attract man/woman-children as they function as some idealization of what friends and family are. It becomes more apparent when you look at communities like Animal Crossing.
