Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I've seen PPATP and Mighty Max. Very bold ending for the latter, though I don't recall ever watching the whole series myself.
Mighty Max's ending always left me with questions.

Like.... do you think he ends up having to literally re-fight every monster he's ever defeated? I mean he does end up resetting time to the day he first got the cap after all.... then again, if they ever did a third season, a potential story idea would be "what if, because he knows this is gonna get him involved with that mess in Egypt, he takes steps to avoid it, but it ends up leading to a bigger problem he has to solve later?" or that kind of thing.

Also, sorry if this sounds like a snipe at this topic in particular but its kind of depressing how everybody only ever talks about new shit. It makes sense on reddit where everyone always thinks its gonna be awesome, but when every announcement is met with "its gonna suck because woke" it gets to be a drag.

We got a new Disney show folks
Good lawd, this is pretty much a combination of all things, Kim Possible, MLaaTR, Time Squad, Flapjack, Bob's Burgers, Mitchells vs. the Machines, Rick & Morty and a couple Nick TMNT reboots.
Lord Nicklebottom is my fav.
Patch, Hatch and Satch for me

Ok, so for positives:

-main love interest is a guy
-design is nerdy, but cute and not an eyesore clusterfuck while also being recognisable enough
-the opposite of a 'mega quirky edgy weird girl so much cooler and more daring than all the other people borderline mary sue who barely changes' that Luz was
-decently interesting premise, at least not more magical girl isekai shit, seems like a good premise for a slightly more episodic show with each episode probably handling 1 task from the list.
Made by people from a disney xd comedy sitcom thing and voiced by people mostly from funny shows, seems competent enough at creating entertainment actually meant for kids.

-cute enough artstyle
-idk how they're actually gonna turn out but based on first impressions I feel like kid me would've liked Hailey and Scott as characters, they seem entertaining enough with one probably scared of everything but smart and the other probably being a brave dumbass, and finally a girl main character with a male best friend where the girl isn't both brave and smart while the guy is a scared moron, it might actually be equal for once.
-voice cast seems normal enough, main character is probably a pacific islander since she's being voiced by moana, the dad is voiced by a samoan, and the mom is voiced by a white person.

The negatives:

- the future person looks mega generic and like shit
-the scifi shit in general looks pretty basic
-so much focus on relationship drama in the first trailer already holy hell
-'im not like other girls bc im lame'/kawaii potato/im so clumsy/regular nerd/etc style quirky, which is far less egregious because she'll most likely become more daring and proactive and stuff as the show goes on rather than just stay the same but still kinda eh, well see how they'll handle it.
-already declared the chosen one/most important person in the universe
-the trailer really wants us to know that her bestie has an ethnic (filipino?) surname. Who tf mentions their best friend by full name in their diary/list?

Relationship drama really sells. There's a reason there was a love triangle in Korra.

Oh also I just noticed that for the kid characters, out of her recurring classmates 3 will be male and only 1 will be female, which made me realise it's been a while since a cartoon with more guys than girls in the main age bracket.
Star vs, Amphibia, Loud House, Owl house, molly mcgee, even gravity falls had mostly female characters as far as it came to characters of a similar age to the main character.

So far a fair amount of people experienced in entertainment, specifically childrens entertainment, maybe this wont be so bad-

At least the breadwinner was good :(

I will look foreward to Uncle Ruckus as a little pink robo bear tho.

Say what you will about Clarence, I always appreciated that the main trio was just three boys, cause that's typically how cliches form around that age.
Also Brendon Small cameo'd as his character from home movies :heart-full:.

But anyway this new disney show looks very lame. You could lie to me and tell me this trailer actually came out 5 years ago and I would believe you.

I still don't get why Clarence was hated upon, I thought it was relaxing.

the bear better yell racial slurs

Kids do not understand relatable love triangle problems. They're only focused on visuals.
correct, but i think they wanted a preteen/teen audience for the show given a lot of kids who watched the show as the kids who watched the original would be teens by the time korra came around
besides, dont you remember the shipping wars? of course they had to cater to them

"This will help us market toys to kids, right?"

"Kids?"
I mean, plenty of kids shows did romamce in a way that interested (female) kids, like icarly, h20 just add water, zoe 101, danny phantom, kim possible, jake long american dragon, winx club, most pre-2015 disney movies etc, for the little romatics.

Still, making it such a core point of the premise and the trailer is a bit weird, especially knowing how many teens and adults get invested in relationships in shows meant for kids.

In the case of TLOK is more strange:
The entire plotlines are more obscure as hell; and so many times Korra was kidnapped in jail cells chained.
Even the best death scenes are off-screen in S3; always i'm using the example the old queen hag scene and the execution of that fire lady from red lotus.
I think Bryke gambled so much about TLOK being the "edgy teen" version of ATLA.

I have no idea what this is but I had to look at it every time I got my coffee at McDolan's for the past month.View attachment 5099713
How does the white chick have the flattest nose out of all of them??
It's kind of funny to me that the only non-black one is a ginger though, considering what usually happens to ginger characters. I think the 3 black kids are siblings though, as they all have the last name Grant in the cast list.

Screenshot_20230429-231456_Chrome.jpg

Idk im fine with it, black people are actually creating something for themselves rather than just whining for others to do it or slaping themselves onto preexisting characters.
Ludacris made a cute albeit ugly cartoon for his daughter and other black kids, seems fairly inoffensive.

As long as it's not trying to push political shit or bad morals in the cartoon itself, I don't see what's wrong with it.
It's most likely just a very very basic show that happens to have a black main character with similar age siblings, which is not that weird for a show that takes place in modern America.
The friend group is black black redhead brown like the og proud family group, but here they're probably actual friends rather than people who constantly backstab eachother and have race-related fights.

Representation on it's own is not a bad thing, and so far this seems like representation for kids done right?
Ludacris is probably funding it anyways so if anything, it's not taking money away from other potential shows.

Show seems to be doing well with toys too, so honestly I'm just glad about the existence of a cartoon that actually appeals to and is enjoyable for actual kids, even if it's mostly black ones.

Don't think there's any indoctrination, like with Owl House, Proud Family reboot, or the upcoming Fairly Odd Parents reboot, and honestly imo kids of colour deserve cute shows with them in it that aren't shoved full of shit.

I can't be mad at something actually trying to make children (not teens and childish adults) happy.
(Though I dont care how happy black kids are with black ariel, they wouldve been just as happy if not more with a black mermaid main character who was a new character in a new story)

considering the facial structure and the hair buns, I'm going to guess that's supposed to be asian and not white
It doesn't really matter, because why would race semantics matter when your character design is already god-awful in the first place, but I'm just guessing

The toys look way less uncanny than the cartoon, so props to the sweatshopper who did those moulds.

I was just tired of seeing that flat-nosed ginger gormlessly smiling at me when I wanted my coffee, but it's actually refreshing to hear this. If I remember correctly, Proud Family used to be a plain old family comedy (the Dad especially), even with a few weirdly preachy episodes like the one about the homeless. This was all long, long before the recent racebsiting abomination, which I can only assume is what the creators actually wanted to make from the start.

I haven't watched TV in at least a decade and I don't have any younger family that seems to either (we play video games or outside, or watch something educational, my uncles have their shit together in thst regard), so if there isn't some freaks on Twitter moulding their identity around it like Bluey or Owl House I'll never see it.
