So, I just have to share something that made my day and proved there is a God.
But first, some context.... see, ever since the era of cartoons getting released on DVD started, there were four shows in particular I looked forward to one day owning a set for:
-Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
-Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates
-Battletech
-Mighty Max
Well okay, there were a bunch more... but all my other hopes and wishes got fulfilled. He-Man came out, Bravestarr came out, Thundercats came out... heck we were even getting DVDs of obscure stuff only cartoon nerds would remember, like WildCATs, Biker Mice From Mars, the Teen Wolf cartoon, and Spiral Zone (though Spiral Zone's DVD set was essentially a bootleg, it was still made by a fan who had somehow gotten access to broadcast masters).
For a long time, it seemed like those four were the sole holdouts.... at least, as far as "shows I cared about" were concerned. There's lots of stuff I still hope gets either a DVD or a streaming release someday, like Sectaurs Warriors of Symbion.... but those four are the ones that
mattered to me.
Most especially Fox's Peter Pan. It's a weird case, because when it was first on I remember thinking of it as the thing I sit through because I know Tiny Toons is up next... but I later stopped liking Tiny Toons and realized Peter Pan was the real treasure.
..... Anyway, I was just on Youtube and I found this channel called
Cartoon Archive. At first I thought his uploads of Fox's Peter Pan were the same VHS tape rips I had seen all over the internet... until I checked. Apparently his versions are a fan-made remaster.
Meaning that finally, Peter Pan exists in DVD quality. Which is all I ask.
............ So what about the other three holdouts?
Battletech =
someone did a fanmade remaster.
Mighty Max =
a few select episodes can be gotten in fanmade "Restored" quality. I imagine this guy is for some reason only able to work from episodes that got official VHS releases because that's the common denominator here. So most of the series is still in "you have to watch recordings people made years ago" (which to be fair those old recordings actually hold up well. Peter Pan needed a remaster because I often couldn't make out the dialogue--particularly Captain Hook's colorful soliloquies--but I never have that problem with Mighty Max).
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes = I have not heard of a remaster project or anything, but there do exist decent-quality recordings made off of television.
This channel seems to have the best quality.
Personal Bonuses:
.... I found out the other day that someone put
Mutant League on Youtube. How many of you people even
remember Mutant League? I'm betting none of you. This is a weird case for me because I recall watching it regularly as a kid, not really liking it but watching it anyway, and for years I completely forgot about it.
..... Another one... I recall on Sundays watching this show called Skysurfer Strike Force, which in my area aired on the same channel as the Megaman cartoon and the early episodes of Dragonball Z. This was one of those cases where as a kid, I thought it was retarded (a show about people who fly on surfboards just seemed lame), but then I got a bargain DVD of four episodes later and was like "Wait... this is awesome!" This was a weird case too where
almost the entire show was released on DVD... for some reason, the releases stopped when they only had four episodes left to go.
Well,
thanks to Youtube, that's been rectified. Also apparently the first season is on Amazon now (why the first but not the second is a mystery). Even better, you no longer have to pay fifty dollars for DVDs that were originally one-dollar bargain bin releases.
Question for Thread: How many of you have ever seen any of the six shows I named in this post?
Yeah I'm aware this might be an autistically long post.... but at the same time, I figure we need more positivity about western animation and less blathering on about how wokies are ruining everything. We need to remember why we love cartoons.
