Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

The show has this reputation of this little brave indy passion project that counters the evils of the corporate machine. But honestly? It has little to no substance.

You want to know something funny too? This show is like every single adult cartoon out right now, just without the generic Family guy/Big mouth art style.
  1. shock humor
  2. Hyper-sexual gay characters. (we gotta appeal to the fags and faghags watching amIright?)
  3. Cringe social commentary.
  4. Break neck pacing.
  5. One dimensional characters.
  6. Asshole main protagonist.
Also, how can Vivziepop be in her early 30's but still not grasp the concept of "show don't tell" in her writing? No shit, we don't understand Millie's character because we don't know anything about her besides three traits. She has no character outside of Moxxie, violence, and being a hick.

So, the final episode of the first season of Helluva Boss dropped and I gotta say... I have completely forgotten this series is a thing. So after a quick refresher I gotta say it's the quintessential definition of "mid tier".

The show has this reputation of this little brave indy passion project that counters the evils of the corporate machine. But honestly? It has little to no substance and with every episode it seams to become more and more immature to the point of me believing it was written when Vivzipop (the shows creator) was still a 12 year old edge lord and never bothered to update it.

I dunno, maybe I'm just not the target demographic? Anybody have any opinions on the show?

not that you two don't raise good points, but there's a dedicated thread for both Hazbin/Helluva so that this thread doesn't get derailed

The same tried and trued humor and art style used in Simpsons, Family Guy, Rick & Morty, Brickleberry or Big Mouth has ruined the entire animation industry

If it was organic like the collaborations with kazuo koike for X-Men, the blame author for wolverine snikt, moebius for silver surfer beyond, katsuhiro otomo for Batman black and white and the like, then it would've probably been better
I completly dismissed the Marvel Manga thing as a pale imitation of the real thing and never looked into it, didn't know they had actual talent like Koike and Otomo behind it. And fucking Moebius did a Silver Surfer comic?! I got to pick up all of these.

I know Nimona was mentioned here. I haven't watched it (and probably never will), but there's this one youtuber called Harriyana Hook who made a video about it. Frankly, I don't like her videos. I think most of her takes are pretty dumb, and this video would have been no different as the topic was about "female rage".
Anyway, she apparently took the video down because the movie wasn't about female rage, since the main character wasn't female. Kind of a dumb reason to take a video down, but I'm sure nothing of value was lost.

Didn't they also do Venom manga as well?

It's unsurprisingly retarded that 325 actual human beings liked that comment.

Stan was a fan of Koike and Moebius which is why he personally asked them to do it. Otomo on the other hand did one story for the Batman magazine/vignette Batman black and white issue 1 from 2003 I think. Idk bout the blame author and his wolverine comic though. I was surprised Koike didn't get a pass through Frank Miller though since Miller was the one to mainstream lone wolf and cub in the west.

The Twitter account of the movie Elemental gave a batshit insane tweet, giving a fake footage of a whole movie theater going crazy over a character that had like three minutes of screentime in the movie.

The marketing team are not doing this film any favours at all.

What the FUCK did i just watch?! Hollyjews really think their audience is retarded, not that i can blame them much for it, seeing as tickets for capeshit still sell like gangbusters.
Past was always better retroactively even if it wasn't.
The 90's were the objectivly best time in human history and i refuse to ever change my opinion on that. The 90's should've never ended and the internet should've stayed in its nerd niche, everything would have been better that way, no one can convince me that this isn't the truth.

Goddamn, i miss the 90's so fucking much...

Edit:
The 90's were the objectivly best time in human history
Okay, maybe not if you were rwandan, japanese or a s*rb.

The early aughts were still cool but it's all downhill from there, 06-07 is when shit started to forment. Sorry for all the OT sperging.
I still think 06-08 were still comfy years. 2000s in general was very comfy. Mid 2011 was when things started to go downhill and we're still in hell to this day.

since the main character wasn't female
what?
has this fuckwit even read the graphical novels this is based on?
she is a girl not some weirdo.
the book doesn't even come close to this 'female rage'
even from the trailers i can tell the movie is a big departure from the novel.
in the books
the trauma from the experiments done on her has caused her to become indifferent to human suffering and death. she doesn't understand how far is too far and the boss often has to step in to stop her. she has a reason for her character and the choices she makes
in the movie she's just a teenage girl whos an arse with shapeshifting abilitys.
the only 'female rage' here is feminist's hearing about it and being angry that the boss is a dude.

Finally got around to watching the film and I'm unsurprised there's stuff in the graphic novels not in the film because it feels massively incomplete. Motives are missing and the worlds feels shockingly underdeveloped compared to anything else there. As the trailer shows the dialogue is straight out of the awkward 90s, most obvious villain I have ever seen from their first line whose motivation seems incredibly hollow, the concept is dated back to when Shrek was original and while some stuff looks pretty the backgrounds often seem closer to that of a computer game than a film. Misses the mark on almost ever emotional beat though not always, ending moment is a profanity cut short (kids love their swears right) and overall just not at all impressive. Ensures no blame ever lies on the violent, destructive main character despite the fact that it would be kind of justified as a lashing out thing when they actually do finally show her backstory. There's lots of better children's films out there but this is just not good rather than awful.

However one of the critic sites had it at 100% which is embarrassing.

It also has over 15 minutes of credits. I was looking at the run time wondering what they'd add in and it was just credits, credits and more credits.

As for the gender stuff no clue. While she tosses in a throwaway about how she's only currently a girl at one point her default in both and past and present is female and there's no indication of anything different.

If you have to use Netflix to distract a child of the sort of age that would watch this chuck Matilda on instead.

I didn't know where else to bring this up but, Does any remember not just the show Mr. Meaty but how Nick tried to hype it up? I have very faint memories of Nick.com having a whole subsection. Maybe even another website basically a fake website not just for the show, but also for the actual Mr. Meaty restaurant as if it was a real place. It even had pages and for the mall the show took place in and the other restaurants in the food court. I honestly miss when networks Did that kind of viral marketing.

Back then, from around the start of the splat era to around the mid 2000s. The mindset that went into the company was, "what if it was a network actual kids made and ran? And yeah they sure as hell fooled my little boy brain into thinking that.
