Pros:
It's a fun enough film- the action's bouncy and energetic and there are some pretty good bits of comedy in it. I wouldn't have known it was a troon allegory if nobody had told me, which means it's more subtle than other shit Noelle's put out. Ballister and Nimona definitely make this film- they bounce off of each other really well, you can understand why they're so loyal to each other, and I'm always down for the Stressed Guy and the Chaotic Girl He Cares About character dynamic. The setting being this fusion of medieval fantasy and cyberpunk was really cool and something I don't see often. All of the character designs sans Ambrosius (his haircut sucks) look great. The voice cast is also really solid. The animation on the characters was great. They're all super expressive with both their faces and body language, and you can tell that the animators took advantage of the medium and had fun with all of the facial expressions the characters pull. It's definitely nice to see a new art style used in 3D animation, and I hope the trend of experimenting with the medium continues.
Cons:
Ballister's gay, but he's honestly got better chemistry with Nimona than he does with his love interest. I find this extremely funny because I think Noelle would break out in hives if someone told her that. Because of their minimal levels of chemistry, Bal and Ambrosius' relationship falls flat and I think people would be completely and utterly indifferent to them if Ambrosius was Ambrosia or vice versa. The worldbuilding's also pretty weak- people were stationed on top of the walls for a thousand years and nobody noticed that there were no monsters out there? They invested so much into anti-monster defenses, only for the movie to imply that absolutely none of it was necessary, which feels dumb to me- people wouldn't be doing this shit for a thousand years if they weren't seeing any sort of returns.
Biggest Con:
Nimona constantly is gunning to maim and kill and destroy property, blows up government buildings, assaults the police (who are, in their and the populace's minds, literally just trying to capture the dude who committed regicide on live TV), and generally spreads havoc and destruction wherever she goes, and then has a mental breakdown when the general public calls her a monster. Like girl, if the shoe fits, you're gonna be wearing it. Don't act like a monster and then get upset when people consider you one. This is honestly the biggest detractor of the movie- I'd probably consider it a 6.5-7/10 film if it weren't for how fucking irritating this bit is. Literally all she has to do in order to "fit in" is not cause massive amounts of property damage and bodily harm, but this is apparently too hard for her to do.
