Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I saw the /co/ thread about it and, skimming through it, I just wonder why they felt compelled to dig this IP out of the grave again.
Someone in the thread posted a pdf for the writers bible: https://files.catbox.moe/w1lzs2.pdf
Some weird takeaways include:
- Cosmo kept his annoyingly high voice *sigh*
- Poof and the dog are nowhere to be seen but the former is mentioned to appear in a later episode
- One of the kids is non-binary which feels so off for a show like this
- This is some kind of continuation? Lots of returning characters mentioned in the writers bible and a character thats very clearly adult Timmy shows up in the episode

I'm nervous about this second series because while it's got an astounding number of deep cuts, crisp animation, and seemingly course corrected kevin shit's feminist propaganda, it still has kevin shit involved Goddamn it. My fingers are crossed that Teela stays sidelined from most of the show with her sidequest with Granamyr keeping her too busy to interfere with much else. One thing that I'm curious about is how the Horde members are going to handle the borg-esque theme Hordak is doubling down on in this iteration; Mattel developed those characters as broad interpretations of horror movie monsters and not techo-slavers. Hordak is a lifter nosferatu, Grizzlor is the wolf man with rabies, Modulok is a Frankenstein-esque creation that kids can assemble, Leech is the typical swamp monster on steroids, and Mantenna was the 50's alien invader.

Literally 30 seconds into the trailer He Man gets saved by a sheboon.

Just give up your hope.

What, you mean you weren't entertained by Harely Quinn ripping ass in the batmobile and hack writers huddling around the fading legacy of Bruce Tim like the homeless around a fire barrel in winter?
Paul Dini really deserves more credit for the DCAU and its legacy. Time has only shown that Dini was the much better writer of the two. Bruce Timm mostly went on to make weird fetish works, which were arguably present since BTAS (Batman/Batgirl) but downplayed greatly. Meanwhile Dini had good works in comics and his writing for Batman Arkham Asylum and City cannot be understated.

If anything, Dini seemed to be the writer of the DCAU while Timm was a very skilled artist.

I mean ok, Dini has always been in important factor for the DCAU, having to bring Batman and its animated legacy to life, one of which creating Harley Quinn and Bane and how the two ended up being part of the Batman lore. Oh, and unrelated to the DCAU (but still related to his contributions), his writing in Clerks Animated was based

Dini pretty much carried most of the stuff he's in. You can tell when he left the Arkham games after City, that the games had a massive decline in writing quality.

The only exception that gets made is Origins, which, I will give as it did do Bane better than any game in the series and was still high quality regardless of the usual Joker stroking.

Yeah Origins was decent except for the Joker wank

Knight was fucking ass and Suicide Squad looks like shit too

Knight was better than Origins. Kevin Conroy, smoother combat, driving the Batmobile. The big thing I did like about Origins was the focus on Bruce and Alfred's relationship.

Suicide Squad should never have been made though, Knight was a solid ending and whatever came after should have been left to the audience's imaginations.

Since this is the animation thread, I feel compelled to mention there's already a great Suicide Squad story in the Arkhamverse, an animated movie called Batman Assault on Arkham that has Kevin Conroy in it and is a pretty solid story.
