Looney Tunes Movie ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’ Debuts to Boisterous Laughter at Annecy

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie had a day to remember with its premiere screening Tuesday.

It debuted during a late-night event at the Annecy Animation Festival in France, where director Pete Browngardt and Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register took the stage to introduce the movie. Centering on Looney Tunes mainstays Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up hails from Warner Bros. Animation and is aiming to hit theaters later this year, although it does not yet have an announced release date.

2D hand drawn animation is still beloved by people everywhere, people want to watch that in a landscape of blobby beanmouth CGI and movies where considerable effort is put into using CGI to produce unconvincing faux-2d animation.

I'm just saying, interest in TDTEBU itself aside, it would be nice if a 2D animated cartoon, and not some lame CGI or CGI/live-action hybrid that relies too heavily on casting A-list celebs, not only made it into theaters but was a hit.

I'm genuinely really excited for this, it's my most anticipated film this year aside from W&G: Vengeance Most Fowl.

I'm calling for TLTD in the theaters (Total Looney Tunes Domination).

gee davey
maybe god abandoned us all and we're already in hell here on earth

Was gonna post this in the recess next bell thread but it feels like it's more a gen animation topic.

I sincerely hope rocket power stays dead and forgotten by nick and doesn't get the same treatment as recess might be getting. I can imagine them doing to Sam what they did to gus. Sam was the awkward new kid who also had trouble fitting in and was kinda a nerd next to the more athletic and "cool." Kids Otto, twist and reggie. So of course that translates to "gender confusion amd disphoria on current year.

And look I'm the first to admit despite being "my show." As a kid...time has not been kind to the show. Even the title makes me cringe a bit thinking about it (they really should have gone with ocean shores like they planned.) But maybe I'm just too sentimental for my own good. If I could trust modern reboots better I'd say it does need a reboot that could fix the flaws and shortcomings of the original but modern animation reboots have not given me that benefit. They keep fucking them up time and time again.

Rocket Power was a product of its time all about that Tony Hawk "Skate Rage" from before. I don't see Nick digging its grave back up unless they're trying to modernize it with smartphones, gopros, internet influencers and whatever the fuck current bullshit they can make it hip and cool again.

Don’t think anyone has posted about it, but they gave the robot a voice:

This decision really doesn’t sit well with me. Was on the fence about this film after that animator came out and talked about DreamWorks rushing the film to fire the whole crew. This just adds fuel to the fire.

This and Rocket Power really isn't that popular. Even at the time it aired I don't remember people talking about it. Everyone was focused on Rugrats or SpongeBob.

They continuing the show lol.

I can't put my finger on it, but something about the style/animation just feels off. I'm not even kidding when I say I've seen porn artists do more accurate renditions of Totally Spies (and boy do I miss hot redheads).

I hope it doesn't get written off like the Coyote v Acme film. I actually wanted to see that.

It's definitely downgraded.

Seems like they tried to do like a Teen Titans Go version and then stopped halfway.

And this is the end result.

It's 3D animation but in that style that is immitating 2D anime. The problem is that the models wind up being lifeless and stiff even though their faces have a bajillion expressions.

It's the same issue that all other animated studios have. They either forgot or dont give a shit about WHY the show was appealing to look at and just go "oh this show has A, B, C. We can just do that again and it'll be great!" all the while lacking things like effort and talent and creativity.

I knew there was going to be voice-acting when the cast of celebrities were listed at the end of the first trailer, just wasn't expecting it to be a woman. If it's similar to how The Iron Giant and/or WALL-E did it, I can accept this odd decision.

What's the idea, I wonder? The Pines Twins in adulthood, or what? I fear what could be. Considering Hirsch is a TDS sufferer, I can only imagine a plot involving Trump...
I think they'd be hesitant to do adulthood, my suspicion is some sort of 2 year gap before bringing the characters back to the Falls. Which would work terribly so I have to expect that will be the decision if this is attempted.

The desire will be to have all the old characters back which necessitates a fairly short time gap. If forced to do it myself I'd say do it at another location and accept you lose the majority of the old characters.

They'll probably try to cram Trump in, even if bringing in wider politics is a bad idea.

I'll say this: I would hope the next season would be set during the winter, so we can finally see the town in that climate. Not that it matters that much, but hey - would be really cool.

If we had a different location, would be cool to have at least some characters like Pacifica (she can travel) or I don't know. I'm worried the influence of Steven Universe movie with the two year gap will influence Hirsch to do a two or even three year gap and do something silly.

EDIT: Another thing - how about reveal who are the twins' parents? I don't really understand cartoons that have unseen or the parents that are called "mom" and "dad" without revealed names. Such a silly concept. It doesn't influence the plot altogether, but damn, would be nice. Would be hilarious to see this concept subverted: A cartoon where the parents' name are the first thing revealed, but their offspring only appear in the second episode and are mentioned as "son" or "daughter" in the credits, and have their names revealed in the third episode. Or second season! (I'm not MATI, it's just an amusement of mine).

It'd be a nice touch but I am not certain how well it could work. The reason it was summer was because of the longer holidays. And in all honesty as it was the main difference between winter and summer in the Falls was likely having to explain the various surreal prints in the snow.

I would expect if they went to a new location the vehicle they took for Stan's sabotaging road trip would be used. Which means the possibility of some characters tagging along but I think a time skip is just going to be used to focus more on the relationship stuff at the expense of anything else. Mostly I don't think Hirsch has it in him to do a good sequel.

Could do. Honestly though it's not majorly necessary since it's not their story. I actually think the stuff with Stan was probably a better done familial relationship than the actual parental stuff in other shows like Owl House or Amphibia and I like Amphibia.

Well, right. That would depend on a lot of things: A new threat, slice of life, who would tag along, new characters etc. Who knows? Maybe he could pull along if he plays it smart and doesn't make it a teenage drama per se.

Could be anything. Mostly though my money would be it does not happen in the next 5 years and if it does it is dreadful.

Uh ffs Alex you had your prime when you first created gravity falls but then you danna went off the deep end post 2017 and now I really hope Disney denies him a gf reboot. Leave well enough along for lack of a better term.

That's also why I'm kinda hoping trump doesn't get re-elected. As bad as the Biden years have been, I don't think I could stand the media going tds crazy again because "oh no! why orange man back in office and not jail!"

I see two groups of brain dead idiots who can't think for themselves here...one are the hicks in maga hats the other is the Berkey dropouts diversity hired by the family guy staff to write this crap.
