It's fucking batshit that they just fired everyone the way they did back then. These guys helped make some of the best shows the network ever had, and they told them to fuck off. Why? just to make cheap live action crap nobody asked for. If you're curious look up The Cartoonstitute (there's some good videos about it on youtube) if you really wanna see how much of a mess CN was in the late 2000s.

I don't know much about Ouweleen but I do know that he's the co-creator of Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, which is one of my favorite [adult swim] shows. The reunion special sucked dick and the little of Birdgirl spinoff I've seen does too.

What other things has he done? It's disappointing to hear that he's actually a faggot, not that CN isn't ruining itself without him.

Wasn't Stuart Snyder the one who canned everything CN had and started new with the CNreal fiasco? You couldn't go anywhere on cartoon forums or youtube without seeing 10 links of change.org petitions to fire him. It has to be him Atoms is referring to since Ouweleen didn't rise to power until 2014, long after Grim Adventures and CNreal were off the air. If [AS] can keep that belligerent drunk Harmon still employed, they can make an exception for Atoms.

Hopefully something comes out of the new Cartoon Cartoons. CN doesn't really have any big hitters right now.

You could say that for Nickelodeon too. Both have old cash cows with dust for milk and everything that checked the right boxes this past decade had little to no monetary gains from it (no matter how many articles on the "importance" of kweer & colored kid medias they pump out). Cartoon Cartoons may be their last shot at striking rich.

In this day and age, it seems Entertainment Journalism™ regarding TV, movies or cartoons wants to pry, search and/or find some form of drama that has nothing to do with political agendas or anything of the sort to give more traction to shows that no one under the age of 18 has seen.

I start to notice it a lot more when anime was getting more popular in America over the last decade and a half. It’s usually because people that like Western Cartoons™ try to subvert what they’ve seen in Japanese cartoons and think it’s in the same league as that.

I imagine Covid hasn't helped with the production of stuff with a lot of animators having to be set up to work from home.

This sounds like something that was way before Covid was even a thing. Animation is still 'just for kids' in terms of the USA while its respected as the art form it is outside of the USA, namely Europe and Japan. In mostly the USA. I've noticed that people are getting a bit more vocal about subjects about cartoons and I would imagine that would make some production crews try to play things safe a bit too much. And we're dealing with those are who giving into those who are making things too 'safe' in terms of content for the USA. Europe and Japan are just saying 'go fucking nuts' and we get surprisingly good stuff from there like say The Wolfwalkers.
