Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Same but I’ll raise you with these Ed’s from the Cul-de-sac:

Between them and the kids they interacted with that were not the Kanker Sisters, this cartoon was ironically one of the best diverse shows to lead CN.

I’m just glad it was not rebooted, even if I sound selfish for saying it.
It had a great run and still holds up, plus Danny holds the rights. No worry about an unnecessary reboot anytime soon.

Johnny is an actual Chad, for real. He got swole all because he wanted to take some girl to the prom, that took lots of dedication. He couldn't even stretch the exercise springs at first, but he kept going until he snapped them. According to his creator, he is successful with women, just not when we see him. Furthermore, despite hard rejection after hard rejection, he never never gives up and he never blames his situation on others. He respects people who are physically inferior to him, as his best friends are his mother, a lanky nerd, and a small child. If that doesn't make him a Chad, I don't know what does.
Him being successful is even canon in the show blatantly. There's an episode where he was the "virgin sacrifice" for a volcano...which then spit him out.

So I saw this thread spread around a while. Basically saying that streaming services are incentivized to pull the plug early on shows to farm the most money. Which would make it understandable when services drop the entire season to watch in one day.

I'm curious how successful streaming or I guess unsuccessful it is that this is a working strategy.

I can understand hate watching and the IP giving velma enough numbers for a 2nd season. But I can't understand some of these other shows getting the axe.

Is hatewatching really what's carrying big mouth to 5 seasons? Are shows that are nearly universally hated able to get more viewers than something like inside job? I mean I don't think some of these shows cancelled were the pinnacle of animation but between inside job or velma/big mouth I'd ASSUME most would pick the former.
Yeah, this really depresses me so much. It feels more exploitative than even past agreements are, because at least most of the time, the studio doesn't want to just spend money to ... trick people into subscribing. They actually want shows to succeed so that people will watch and so everyone makes money. But when they don't advertise them or use them as tax write-offs, it's an unusually cruel way of using creative energy to sponge up pennies instead of working to get eyeballs on someone's art and making more money in the process. And then of course you give your actual audience trust issues because they can't afford to get attached to the write-off shows that are better quality than the hate watches.

The publishing industry has a similar problem, where all the marketing and advances go to guaranteed sells from big names (or even hate reads like politicians' and royals' memoirs), and small authors have to do the marketing for their own books. At which point, it becomes clear to many small writers that they would actually be better off going independent because they are doing the same amount of extra work either way.

For me I been trying to think what cartoon female character have I seen in recent years who wasnt lesbian or bisexual and was just plain straight?
Milo Murphy's Law, same creators as Phineas and Ferb. Melissa is definitely a main character, and Amanda is a pretty great side character. Melissa has a very subtle interest in the other main character, Zack, but Milo/Amanda was more in-your-face and very cute.

Here he says that modern cartoons are "writer shows".
Question: What does he mean by ‘writer shows’?

Even saying it'd be an, "uwu uwu cutie lesbian version of the relationship their dads have tee hee"
Why are these people so obsessed with cute?

I mean, I know the majority of them are a bunch of ugly tards but good lord, get a grip!

Probably the same thing John K meant when he said something similar. The art is subordinate to the writers who think they run the joint. And they're stuffed to the gills with wokeshit.
Of course, the key difference here is that Danny Antonucci actually knows how to come up with good stories, while Johnny Boy just thinks throwing a bunch of shit together automatically makes cartoon gold.
