Also it excels in atmosphere.
I know that's a weird complement, but it makes me fiercely miss shit like old YouTube sketches where some dude would just go outside and either dress up and do crazy shit or animate that crazy shit over him going outside (that one short about render time that I think maybe Smosh made comes to mind but I'm sure there were more). The way it's lit and shot makes it feel very mundane, to a charming degree, meanwhile you're almost always seeing some of the craziest shit there. Stuff like a talking cat befriending
an angel hiding within a peanut girl with antlers whom he has a crush on while his brother (who is a fish with legs) tells him it's a bad idea to try and seduce her with puns, for instance. (I don't think this actually happened in the show, it's just an example)
I love that kind of stuff, and Gumball is super appealing to me as a result. Regular Show has a similar effect but loses a bit of the realistic charm by being fully animated (this is not a bad thing; it just doesn't lean as heavily on that aesthetic specifically, which is okay).
I kind of wish the show itself was a bit less hyperactive so I could just sit back and appreciate the style, but meh.
Posting some screenshots because mwah.
