Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Captain Lazerhawk came out and was somehow even shittier than I expected. The pajeet self insert protagonist is in love with an older bear who betrays him and the plot is so horrifically self serious for what is meant to be a synthwave retarded crossover that the only thing I can think to call it is Edgerunners for faggots.

It's also incredibly disrespectful to the IPs and characters it chooses to include. To the point where I'm stunned Ubisoft was even okay with it. Rayman does coke, Jade gets murdered in the second episode, and absolutely nobody has any of their voice actors from the games or designs even remotely close. What is the point of a crossover if none of the characters involved remotely resemble their source material?

Anyone hoping for a decent or respectful DMC anime from this guy should really expect the worst.

I watched that new Johnny Cage Mortal Kombat movie; was a pretty fun ride, had that fun 80's energy and most of the jokes got a chuckle from me. Did not expect Johnny vs Demon Gilfred Godfrey.
Huh, I guess I might check that out sometime

I thought that image of Rayman eating sushi off a naked furry's body was just some weird porn, not a frame from an actual licensed production.
I was going to say "the strangest part is that you can't blame France for this, it's American" but imagine my shock when I look it up and it turns out that the same frogs that made Peepoodo were involved. BALAK!!!

I think you can still see people complaining about it in the comments, especially since his argument was 'I don't have to explain why this is racist, but if you can't see it, I don't want you as a fan'.
I love that wording, because apparently if you're unable to see the connection between cave dwelling monsters and minorities, you're just a bad person and he wants nothing to do with you. Like a lack of understanding the correlation makes you bad rather than just not being bothered by it.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I feel bad for the kids of today. They can't have anything pure.

Taken in a complete vacuum it's a very "eh" show, something's off with it but you can't tell in a vacuum. But a show like this cannot be taken in a vacuum, it has that same sinking feeling of "we've been stuck in a cultural loop for the past 15-20 years feasting on regurgitated and mutated remnants of the past" that is in the DNA of a lot of modern media. It's absolute dogshit when you look at it that way.

Should anyone expect anything decent from the man responsible for this video?

The Blood Dragon cartoon looks like a gay man's Suicide Squad ripoff, meets the last gasp of the most watered down iteration of the McFlurry Color Palette Synthwave Soundtrack 80s pastiche aesthetic that became more boring with each attempt by hacks at leaping upon that particular bandwagon when it was still a going concern. Was anyone really wanting more FC: Blood Dragon related content in the Current Year?

There was a time I wouldn't have minded a sequel for Blood Dragon but we live in a post-Forspoken world and now the prospect of more media written like Blood Dragon annoys me.

What really fucks me up is that it's not even a good version of that, because despite generally hating this kind of show I have played a lot of the games and have a bit of an attachment to the characters involved and could see the appeal. But they weren't even the characters in question outside of their names, Rayman is the only one with a remotely authentic design to his videogame counterpart which makes him, despite the blasphemous portrayal, a highlight.

I think it really hit me with the second episode where Pagan Min is the antagonist and I was like, oh yeah that's actually a great idea. He's flamboyant and charismatic as a villain, he has an iconic voice, you could totally slot him in as a crime kingpin in a cyberpunk city and have it work. Then he shows up and he looks nothing like Pagan, acts nothing like Pagan, and certainly doesn't sound like Pagan (Say what you will about Troy Baker but he did nail Min, I'd say it's one of his better understated performances) and I'm left feeling like what is even the fucking point?

It's not just cultural rot it's like cultural vandalism.

It's not just cultural rot it's like cultural vandalism.
You can take it both ways; it is just cultural rot where the producers of this shit don't care beyond just rehashing tropes and cliches and mashing licenses together to a make product to sell, or it is cultural rot and cultural vandalism where someone or some people are using franchises to as a framework for their crappy plot.

I mean, I try not to get mad about these things, the cool kids have taken over geek franchises and helm the future of those franchises.

How the fuck did they turn Far Cry Blood Dragon from a good Far Cry 3 spinoff into a animated movie(?) full of furfags, pulling some sort of even more autistic spiderverse ripoff? Who came up with this idea in the first place? It's not like Blood Dragon's even an established IP, it was a singular, essentially standalone DLC for an even older game released over a decade ago now. I'm so confused.

I got reminded of Comedy Central's TV Funhouse which led to be bingewatching it tonight. I love Robert Smigel. He doesn’t get enough credit he was defining the adult stoner cartoon humor that has probably rotted my brain but damnit shit makes me laugh so hard.
Click here for a playlist for all 8 episodes. And just a warning this wasn't a perfect series, some of the live action skits can overstay its welcome. But the actual cartoons and short films are just excellent. I love how Smigel's Funhouse shorts try to replicate the style of the cartoons they're parodying.
This looks so much like what it's parodying Shazzan what a true care for detail. I would like Family Guy so much more if the cutaway jokes led to different animation styles like this. No offense @TVB, I just really hate Seth's artsyle it's so damn boring to look at.

I think it was also partially cause Archie comics were meant for women, it was a weird combination of newspaper comic combined with the anime love triangle tsundere story which was something really new for the west at the time. As much as women say they were always part of comicdom, they only almost always read Archie and nothing else. Im sure most of them wanted to fuck him as well or found themselves on either girls side. Archie did have a lot of porn though @TVB now that I remember, I even think Cherry Darling was an attempt by Robert Crumb to make a version of Archie for more counter culture audiences.
I never saw Archie as being attractive.

This shit was like edge runners but worse. Ubisoft can make all these shitty references, but can't bring the other IPs. I feel bad for that upcoming DMC animated show that got that same Indian shit eater as producer. I couldn't even sit through the later episodes, it was so boring I had to skim through it. Just boring slop that no one will remember

That Shazzam parody is especially good in it's use of making the kids go through puberty during this carnage. It feels like a MAD Magazine kind of gag.

And of course my favorite...

Forgive my mad at the internet spergout, but I don't watch Family Guy, how many times do I have to tell you, because I have a Peter Griffin pfp?? Fuck's sake, there are literally other people with Family Guy pfps in the Farms, do not ping me.
