Did you guys know that Pixar was making a magical girl movie at one point? And it got cancelled in favor of Elio?

Glad they cancelled it. It feels like a Steven universe inspired aesthetic and considering this is modern Pixar, it's gonna be hecking queer™
Do you think they'll try to revive this, since kpop demon hunters is a success? 🤔 (I'm surprised that movie was not super obnoxious as I thought it would be. The girls are heterosexual there, very surprising)

Also, it was today that I learned The Adventures of Milo and Otis was made in Japan.
All I know about that film is that the OG Nip version had a nice Ryuichi Sakamoto-scored soundtrack. No idea why Milo & Otis didn't retain it, well at least most of it...

Much of a possibility for that happening as 'Newt' being revived.

Maybe but I'm not going to dis Fritz the Cat. It gave us this marvelous deconstruction of 2020s SJW-ism as it related to dumb white chicks, somehow, 50 or so years early.
Two things I always took away from that scene.

1. The last "dumb chick" admitting she's a jew is what broke the spade crows patience, and silence.

2. The mannerisms and way he talks when he does finally speak show he's gayer than a 3 dollar bill.

But back to the topic at hand.

Adult animation has stagnanted majorly since the 80s. As John "mrenter" rozanski said. "It's all sex comedies with no variety, maybe a sub genre like sci-fi.

This movie felt like one hell of a fever dream I had when I was younger that I forgot about until now.
A foreign animated film made in Denmark that was a box office disaster ($101 Mil budget, only brought back $5.6 Mil). I remember my Grandma renting this as a DVD to watch and was surprised over how good this looked despite not being from any big name companies I recognized then.

I keep meaning to watch that, someone had posted it on YouTube in full and I downloaded it. I do love the catchy song they had in the marketing/credits though:

(doublepost because I jumped the gun with my last comment)
Do they ever revive movies they've shown concept art for? It's like that Dreamworks "me and my shadow" one, once the concept art is out, they never revisit it. Once it's not a tightly kept secret they lose all interest.

I am so, SO goddamned sick of this trend of “draw the Incredible Hulk, slap a dress on it, call it a heckin’ valid woman” that everyone and their brother has been doing since 2020 or so. They don’t even add secondary sex characteristics or bother to feminize the model in any way.

At least in the art that's in the thumbnail, the beefy girl has boobs.

No guarantee they would've gone with that design, but she does remind me of Luisa from Encanto, who also has boobs and a waist despite being a beefy girl:

So maybe they would've made "Matinee" a little less wall-shaped in the final product.

Damn, that could have been great. Sakamoto does great scores (well did RIP).
One more Japanese flick from the '90s that I liked:

I couldn't remember the title until I fed my recollection of the plot to ChatGPT.

30 years later, nothing can compare to this.
Watching this on Liquid Television fucked my 10-year-old brain right up. Likewise when they put on Kawajiri's The Running Man.

Yup, that's the one that did it for me when I was a kid, too.
"Soon after his last race, they shut down the Circus. Nobody seemed to mind. Maybe they'd finally seen what they had been coming to see all those years."
