Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It's the The Mitchells vs. the Machines eyes that bug the shit out of me. Doesn't matter that they're Koreans so they only have like one eye shape and iris color, but still, stop doing the "tennis balls with marker dots for pupils" eyes.
That’s a pretty apt comparison, but a funny one nonetheless. It’s as if they tried to really make an anime out of it, while using the elements that made Spider Man: Into The Universe popular. To me, it just comes off as uncanny, even if it was not intended to be.

I don’t know if it’s appropriate to post on here since it is (technically) Korean-based, but I really am tempted to watch K-Pop Demon Hunters. However, while looking at these stills out of context:

I can’t help but pull a Frank Reynolds every time I look at this:

I guess it’s understandable that it’s overreliance of wild take can be jarring for some people, but if you ignore that aspect, this animation is, dare I say, kino.

Also, the pic of Rumi smelling kimbop amused me due to its meme potential.

Edit: Also, surprised that KPop demon hunter doesn’t have a thread already.

Not sure if this would be good to post here as this is a /v/ topic that crosses into /co/, but, a certain someone may have been leaked to return next year…

So I watched it and I think a couple of things are going on that make it look like that

1. The animators really wanted to have fun with everything and make the animation hyper-kinetic.
2. Female K-pop stars have such a manufactured and "perfect" image that every time the girls are out of the limelight they goof off like retarded gremlins.

Honestly the most unrealistic part of the movie is that the girls are allowed to eat food at all.

Oh nooooooo not the artistic integrity of Tak and the Power of JuJu........

Shit was up there with Angela Anaconda for "ugliest shit on television", immediate change-the-channel material.

Nigga forget the AI voices, this shit is getting the Disney Remake treatment of stripping the cultural references behind African voodoo stuff and making it "more appropriate". Literal current year revision shit for an okay 3D platformer collectathon.

When did Voodoo become America’s Sacred Cow? I always assumed that maybe a handful of blacks practiced it, if that. Part of me feels like it’s less the backs making a fuss, and more Big City White Liberal Chicks and their simps making a fuss on behalf of blacks.
Huh. I assumed that the entire concept was too hot to handle these days.
Well, money always talks!

I used to play the first and second game a lot as a kid, I would rather it just stay dead, then trust any studio these days to touch it. Nowadays revivals and sequels are a lot like the Monkey Paw, you’ll get it, but more likely than not you won’t like it.

It was originally a video game series and was surprisingly decent for a Nickelodeon 3D platformer. The show was awful, but the original series it came after was a hidden gem of the sixth generation.

Tak isn't even based on Africans. Looking it up, he seems to take more from South America - Mayan, Aztec, and Andean cultures being amongst the ones listed.

Ok, so this proves that its the Chicks and the Simps in LA making a mountain out of the Molehill then. Though it is kinda funny thinking about it. The way to make a South American Hero more appealing to the masses, is to give him dreads. Cause dreads are South American.

He doesn't have dreds though...

First game is like a bowl cut and the rest are pretty standard hair....

He is the ultimate vaguely indigenous character. Sad he is now the poster child of "cultural appropriation" as his games were good and the team behind them clearly had a lot of respect and passion for him. Sucks Nickelodeon ended up creating the disaster that was his animated series - the project was a cool concept having a hybrid series of tv/gaming where the shows and games would come out alongside each other. Unfortunately, the show went through development hell, becoming worse and missing the window of the trilogy to really leave an impact.

Given the way the film was structured with individual stories, it probably made sense to give it more context in the dub.

God, being at the forefront of the 80s/90s anime wave in the US was something else. Robot Carnival and Vampire Hunter D on the Sci-Fi channel on weekend afternoons when I was in elementary school. Neo Tokyo on MTV late at night when I was in middle school. And then Memories being the hot thing passed around amongst the anime nerds in high school back when DVDs were starting to become more popular. They all hit different parts of my brain in different ways. And then there was the thrill of catching unedited anime randomly on channels like IFC. MD Geist blew my mind the first time I saw it on there. I was going to wax poetical about how it's a shame that nothing is truly "alien" for kids today, but it came out sounding too faggy and boomerish. Instead, enjoy the first "anime music video" most of us back then ever saw.
