I was never a fan of Total Drama, but this is a load of bullshit. Everyone involved with this conception needs to be dragged out into the streets and shot.
What's the worst that could come of this? Actually, what's the best that could come of this?
Saw Ferdinand and was disappointed. Like I didn't really mind it and was finding it medicore at best, then I actually dug the idea of there being a slaughterhouse near the training area where they show one of the bulls being carted off there simply because he was useless as a bull. It's a pretty dark concept, but I thought it was a nice touch. Too bad they fucked it up later, making the scene where Ferdinand was lending a compassionate ear to one of the other bulls who was upset his friend was gone (as well as the struggle in which he has to choose whether to participate in bullfighting or become beef) completely pointless.
I also feel the film was sending a mixed message or something, as it felt like later on they were going to basically tell us that bullfighting is wrong and inhumane and how dare the Spanish culture allow this to happen, and that clashed during the climax with Ferdinand facing the bullfighter in a nicely-subverted manner and him getting a bit of a change of heart (I guess) as the audience told the guy "Let him live!" Outside of thinking maybe the audience just wanted to see more of Ferdinand in later bullfights, that scene in particular made me think there was a missed opportunity to have made this be a story of Ferdinand and his relationship with the bullfighter or some other human that attempted to raise him for the ring. At least then they could've still kept the spirit of the story or moral they wanted to tell (and kept the scene where Ferdinand discovers the wall of bull horns), as well as be a little more unique on top of it.
I dunno. I wasn't really looking forward to the film anyway so I didn't have high expectations, but I like Blue Sky Studios despite their faults. This is just not one of their best films. At the very least, John Cena made for a convincing bull, and so I don't object to him getting more voice-acting roles.
Also Lupe the goat's design bothered me a bit. She looked like she was pregnant, but she wasn't, she was just fat. She was also kinda pointless as a character, honestly. They tried to give her a coaching role and be the comedic relief on top of it, but she felt so out of place that it got irritating at times how often she killed the mood. Least she wasn't the completely useless placeholder that was Nina. Now that was a character who clearly wasn't needed.

I haven't seen Coco, the Olaf short that accompanies it is keeping me from seeing it in theaters. I haven't been checking up on it to see if it was doing well in the box office, but I've heard some whispers people were confused to see a Disney short in front of a Pixar movie.Thank you - for another bullet dodged. But what about CoCo??? Asking because I'm just curious.
Thing is, the film actually did adapt faithfully what was the original story (minus the mother as it was the father instead, the matador was the one who wanted a bull, and he picked Ferdinand when he broke another bull's horn when the two got in a fight). Unfortunately, there had to be padding in between all of that and what they came up with was… ehhh…So to sum it up, Blue Sky couldn't do in 90 minutes what Disney managed to do in just 8?

It really was just disappointing that they had all of this free space and squandered it instead, even with some brilliants spot of sunshine here and there. Although even if there was a complete rewrite, I wouldn't mind if they kept the super gay German horses. The dance-off was just not all that necessary, though.
I'm down for anything Wes Anderson does, and Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my favorite animated movies. Yeah, I'll probably see it when it comes to where I live.HYYYYYYPE
