The show is pretty much the characters do stuff, eventually something important happens (e.g. plot, minor change, etc)
Then the next episode they go back to doing stuff without much changing.

Well, that explains why this show never really took off, besides the weak overall presentation, especially when compared to the pilot, which actually had a sense of style, at least IMHO.
 
Found out The Walking Dead sampled this cartoon in a recent episode. On it's own, it's pretty good, but it was a product of better times!

This though was the very first Cruikshank film I watched as a 4 year old since Nickelodeon used to run this one a lot in their early years.

She tried to make a movie once using her characters in the late 70's, but this was all that was made about it.

I just watched the quasi videos, and they're amazing. The audio quality isn't that great, but these are kinda old so I won't hold it against them. Thanks for the vids!

The thing about Famous Studios cartoons is that they have pretty good animation....it's just the writing is just formulaic. Every cartoon is the same when in its separate series.

This one is no different.

The studio executives actually encouraged that. If something got a good response in one film, the executives ordered it to be used in more films from the same series.
 
Not to doube post too quickly, but noticed someone uploaded some episodes of this, the TV adaptation of Grabrielle Vincent's Ernest & Celestine from a couple years back. Unlike the movie which told a story different from the books it came from, this series created it's own universe closer to the books, but still it's own thing. The animation utilized happens to be CGI models with a 2D skin. The series has seen airings around the world, mostly on channels catered to preschool stuff, though it hasn't aired yet in the US to my knowledge.

Apparently that was all to avoid the risk of going bankrupt, just like Fleischer Studios did. They were working at such a cheap budget that there was a legitimate fear of trying something different, only for it to fail hard. I will admit though, it has given Popeye a fairly bad rap due to the studio's encouragement for formulaic stories.
 
Nickelodeon's Glitch Techs looks to be going to Netflix. Good God, first Invader Zim then Rocko. At least Cartoon Network airs the shows on their own channel.
 
Well, the Rocko movie is out.

If you really wanted to know what I think, being a huge fan of the original show... I loved it. There were some really good jokes in it - I loved Heffer's grandpa possessing a lawn gnome ("AGAIN!")

Of course everyone's heard that Ralph Bighead's gone transgender, but I think they handled it pretty well. (I should note that the word "transgender" is never even uttered in the film.) It didn't really take up much of the film and tied into the film's point, about accepting change and needing to move on from the past.

I also loved how everybody was brought back - Bloaty and Squirmy, Gordon Foot, the Chameleon Brothers... But there was no Wacky Delly, so that's a minus against it.

The animation, of course, was top notch and the voice acting was great. They've all still got it.

Overall I really enjoyed it, though I think they could have gone a bit farther with the satire.

Actually, the Mayonnaise makes a quick appearance in the Bigheads' fridge at one point.
