Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Aaand Long Gone Gulch already has a cancel fandom. Apparently the native american chick is just too sexy and that's problematic. It's literally killing native women as we speak!!!
I'm liking LGG, it's not poi-fect, good, not great, but good.

Haven't seen as much of the insane hatred and demands for cancellation for Long Gone Gulch as we have some other projects, like Hazbin Hotel, but it's there. If there wasn't an Indian character these people would be asking why there wasn't one and calling it "Native American erasure".

First two seasons of The Animaniacs are the best thing to come out of that show from 1993.

I have no clue what made them want to reboot this, while stripping away all of the entertaining qualities that made Wakko, Yakko and Dot shine.

I just pretend that Dot rule34 art does not exist.

They even fucked up Pinky and The Brain by making a new female mouse.

4chan’s /co/ board has been messing with this A.I. bot that lets you do text to speech with your favorite characters. It ranges from the likes of Spongebob to Daria, to even Team Fortress 2 and Portal.
Yeah, we've been having a bit of fun with that over in the Steven Universe thread:

It seem like some recording of Stevens' VA fooling around in the recording studio has been leaked.

I’m guessing it doesn’t work properly on mobile? I can’t get sound out of it.

Looks like our old friend Alex Hirsch is getting cancelled over this tweet from years ago

Anyone remembers Disenchantment? I've heard there's a new season, and from the little I've seen of the first season, it's just plain bad.
It's like the show is 20 years too late to do a subversion of fantasy tropes.
I remember looking forward to it, but I've never even seen a single episode. It's like you said, it's far too late for fantasy subversions. Monty Python was doing that shit yonks ago already.

2010s animation is still largely building off what was developed in the 90s. I wouldn't call it a renaissance so much as a very fertile period.

To some extent this is true at least for CN, I'm not a 90's kid nor did I watch a lot of Nick growing up, but shows like adventure time, regular show, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls were a big thing when they came out and arguably changed how a lot of people viewed cartoons. I cant argue the similarities/nor whether or not 90s were more popular, but for better or for worse most cartoons these days want to be like cartoons of the 2010's.

There's an argument that none of them will achieve what SU or GF had either, because they were really creator-driven shows and based heavily on personal histories in the case of the former which lends multiple layers of sincerity to the whole process. Still, I'm optimistic about the future of animation and hope that shows like Infinity Train can secure more seasons so they can continue to tell interesting stories. Oh, and more wacky non-serialized cartoons too. No need to settle on just one type of cartoon.

I’m starting to think the actual future of animation might lie with independent animated features, if the popularity of Hazbin Hotel and Long Gone Gulch is anything to go by. If you think about it, that’s basically creator driven cartoons in it’s most distilled form. Plus I’d be glad if animation followed that trajectory rather than just trying to be the new AT/SU/GF.

Side note, I never understood why people worried for wacky nonserialized cartoons. That genre of animation will outlive us all.

It definitely seems like you can bypass a lot of the usual bullshit red tape by going independent. You're not wrong about people chasing their own dreams instead of being the next "darling of previous years" either.

It's easier now than it was in the old days, but we've got a long way to go before we get to the point where independent stuff can compete.

I think we might already be there; Helluva Boss’s two episodes are easily on par with what you see on TV and Long Gone Gulch’s pilot is also TV quality.

It’s pretty amazing, especially if you remember that two decades ago, web animation was synonymous with Machinama and Newgrounds flash.
