"Depeche Mod" makes me think of pseudo intellectualism.
It makes me think of fun music, I don't know what faggot listens to their music for some deeper philosophical meaning. Shit's a bop and if you take it beyond that you're a retard.
I happen to like Dragonforce. Mostly because I find them amusing and they don't take themselves seriously. At all. Their new album that came out yesterday is pretty fun, IMO.
Some of the members of Dragonforce made... interesting material before they formed.
Sheesh, I can't tell if this is a shitpost or you're living up to your username, but True Metal refers to the following:
- Heavy Metal (especially the NWOBHM) which is everything from Black Sabbath to Judas Priest to Manowar and Dio. Heavy Metal is NOT HARD ROCK, so while those previously mentioned bands are Metal, others commonly considered Metal are not.
- Speed Metal
- Power Metal
- Thrash Metal
- Death Metal
- Black Metal
Everything outside of these is up for debate, but you're mostly on target. From what you've posted, I'll tell you that G'n'R is Hard Rock, NIN and Marilyn Manson are both Industrial Rock, Staind and Alter Bridge are both Post-Grunge, Deftones and Godsmack are both Nü-Metal, APC and Cold are both Hard Alternative, and Meshuggah stopped being Metal after the first album.
AiC, SYL, Dream Theater and Metallica are all Metal. Glam is debatable. Stuff like W.A.S.P., Twisted Sister, Mötley Crüe, Dokken, London or Stryper are all Metal whereas Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd, Great White, Cinderella, Britny Fox and Kix are not.
Here's an issue with lumping NIИ into a single genre. Trent's work spreads across multiple genres, and sometimes a single album can be all over the place.
For example, his very first album, Pretty Hate Machine, is just pop. The Broken EP is definitely industrial metal, but then his opus magnum, The Downward Spiral, may be mostly industrial metal, but then you have A Warm Place in between all the other tracks, which is more of an ambient track
that he shamelessly ripped off of David Bowie's Crystal Japan and doesn't fit that category of the album being industrial metal.
Let's keep going. The Fragile is getting more lightweight tracks like La Mer, With Teeth gets even more electronic, so does Year Zero, then Ghosts I-IV is just instrumental ambient tracks, and then with The Slip you get more electro rock than you get industral rock, with tracks like 1,000,000 and Discipline. You can't assign the entirety of Trent's creative output a single genre label, because that's very stupid and narrow minded.
And speaking of narrow minded labels, nu metal. People hate it, people say it's not metal, and a shitton of bands from the 90's and 2000's got lumped under that name. But I want someone to tell me, between Slipknot, Mudvayne, Static-X, Disturbed, Korn and Linkin Park, what is the one musical element they all have in common that makes them nu metal? Because each of those bands has a very distinct sound to them.
Slipknot is heavily layered due to having nine members, and their first two albums were nothing like other nu metal bands of the time. Even Slipknot doesn't feel like the nu metal label fits them because they played something completely different from other bands at the time, but it just so happened that they came to be around that time.
Mudvayne has a much more complex sound to them, mainly thanks to Ryan Martinie being a bass virtuoso and the band playing with polyrhythms. L.D. 50 is very unique and nothing like Slipknot's S/T or Iowa, even if L.D. 50 was produced by Shawn Crahan.
Static-X was leaning much more into the industrial metal genre, much like Rob Zombie. The sound wasn't complex, but it was fun, because Wayne and co wanted to make fun stuff.
Disturbed is an interesting example. About every other band had some sort of noticeable electronic element to them. Slipknot has Sid's scratching and Craig's samples, Mudvayne has samples, Static-X has samples, but Disturbed has nothing, it's all vocals and regular instruments. What makes them nu metal? The rhythmic guitar playing?
Korn is Korn, they sorta started nu metal with their S/T, and it's a distinctive sound. Is this true nu metal? Why do other nu metal bands sound different than Korn?
And finally Linkin Park. Linkin Park was more electronic music than metal, and their debut album's title referred to that, Hybrid Theory, a hard mix of metal and electronic. Here, the electronic part is much much more present than in the previous examples.
Okay, Limp Bizkit. There is a genre of rap metal, which Limp Bizkit is the main example of. Notice how Fred's rapping was very prominent, but a lot of nu metal bands didn't do rapping, but rather your typical metal lyrics and metal growls, such as Corey Taylor tearing his vocal chords on Surfacing. What's the difference between rap metal and nu metal then?
Also Limp Bizkit was only hated because of Fred, Wes Borland, John Otto and DJ Lethal are good musicians. Fred isn't, but they got slack because of Fred, in the same way how Joey Jordison is being laughed at by metal purists for his association with the nu metal label, where you'll have faggots skipping him from best drummers lists because of that.
Now let's address the main issue with all of this. All the nu metal bands didn't have a single style or element with them in common, like you'd have with other metal genres like thrash metal. Those so-called "nu metal" bands were all over the place in terms of music genres, yet they all got lumped into this one label, and then this one label got demonized by everyone, and people discredit a lot of bands purely due to that association.
Do you see the fucking issue here. People are judging music not by what it is, but by what it's classified as. Oh Slipknot is nu metal therefore I won't even listen to it because it's shit. Oh Mudvyane is nu metal therefore I won't listen to it because it's shit.
You're a fucking retard if you judge music purely by the genre label. You know what the genre label is there for? It's for
loosely classifying a specific style of music so that you can easily find other bands that make things that the band you like does. The issue with metal labels is that metal purists use it as the ultimate classifier of what's good and what's not, and they just fight over which band plays which genre and which genre is good or bad, instead of, you know,
listening to music and enjoying it because bands play the music for people to enjoy it.
Seriously, metal purists are some of the most miserable bastards there are. They're like /v/ fags that don't actually play vidya, and they in fact hate it and only find enjoyment in hating it, and making sure that they sour the hobby for others with their bitching.
Stop judging music by it's genre label and enjoy it for what it is.
I once had someone introduce me to "furry music" and now we aren't friends anymore because it didn't even sound good and it was just about fucking other furries and it made me mad that he thought I'd like really badly made furry sex music.
The only "furry music" that I know of is shit made by Lapfox Trax. He had a bunch of different "musician fursonas" for different genres, and if you remember YTP's of the olden days, you might've heard YTP remixes of one of his tracks:
The "penis music" meme is also one of his works:
But really, for the most part he kept the furry shit out of his music and just made electronic music of different genres. Also he's Canadian and he trooned out, and besides the YTP fads he's mostly irrelevant. Also he has a history of being a rapist. lol. lmfao even.
Okay, there's also Mittsies, he did the soundtrack for the Helltaker game.
Here he basically does no direct references to furry shit in his works, even though his older works was of... questionable nature.
Don't ask me how I know.
Still, is this furry music? Is all music made by furries is furry music? What makes this genre of music different from others? What musical elements make it different from trance, ambient, techno, speedcore, chiptune and all the other electronic music genres under the sun? A genre label has to hold a meaning of the musical style in the tracks it's applied to, otherwise it's meaningless, like the nu metal one.
