This is some of the most dreadfully fucking boring character design I've ever seen for a main cast in any form of media. For something called "Final Fantasy", it sure as hell doesn't feel very fantastical. It's so dull that it actually makes me feel uninclined to play the game because it makes it look horribly uninteresting.

Compare this to the ninth entry in the series, which is often derided as "kiddy", but you sure as hell can't call it boring.

Doesn't help that in this so called "Final Fantasy" these Hot Topic boy band characters have smartphones; they're mostly driving a car everywhere; have Coleman brand tents; and one of the characters saying "#SorryNotSorry," I kid you not. Really gives off that fantastical atmosphere...

It's sad when the most distinctive character is the titty mechanic. Why do they all have to wear black anyway?

For the record, I kind of do dislike Amaranth's design because for the longest time, I was trying to figure out what the hell he's suppose to look like. He seems to only pose in profile.

Most of the cast of RWBY is designed bad, (except for Yang,) but Ruby herself is one of the worst. Too much black and red with not enough white. They redesign her later but even then she just looks like an edgy Deviantart OC. The show in general has really ugly CGI and I wish it was animated instead of made in MMD.

Am I the only one that doesn’t have a problem with this? It’s going to have the same standards for anime that every other American “anime” has. Fucking none. It’s Crunchyroll trying to bring in new audiences and to the extent, new revenue (and despite how much the MovieBob thread will say otherwise, that is not a bad thing). Though the attention-seeking-haircut character does look pretty bad, and that’s because I hate dyed-hair-color designs anyway.

I think a lot of the hate comes from people who don't want the money they gave Crunchyroll to go to this. A lot of the people who are paying for Crunchyroll have the option to pirate but pay because they want their money to support the "anime industry" and possibly help get shows subbed that otherwise would be ignored. To hear that the money they gave them is going into a crappy cartoon instead of in the pockets of studios they want to support or helping Crunchyroll get the rights to sub anime they care about is upsetting.

Of course Crunchyroll is a garbage site and I'm glad people are shitting on them, fuck them for killing the fansubbing community, and producing soulless bare bones subs. Until they start putting some effort into their subs or sub some great 70s anime I'm not giving them a dime

Personally, I don’t see Cal-Arts. I see more of a low-budget 80s anime. Especially in the Pink-Haired one.
Kind of like the Steven Universe pilot (which was superior to the show we got in every conceivable way).

In addition to the humans looking like they came from Cubix, it's also very apparent the people who put this together didn't give a fuck about the backgrounds. Why is there no track underneath the boxcar and why does the boxcar look like a wooden cabin? For a comparison here's a boxcar from Thomas and Friends:

Given the budget for the Boxcar Children was the same as the Thomas and Friends Movies there's really no reason for this kind of laziness
