What Are The Worst Character Designs You Have Ever Seen?

In my opinion yes, especially because of the story and the dialogues. Everything is so...surreal, and badly structured and lacking of continuity and preachy and ridiculous. 4 episodes were aired before the network called it quits, because the audience ratings were abismal, too low for a series that costed more than 20 million euros and needed 10 years of work to be done. If some of you are morbidly curious, you can find one episode, with English subs, on Dailymotion.
Damn, well glad it was put out of it's misery anyway.

"Simba the King Lion" always got on my nerves. Not only for the cheap animation made in a North-Korean studio, not only for the blatant plagiarism of 10k of different stories (The Jungle Book, Jungle Taitei, Hokuto no Ken, Bambi...) but also for the character design that showed that the animators never saw a lion cub in their life:

I mean, it looks like a bear. Then probably they realized that cub Simba didn't look like a lion, so adult Simba is basically a tracing of Simba from The Lion King:

To be honest, these are exactly the kind of character designs I expect from an animation studio in North Korea.

Most of their cartoons are this way, no UPA/contemporary designs or experimentation here!

They have gotten cheaper-looking in recent years, no doubt following trends of the west.

EDIT: Honestly, a cartoon like "Adrian" wouldn't even be made domestically as animation is still viewed as a children's medium in the DPRK and less an outlet for more mature and artistic visions. Apparently this was what led to a rather silly situation of the animators finding it difficult to draw naked bodies for Rene Laloux's "Gandahar" without giggling I've read.

I have something to contribute

I know this is kinda low hanging fruit, after all, the creator of this webcomic is a tranny sjw who believes that everything she makes is a masterpiece, but I fucking hate this thing with a passion.

Theres so much I could post about this piece of shit but instead of doing that I'll show you all some 'highlights'.

Btw, she doesn't improve.

At all.

I swear, she actually gets worse.

EDIT: I just realise I didn't exactly say why I thought the designs were bad. Whoops.

Its bland, and I swear to god she's ripping off Azumanga Daioh, and probably a bunch of other anime shit too, but specifically this one. Why am I so focused on this one? Because she has the most detailed authors notes for just about every page of this thing and has mentioned it quite a few times in relation to her own stuff.

I recall seeing a tranny at Anime North cosplaying Rain and holding up a sign basically advertising the comic.

Speaking of bad designs- I’ll be pointing at Kannazuki no Miko.

For reasons I cannot quite put my finger on, I really don’t like the art style- it’s really bland in my opinion.

They used to show this on the Irish language channel when I was a kid. I watched it because it was almost identical to an anime-ish adaptation of the Jungle Book I loved which was actually pretty good. The character designs for Shere Khan, the mother wolf and Tabacqui are exactly the same, the only difference is the animation quality.

Yeah, that original series wasn't bad at all from what I had seen on Christian TV channels back in the 90's. At least that show was produced in Japan.

It's a little weird though to go from that to this...

Winx Club was a mistake.
Wait till there's Season 8.

Mind you, there are no plans for any reboot of Winx Club. They straight up renewed for a new season in a new style to celebrate their 15th anniversary.
It largely reminded me of Regal Academy, another show by the same showrunner and the same production studio.

Oof. Mondo TV was my jam growing up. So many Disneyesque knock-offs and some actual good series from time to time.

Lol, yes. In the 90' they commissioned Tatsunoko a few series that weren't masterpieces, but were enjoyable nonetheless. I quite liked this version of Robin Hood:
(even though I loathed the way they drew the characters' noses...)

I recall their Cinderella and Zorro series personally. They really do love shoving animal sidekicks into all their shows.

I'm amused the ripped off the Robin Hood logo from Disney (as least the font)!

I recall The History Channel in their earliest years used to play some cartoons related to history, Mondo TV's "Christopher Columbus" series was one of them!

Oh sweet Jesus what did they do to the Winx Club?

The OG art style wasn't the greatest, but at least it didn't give every character the face of a Hummel figurine.

I was more a Ulysses 31 kinda guy, the characters were not manga at all but it was Jap Animated and looked very European Disney in style somehow.

The same animation crew went on to do Cities of Gold, but I thought the characters were slightly less well-drawn somehow.

Both shows were co-productions of the French DIC company with a Japanese studio, thus explains the European look of both shows. The studios were separated on both productions. TMS worked on Ulysses 31 while Mysterious Cities of Gold was done at Studio Pierrot.

Really? I thought the Jap Studio did both series' animations but the music and storyline were from the French studio. The English translation being the icing on the cake. Still that does explain the clear difference in looks. There is an almost 'grown-up Asterix' style to Cities of Gold.

It just looks bland, especially compared to some of the other enemies in the game.
