The jellybean mouth is a dead giveaway. Hard to tell in the little image but in a different one I noticed the telltale big round teeth, too. It's a shame because I thought it sounded like it has a lot of potential, but the art style is making me hesitate.I only became aware of the trailer a few days ago and I knew there was something "off" about the characters. The art style in general using such a warm pallate helps a lot.I'd actually fully believe that they were inspired by Miyazaki, or at least the environmental design was. It seems like The Good Dinosaur all over again, the movie will feature these beautiful, photorealistic environments that are populated by jarring caricatures. If you ask me, these characters are still a big step up compared to the weird proportions of TGD's characters, but that is just my opinion.
The landscape I can believe, the actual animation itself not so much. Saying it's a step up from The Good Dinosaur isn't saying much though because that was just so incredibly bad. But at least from what I can tell so far they're not being outright dishonest with this particular Pixar movie. Brave and The Good Dinosaur had very different plots than what their posters and trailers implied.I'd actually fully believe that they were inspired by Miyazaki, or at least the environmental design was. It's very much just a slice of life film from what I can tell. The Ghibli comparisons aren't too off the mark. The landscape I can believe, the actual animation itself not so much. This show:
I should just write almost everything on Netflix soon.

I'd reserve judgement for the design until the game comes out, but I disagree that it's bad. It's unique enough to be instantly memorable and isn't crammed with details/lazy like other bad designs are. This is the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei V. He looks like a twink femboi (his game model is more feminine-looking than this render) and even his demon form looks like they tried to recreate the magic of SMT: Nocturne's Demi-fiend but watched Power Rangers while brainstorming. Upon reveal of the character a few years ago he's been rather popular with people making trap/tranny porn fanart.

This is what Nocturne's Demi-fiend looks like. He's well-loved by the fanbase and his simple design accentuates the aesthetic and understated edgy feel of SMT Nocturne. (btw, don't buy the HD remake for full price, it's not worth it.)

Exterminatus is too good for them they should be sent into SCP 001 (WHEN THE DAY BREAKS)I mean yeah the characters are ugly but at least the horse is drawn Ok? How bad could it b-
Netflix is in dire need of Exterminatus.
I'd like to add to what @wtfNeedSignUp said and point out that SMT 5 is pretty clearly being hyped up to be essentially a LAW aligned remix of Nocturne in some way. Having the hero bring in more ornamentation to their design compared to demifiend greatly sets up the contrast in what they're trying to do by making a more elegant and clean hero than some scruffy mutant. This is the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei V. I seriously thought he was a girl when I saw the trailer. This is the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei V. What Not to Wear would have a field day with this design.View attachment 2286970
This clown-looking ass detective named Viridian from the anime Kaitou Joker. At least he only appeared like once in the anime, and like 3-4 times in the manga. The pants and hat look so stupid. Doesn't really stop him from being one of my favorites, but I can hate his design and still like him as a concept.
What makes it worse to me is that he's 19, French, and an artist. Pretty sure he lives in Paris, too, as that's where his debut chapter and sole episode appearance took place. What Not to Wear would have a field day with this design.
