What are you guy's thoughts on the new velma series that just dropped?

Anyone saw MeatCanyon's parody of "Velma" recently? That would be the only incentive for me to watch it. 😎

This is legitimate better than the shit that they're making.
Much better than the bog-standard fun-making I expected.

FWIW, the Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated cartoon actually did explain why some (and only some) animals can talk and did it in a way that fitted beautifully with the overall story arc of the two seasons. That really was the best incarnation of Scooby Doo, imo. Had a beautiful line in dark satire whilst still being affectionate towards its characters. I especially liked Ernesto and his crew of communist-environmentalists "Sometimes you must destroy the environment, in order to save it."

Pitch Meeting did Velma as well. Obviously it's Pitch Meeting so he doesn't go as hard on the series as it deserves which would require ditching the light comic tone of Pitch Meeting. Still condemns it though:

Like cancer, it returns more shitty than before.
Still can't get over how they had already greenlit season 2 before season 1 aired and made the announcement after deleting almost everything else to watch on the streaming service as a tax write off at around the same time velma came out only togo "SEE! IT WAS A SUCCESS!" Funniest cope from a company I've ever seen.

so yeah, voicing himself
Pretty much. But I love how much they lean into it. His berating Shaggy over Shaggy's excessive use of 'like'. "Oh, is that what it is like? Is it, like, when, like someone uses 'like' for its intended meaning instead of, like, a conversational stopgap, like?'

I don't rememeber the actual dialogue but it's an episode where they have 'H.P.Hatecraft' as one of the professors at their university. The show is absolutely stuffed with in-jokes and references. You have Velma (the actual Velma, not the abomination in this show) making cracks about Rorscach, there's a sublime Twin Peaks reference. And the best thing about all of this is that they're not relying on reference humour to try and sell the show. It all stands on its own merits even if you've never watched Twin Peaks or have no idea who Harlan Ellison is. The show lampoons everything and still has more emotional heart in one frame than this show appears to in total.

I really loved the 2010 Mystery Incorporated.

isnt that the one where Shaggy and Scooby get Jin-Roh gear?

It is. And it's hilarious. And also that's a pretty dark episode. I can't really explain why without giving spoilers and Mystery Incorporated actually has a really good over-arching storyline that sneaks up on. Like it's not hidden that it's there, right from the first episode, but it's really surprisingly clever and at the end ties together more than you think. Like it actually explains why some animals can talk and others not, but very organically without telegraphing that it's doing so.

I really cannot praise that show enough - funny, cynical, hopeful and able to do it all in Scooby Doo universe where a dog dressing up in a blonde wig and pretending to be a waitress is a thing that happens. Velma in this is still bitter and cynical, but likeable and funny too. The show also gave me this:

If my words have inclined people check it out, please just go in blind rather than looking at clips on YouTube first as it's fun to go in not spoiled. This is the one people want:
