Bought Control on Steam last week but haven't had time to play it yet. Loved Alan Wake and Quantum Break, so I'm looking forward to it.
But lately I've been playing Borderlands 3 with a friend who lives and works abroad (our social time together ever since he left our country), and though I've always liked BL it pisses me off how a AAA game could be so poorly coded. Constant network glitches, wonky asset streaming, and when they claim they've "made fixes to improve stability" it gets worse on my system, which can play basically any other game without issue. I found it funny that they nerfed ricochets (which you could make awesome builds around) because apparently these caused crashes. Yet I only started getting crashes after they implemented their "fix". Gearbox really needs to be sorted out, but with Randy in charge they'll never be.
I also keep going back to Apex Legends, it's a fun time waster but a bit janky as well. I think the main issue is the server tic, but there are quite a few instances of shots that should hit and they don't. They keep "fixing" hit registration, but it never gets fully fixed. And I like playing with Loba, who currently suffers from a major case of the bugs. Her tactical was working too well on release, so they decided to limit it a bit. And what do you know, the "fix" ruined her tactical. Now it doesn't work half the time, especially on the second map. They've tried to fix it, but haven't managed to yet.
So yesterday I decided to try out Call of Duty Warzone just for the hell of it. Hadn't played a CoD game for over 10 years, but I saw some videos and it seemed quite good. I was stunned. Loved the feel of shooting, haven't felt such good shooting mechanics since Destiny 2 on PC. Apex is good, but Warzone definitely felt much better. And whenever a shot didn't hit I really felt it was my fault and not the game. The rendering engine also feels much smoother than Apex or Battlefield, for example. I never thought I'd say this (never was a CoD fan), but I really like Warzone and it may surpass Apex as my go-to time waster if Respawn don't get their act together.
Say whatever you will about Activision (and I do, greedy fucking cunts), but Warzone feels like a very well polished and optimized piece of code. It's a sad state of affairs in the gaming industry when the best, most polished code comes from arguably the worst publisher.
