What are you playing right now?

Slain: Back From Hell, like 90% of indies i've played lately, it starts fine enough and then it goes downhill after the first stage. I should be more selective with the games i buy.

the waiting game, at least until 13 Sentinels releases tomorrow

I'm sort of a revisiting tour of old shooters and arrived at Quake 1. I'm playing it via quakespasm. A few observations:

1) My current computer, one of the new Ryzen Pro APUs with iGPU basically idles while playing it at the solid 60 fps my screen supports+vsync. I remember buying a new PC in the 90s just to be able to play it well on very low resolutions and it still never was quite fluent, dipping down in the single digit framerate sometimes when a lot happened. (which was generally accepted back then) It's just kinda funny to me, especially considering that that PC back then cost easily at least double or even triple (I don't remember) of what this one costed.
2) GLQuake was a blurred, ugly mess and completely killed that crude software render look that helped with the grungy industrial aesthetic the game has. For some reason quakespasm tries to copy GLQuake as closely as possible by default. If you want that crude software renderer look back you need to add:
gl_texturemode 1
r_particles 2
r_lerpmodels 0
r_lerpmove 0
r_oldwater 0
r_waterquality 32
r_scale 2
(adjust this by feel and resolution between 1-4)
r_viewmodel_quake 1
3) Nine Inch Nails soundtrack. Haven't heard it because I pirated the game back then and it came as CD Tracks. It's more ambient, still nice.
4) The game is just fundamentally well put together. You get health, armor and ammo just at the right times on hard not to die but also not to do too well either. (none of that lazy regeneration crap) The traps are nice, the ways fuckers shoot at you are nice, the concentration of enemies is also just perfect to be actually challenging. Sure they're not as smart as modern ones but they don't need to be.
5) The guy who wrote the reaperbots mod (some of you might remember them) is working in the industry, did the unreal tournament bots and has also worked on modern stuff like fortnite. I did not know that. These bots were so ahead of their time it was nuts. They still work with quakespasm and they're still pretty good.
6) Old shooters were better. It's amazing and also sad how well this still holds up and even surpasses more modern stuff. I love the speed together with the minimalist graphics these had and nothing new quite compares I think. People love their graphics effects and they sure do have their place but I do think sometimes less is more and some games are just simply too "busy" graphics-wise. Could also be my old eyes.
7) Murder simulator. Such a moral outrage these games caused. Nobody even cares anymore. Guess when you can see that gory stuff online in HD and with real people it loses all meaning in a video game. Don't know if I like the implications.

New Vegas crashes and overuse of Hohnny guitar aside its fucking great aside from crashes and pop in I havent encountered to many bugs mainly a couple instances of lag, corpses contorting in fucked up ways and a few enemies getting stuck in walls

God of War 4: Found the last time i played this was 2 years ago, time to finish this game in my backlog

Destiny 2: Seasonal content, wrapping weekly quests up, doing the needful.

3d all stars on my budget-friendly switch lite.

My hand started cramping after about 20 minutes. I don't think I'm the target demographic for this console.

I'm playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and I have just started a delivery of 15t of Reindeer meat from Pori to Barcelona in my brandnew Renault Range-T.

I think I finally figured out how to play Software Inc after five years. Pretty decent now.

Just finished the first full playthrough of 13 Sentinels. Lord, that was a good game.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Mainly played Sunshine and Galaxy, I did play up 64 for a bit. Last Nintendo console I owned was a 64 so this is my first time playing those two and I'm really enjoying them. Sunshine has some bullshit but it's still fun.

I just finished Viewtiful Joe and I had an absolute blast. The game is challenging but it's all about memorization and patience. I wonder why this game and it's sequel are trapped in the Gamecube/PS2. This game begs to be ported to PC like Killer7.

I did a private server with max stats and explored everywhere. Being able to spawn a boss with GM commands helped too.

Also it was nice having stable internet and looking up how to finish all those odd and nitche quests compared to how shit was in 1999.

The game still has some nice looking zones, we've yet to have a game do a snowy hellscape as well as Velious did.

Mario's Super Picross was put on SNES Online. I'm not a big puzzle guy, but I was caught off-guard by how addictive it is. So long as you turn off the game's godawful music and replace it with something else (I find Pink Floyd to be perfect to play to it) it's a really comfy game.

That said, I'm not looking forward to doing the Wario puzzles. Those don't give you hints, show you made a mistake, or tell you how to start the puzzle and I'm not smart enough to figure any of that stuff out on my own.

Detroit: Become Human. It's a hell of a step- up from the Telltale games I've been playing, so many options and different outcomes. Only two more achievements to go and I'll get the platinum trophy...

The Last Stand update hit Left 4 Dead 2.

So far, I'm kinda mixed on it. I like the redone animations and bringing back the L4D1 models and music for the first game's maps, as well as the additions to PVP. But right now, there is a lot of constant crashing. Plus some of the new weapons from CSGO are missing textures. Not sure if it's like Garry's Mod where you need to have certain game installed for the skins to show up or what, but it's distracting.

All in all, gave me a reason to come back to the game and remember what made L4D in general so special.
