What are you reading right now?

I've been reading Chronicles of the Black Company, and am currently at Book 3 (The White Rose). This is the best first person fantasy I've ever read, the world feels true and lived in. Every side character and villain are written so well that I could accurately predict their next actions and dialogue, they feel like real people. I can't recommend this series enough.
Apparently the Glen Cook is working on a final wrap up to the most recent (couple decade old) books, and has been working on them for that whole time really. I found the last few releases were a big of a slog, they felt like campaign of attrition. And to be fair, that is what they were portraying more or less. He's remarkably good at building a mysterious, unique, and lived-in world for a guy who grounds characters so well. I almost wish there was more world lore

Michael Moorcock's allegedly set to finish the Eternal Champion stuff and now this?

What excuse does GRRM have for not finishing GoT now.

Rereading the Nicomachean ethics. Great work of literature made by the finest mind the human species has ever produced

I want to tackle the summa after it

Reading some capeshit. Batman: Resurrection. The new prose novel sequel to Tim Burton's Batman, which takes place before Batman Returns.

I'm about 50 pages in. I'm enjoying it, but it really doesn't feel like an authentic Tim Burton's Batman thing. It really feels like fan-fiction, which it essentially is.

There's very unimportant characters from the first movie who pop up, just for fan service, I guess.
Like those two muggers who Batman beats up at the beginning. They pop up in the prologue, selling imported cosmetics and makeup to Basil Karlo.

And an alleged "plot-hole" from the first movie is a plot point.
It's the thing about "Why were Joker henchmen at the top of the cathedral when we never saw anybody else go up there?" The answer is that Tim Burton doesn't give a fuck about that shit, and just likes things to be cool looking.

The actual Tim Burton Batman movies were not at all concerned with logic or things making sense. That's the disconnect between those and this.

I wonder if the novel will address why Gotham city looks relatively normal in the fist movie, but has completely turned into Tim Burton-Land by the time of Batman Returns?

Started All The Pretty Horses and just finished chapter 1. It definitely kinda reminds me of Blood Meridian, but it's definitely a far easier read. I finished The Road earlier this year too which has really made me a fan of McCarthy's work, so I'm very excited to start the border trilogy.

My gf recommended I start the illiad but I'm honestly not sure I can be arsed to read a gorillian pages of poetry.

Finished up PTSD Radio. The lack of a definitive ending is consistent with the disjointed way it was written, but I still would have liked knowing more about what drove Ogushi-sama's transition from a benevolent protector god to malignant demon. Regardless, it is still one of the more effective horror mangas I've ever read.

Continuing my manga streak, I finally got around to buying Clover by CLAMP, the hardcover omnibus that was released a few years ago. Way back in the early 2000s, I was a huge fan of CLAMP's, and I fell in love with the first release of Clover from Tokyo Pop. Unfortunately, the past twenty two years have not been kind to those paperbacks, and a ways back I realised that I needed to replace them. Despite losing interest in CLAMP and their dodgy lolicon shit and chronic inability to finish anything ever, I've held on to my volumes of Clover because it is visually stunning. It's going to be interesting to compare the old books to this new omnibus; the art is flipped and it's a different translation.

The Border Trilogy is probably one of my favorite series' by McCarthy, and that's saying a lot. I loved The Road and Blood Meridian, but there's just something about the opening to The Crossing that still sticks with me years after I finished reading it.

I finished The Terror (Dan Simmons) - great book! I enjoyed the whole thing, even the ending which was a bit strange but worked well.

Now I'm on to Atomic Habits (James Clear) I forgot who recommend this book, but it looks interesting.

I finsihed All the Pretty Horses and it was honestly amazing, I really liked the prison and the romance between John Grady and the girl - it was really sweet even though I’ve never really read that sorta thing. I have The Crossing too but I’m gonna take a short break from McCarthy for a moment.

Anyway I started reading original Bram Stoker Dracula and have just finished Chapter 4 as of writing and it’s legit been one of my favourite pieces of literature so far - it’s so so so fucking good, I just hope it keeps that momentum for the next 23 chapters lol

Been going through the Witcher in audiobooks. Currently on the Blood of elves. I'm enjoying it quite well as it is well written and a very cool mixture of a bunch of European folklore and quite a bit of Elric's DNA. I can fully recommend it.

I skipped over the short stories and didn't touch anything in the Black Company after the Soldiers live, is the rest (mostly short stories afaik) of it worth it?

I haven't touched port of shadows etc. I hear they have cool world+lore expansions though

Part 4, volume 4 of Ascendance of a Bookworm. I've been chewing through the series much like I do stuff by Jim Butcher; the world building is phenomenal, and I apparently have a weakness for books written in first-person with incredibly unreliable narrators. Myne (the main character) is a pretty flawed protagonist, especially for an isekai, and I love it.

They've started making audiobooks for the series, too. They need to hurry up, though; by the time they get 1.3 (Part 1, volume 3) out, I might be done with my first read of the whole series.

Not sure what I'll start on after that. I might reread Lord of the Rings? I need something to balance out how short and dense AoaB is, especially since whatever I read affects my own writing.
