What are your most favorite/best video game levels?

  1. The forest temple in ocarina of time the music is eery and keeps me in a alert state the whole time especially those fucking hands that come from the ceiling grrr.

My first time on Ocarina of Time, the Forest Temple was late at night and man, what an ambiance. It was so creepy, yet I couldn't stop, Early adult Link stage too where you were still enjoying the novelty of it. Perfect.

I make sure and play it exactly the same each time for exactly he same reason. Did you also play it at night, by chance?

Yeah it was at night and it was very coincidental because I had nightmares that night.

Oh man I got goosebumps the first time I got to 2300 AD in Chrono Trigger. That music... Damn. I was only 12 years old at the time and I knew nothing about the game, so it wasn't hyped up before I played it, but as soon as I started I knew I was playing something special. When I got to this area that really solidified the feeling.

I also feel the same way about when you get to Zeal Kingdom in terms of music and area design. You get to 12000 BC and it's a frozen wasteland, then you see this futuristic looking place so far back in the past. Childhood mind = blown. In some ways it seemed even more futuristic than 2300. The idea of advanced ancient technology was new to me. Not knowing what to expect next in Chrono Trigger was really a delight. I was always a sucker for time travel stories.

Before Chrono Trigger the only other JRPGs I'd played were Final Fantasy VI through IX, and the first few generations of handheld pokemon games. The early 2000s were a very special time for discovering games that would become my all-time favorites.

12000 B.C. was the best part as up until that point, the story was pretty lighthearted; we’re just a group of wacky kids out to save the world! The events in 12000 B.C. was such an abrupt turn from the game up until that point

I’m going to say the holy trinity of Hell’s Kitchen, Hong Kong and Paris from Deus Ex. These three levels are a perfect encapsulation of everything that makes this game a masterpiece with the best of the three b Wing Hong Kong

Some other personal favorites from the game are Liberty Island, lebedev’s airfield, the escape from UNATCO, the sinking of the freighter, and Area 51

The Spyro 2 (Ripto's Rage) levels all have a unique feel and charm that I never see in new games, especially love the Skyboxes, Winter Tundra is my favorite.

The Deus Ex hubs as

I have a special love for the dream level and it's score from Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom, game is genuinely amazing, mandatory if you watched Spongebob as a child

Traverse Town is my favorite Kingdom Hearts world and a massive nostalgia boner for me, very disapointed it wasn't in KH3

The Entirety of Amnesia the Dark Descent, game is full of great level design, I absolutely love the architecture and vibe as well.

Chapter Six of Paper Mario TTYD. Its basically Agatha Christie whodunit and its executed quite well. Not hard at all.

Japan and Nepal in Tomb Raider Legend

In general I really like 'spooky' themed levels. Not 'horror' per se, just 'spooky'. Bonus points if it's some kind of haunted location that's used in a creative way (haunted ballroom, haunted library, haunted kitchen, etc.) Some examples:

It has a haunted mansion, a spooky swamp, and an abandoned well, in addition to being a spooky forest. The more tropes the better.

Vietcong had a REALLY good co-op map where you had to push to a crashed Huey, then fight through a few waves of VC and then push North along a riverbed to an extraction point. I ran that thing so many times with a few friends while I was in Kingsville. The best way to keep Marines and Navy JO's out of trouble from 98-03 while stateside was just give them a good gaming PC. Two guys I was buds with rented a house together and the dining room and den had essentially been turned in to a permanent LAN party set up. I'm pretty sure my PC spent 4 times more time at their house than my own

The level Gravemind from Halo 2 in particular the three way shootout near the end where Blow Me Away starts playing

The Forbidden Lands in Shadow of the Colossus.

Despite being largely empty and devoid of life, it is very serene and pleasant to ride around in. It provides a very nice contrast to the more loud and epic colossi fights.
