I wanna keep this thread as non political as possible. I've been a bit perplexed by her sudden explosion in popularity. People are unironically comparing her to 80s MJ which feels kind of far fetched to me. I hadn't listened to her songs in a while and don't remember much, so decided to give her playlist a listen to see what the whole deal was.

And honestly, I guess it's not bad but not incredible either. The best I could put it is that it just sounds like generic 2010s white girl pop to me. Something you listen to on the radio as semi white noise. People praise the storytelling in her lyrics but to me she just seems to sing alot about picking the wrong man or whatever. Perhaps I'm just out of touch...?

some of her songs are good. most are just okay-ish, some are outright bad. i really hate how much she got pushed in the media the last few years. im tired of hearing about her.
her fans are terrible and annoying.

she isnt fat, and she hasnt had gobs of plastic surgery, so she has that going for her. have no idea what she is like in personal life, and i dont really want to. she isnt ugly, nor is she hot in any way. but, i guess if you are appealing to fat ugly wine aunts, then i guess she is hot by comparison.

finally, i will say, carly ray jepsen is superior to tay-tay.

She was astroturfed by the industry, the same as Lizzo. She didn't go from shitty club to shitty club and slowly climb the ladder to stardom. One day she was nothing and the next she was on top of the world.

Beyond that, I don't think she's super talented, although I suspect she puts on an entertaining show full of dancing and singing and lights and backup dancers and all of that because she's a pop star. What she is though is extremely smart and figured out how to turn being a cookie-cutter blonde into a billion dollar income for her instead of just fading away a year after being shoved in front of the masses.

I can't think of a more bland musical act, she's the musical equivalent of the type of corporate art you'll find in waiting rooms and office corridors. Her songs have become increasingly narcissistic over time, but for who she is I can't be too suprised.

I don't know enough of her work to know this for sure but I appreciate that she appears more child friendly than other musical acts. I don't appreciate things like chasing that plane watcher for daring to look at publically available information.

I find her music and performance skills to be painfully mediocre, and I think her popularity is based more on a cult of personality effect rather than actual merit. Her stans are up there among the most psychotic, but unlike most pop stars who have psychotic cult followings, I don't think she feels any kind of embarrassment about them.

She seems to be bizarrely sexless, even when she is trying to look alluring she has an expression like someone just dropped a fart. Her music is for millennial cat ladies and wine aunts and maybe the reason she has so many songs about breaking up with men is because she's a big old lezzer she needs to do some work on herself personalitywise.
