What exactly is the thought process behind identifying as nonbinary?

I never really thought that deeply about people who call themselves nonbinary, but I've been wondering exactly how these people come to the conclusion that they're nonbinary. In their minds, what is it that makes them nonbinary?

I feel like "I don't act like a man or woman" is just too obvious and refutable. They MUST be performing some other mental gymnastics.

It's just boring straight people who want to seem interesting.
They couldn't be bothered to develop a personality or some cool skills to show off so they took a meaningless phrase and went: "See? We're not just boring bland vanilla, we're different".

"I'm a girl... or so I thought? But I don't like wearing dresses, or makeup???? I don't like the colour pink, or doing my nails????? I like playing sports, and am growing increasingly uncomfortable with the over-sexualization of girls at younger and younger ages, but I still crave attention????????? Obviously, this must mean I'm not a girl at all, but a mythical non-gender, and if anyone questions me, they're a bigot!"
I'd estimate that like, 90% of heckin' valid enbies are just teenage girls going through a tough time, so they latch onto this gender shit, whereas in the past, they may have latched onto My Chemical Romance albums and tumblr. Problem is, it's easier to move on from an identity based around a style of clothing, or the music you like. When you base your identity around gender politics, you're going to have a much more difficult time moving away from that as you get older
