Been playing some Hex Bawx games as of late... couple of weeks ago I beat Gears of War 3. Few days ago I beat From Dust and last night beat I AM Alive (capitalization intentional).
Gears of War 3 was one of those games I bought for like $5. I'm not huge into the GoW mythos, but I can enjoy the finer points of shooting many ugly things and running around looking like a fridge that grew limbs. And it was a pretty decent game, although I didn't give a shit about the storyline at all. I played and completed it on Hardcore, which sounds tougher than it was. Usually whenever I was incapped, one of the AIs revived me within like five seconds. Oh yeah, there is a multiplayer portion too but... *shrugs* I don't play multiplayer, especially knowing that I'd probably be going in as a level 13 when anyone else left playing the game is like a level 50.
From Dust was actually more entertaining than I would have expected from the way they advertised the game. It's pretty much a god-simulator, wherein you play different maps and try to keep the settlers alive from the elements, whether it be floods or lava or whatever. You acheive this by pretty much harnessing the elements themselves and reshaping the world around you. It's kind of like Black & White meets the Play-Doh Funhouse.
I AM Alive was... interesting. It felt like a game the developers were planning on making a full-fledged release but had to pair it down to just an arcade release. There are a few interesting elements in it (having to manage stamina as well as health), including some of the fiercest resource management this side of DayZ (you seriously feel like a prince if you manage to be carrying all of three bullets at the same time), but unfortunately once you get into the rhythm of how to play it, it stops becoming a challenge, even at the hardest of difficulties. The only challenging aspect was the controls which are kinda soupy during some of the climbing portions you have to undertake. Oh, and the character models and... well... all of the game is ugly. Yeah, it's supposed to be post apocalyptic blah blah blah, but a LOT of the graphics feel like what playing Fallout 3 would feel like if you were playing it on a PS2.
Gonna be starting Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Blah Blah Blah Edition tomorrow, and also slogging through Watch_Dogs. It's a shame because I really like a lot about the game, but Aiden Pierce is such a non-entity that I really don't give a shit about his motives other than to walk around and steal people's money and hack traffic lights.
