What game did you finish today?

South Park: Stick of Truth.

that last level was absolutely horrifyingly disgusting. I probably shouldn’t have been surprised considering how hard the rest of the game went for it, but they still managed to surprise me,

"Finished" a so-called "Thuggyverse" playthrough of Fallout 4.

I can see what they're trying to do, and they do give a damn about quality and role-playing, which I appreciate. But all I can think as I go through it is "voiced RPG characters were a mistake". The dialogue's fine up until they have to interact with a vanilla story character, then it gets stilted because they're trying to write around vanilla voice lines, and it manages to take me out of the experience.

At least I got to wear the Not-Donald-Trump guy's toupee for charisma bonuses.

The Witness. It's a pretty neat puzzle game but it basically doesn't have a story and the ending is just kind of there. Still, I'd say it's probably worth playing if you like those sort of games, especially with how creative it is with using the environment around you in the puzzles.
I liked the witness but the sense of smugness bothered me. In some parts it gave me the sense that puzzles were made so that you had to take out pen and paper to crack it. Fuck you Jonathan Blow, that's a cheap Phil Fish move, so out of sheer spite I cracked that shit in my head. Unless I missed an introduction to some puzzles and went where I shouldn't have been, never finished the game.

Just got done with Observer. Already mentioned in another thread I though it was just a Soma reskin and playing through the end my opinion has not changed. Its a middling walking sim with an average story brought down by tedious gameplay. The cybrpunk setting is kind of interesting but there are better games out there to spend your time on, I would say avoid it. They did manage to get the voice talents of Rutger Hauer and its probably old age at that point but he sounds like hes about to fall asleep, not a great performance.

Has multiple endings and I didn't want to waste more time on it so looked the other one up on youtube. Clicking though some other videos opened one and immediately though the person sounds really stiff, just no charisma reading off their scrip. Imagine my shock when my eyes look across to the right and see this 'up next' video from the same person.

I finished the main story of Disgaea 5 early this morning but the story is just a vehicle to the post-game. I'm looking forward to seeing how absolutely ridiculous the game gets.

Not today, but I recently finished Doom Eternal. I have to say I'm not a big fan of it overall. Imo it was much goofier than Doom should be (they literally call him Doom Guy and he literally has a Fortress of Doom, really?).

The game in general has high highs and low lows. The combat was good, as you'd expect, but there's just a lot of shit tacked on that should not be there. Cheesy narrative and feature creep being the biggest offenders. I'll be honest I can't even remember what the story was supposed to be or why in god's name I should care. Because of the feature creep, a lot of the mechanics feel underdeveloped and tacked on. The most obvious example being The Crucible (the cool sword that's in all the marketing materials). You barely ever get to do anything with it at all sans the final fight and it's not even a proper glory kill. You literally just swing it and whatever is in front of you explodes. Lot of buildup for a lot of nothing.

Similarly, the weapons are poorly balanced. Once you have the super shotgun, there is literally just no reason to use anything else unless you're forced to. I'd recommend researching weapons upgrades before investing because stuff like the microwave gun is completely useless.

The ammo situation was not well thought out. You no longer have a fallback gun, and your ammo cap is quite low. You can easily run out of chainsaw and often in the larger fights, smaller enemies will simply stop spawning halfway in so you can't get ammo back even if you do have enough. There were several instances where I ran out of ammo mid fight and I simply had to reload the game.

And holy shit do not get me started on The Marauder. Half an hour of trying to cheese his AI and 5 brain aneurysms later I figured out a decent strategy, but further encounters remained just as stroke inducing as the first.

Terminator Resistance - the lack of budget is very obvious, such as half the characters wearing masks so they don't have to lip sync, or military vehicles that have keep back signs written in Arabic so are clearly assets from another game, but I actually enjoyed it far more than I was expecting, definitely having a certain janky charm.

Pokemon FireRed - Along with LeafGreen, I had and played both as a child. First (Pokémon) games, by the way!

But here's the story: I was asscrap at Pokémon as a kid; barely understood type matchups, and more often than not, my starter would be the strongest, with a Pidegot in a far second. Didn't even matter if was playing through with a competent and well-rounded team, because I'd just restart from the beginning. Guess I just loved the introduction.

Years later, after I lost both of the games and the use of my GBA, I downloaded an emulator and FireRed. I was still gripped with a fixation to finally finish my cherished and unfinished childhood game. Thing is, an emulator made cheating easy, and I usually fell into some similar pits; whether it's the beginning of the game or halfway through, I'd already have a tab with a game forum page with a list of all of the cheats ready to go. Guess I just wanted to get it over with.

So, with a goal this year of finishing the games I pick up to play, I got the emulator and FireRed once more. I wanted to play through it legitimately. And today, I can type that I did. Underleveled by ~10, I (easily) defeated Blue and beat the game.

The team consisted of Blastoise, Raichu, Clefable, Arcanine, Jynx, and Dragonite. I always try to capture the pseudo-legendary and raise the fully more the Pokémon League. As for Clefable and Jynx? I just wanted to spice things up. I wanted Rhydon over Jynx, but Jynx was easier to obtain than Rhydon; the team was mid-30s by the time I got to the Safari Zone for Rhyhorn.

I had a blast... but I can't play the postgame because of shitty emulator errors! Guess I'll have to get the "fullest" experience possible with LeafGreen then. Guess I'll finally try out a full playthrough with Leaf over Red. But that can wait... I don't want to burn out on Pokémon that quickly!

Finally got #1 in Super Mario 35, so I guess that counts as completing it. Good job too since Nintendo's gonna send the ninjas to take the game back next month.

Just got done with Ghostbusters remastered. Had a lot of fun, its a really good game and you can tell a lot of care went in to it.

The dialogue can be a bit hit and miss at times, gets a bit close to devolving into a generic shooter at the end and the last level is far too long but overall a pretty good experience. Worth checking out if you like Ghostbusters. I hat fun zapping and sliming ghosts.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

Didn't really feel this one at all. Billie's boring as fuck (even compared to mute Corvo), her toolset wasn't fun, and the levels felt bland.

Sonic the Hedgehog, with all chaos emeralds. As an adult (of sorts) I finally caught up with all you guys who did this in the first grade. Playing the Switch port; it includes a leader board for rings collected consecutively which indicates that I kinda suck at this game.

I finally beat the main game of Super Mario Odyssey. Not sure if I’ll go for the 300 moons or not.

I think beating 2 games may be more than I did all last year.

Beat Max Payne 3 the other day. It was good. The bullet-time dodging stuff was awesome. Never played the first two games before trying this one but based on what I know about Max from reading stuff online I really liked the ending and felt like it was a proper sendoff to the character. Hope they never make a sequel and fuck it up.

Terraria. I’ve had it for over five years but I never got very far in it until now. Such a good game.

Little Nightmares II, pretty good game overall but took longer than expected due to a few cheap deaths.
