My thinking being is that Citizen Kane is seen as the default answer for "greatest film ever" and Deus Ex has always been the default answer for "greatest game ever". Whether or not you believe that or think the game is good is superfluous, that's the general consensus when I think of the Citizen Kane of vidya.
