What Have You Cooked Recently?

Boiled some spaghetti (tip for beginners: salt the water, not the pasta!)
This can't be emphasized enough. It's the only way to salt the pasta itself. And don't be stingy unless you're planning on putting really salty stuff on it afterwards, like mussels or other seafood.

I lucked out and got a real wok and some stainless steel sauce pans for christmas, officially no more non stick/ceramic lined cooking utensils which has been a goal of mine for years.
I got some tamarind pulp and dried shrimp and made pad thai with chicken in the wok.
I am trying to phase out anything non stick etc too, I no longer believe they are as safe as we generally think they are long term. That sounds really exciting. Got a cast iron pan/grill thing I am going to try next week.

Got chicken noodle soup with extra carrots on the stove in a big (aged non stick) pot. Timer set for 10 minutes. Then soup and mikecraft by the fire.

Happy new year everyone.

It's taken me about 3 years of getting stainless steel, cast iron, and a dutch oven but the switch is so worth it. IMO you end up spending more having to buy new teflon pans every time they scratch. I noticed that discount stores often have cast iron and stainless steel for cheap!

Enjoy the chicken noodle soup, sounds cozy for this time of year!

Pasta water is best when it's just salty enough that you can feel a slight buzz on your tongue but it doesn't taste full-on salty. It's hard to explain in words

Got a big ass bag of overripe bananas from a neighbor. So I spent 5 hours tonight making banana bread. 9 fucking loaves of the shit.
4 loaves of traditional banana walnut bread, 2 loaves of banana walnut with maraschino cherries, 2 loaves of banana walnut with apple and cinnamon, and 1 request from my roommate which was banana walnut cranberry orange.

I guess I'm gonna be dumping a few on my neighbors and freezing a few.

I made a lot of shit because working with my hands is the only way I can deal with the bad thoughts. I made char siu with a pork tenderloin instead of a pork butt. I bought a seasoning mix that surprisingly had red color 3 instead of 40. From what I've read, the Chinese use a red rice yeast for the color.

I made wild rice with garlic and tumeric, but that stuff has to cook longer than jasmine rice. My rice cooker went kinda skitzo and I had to spend an additional 20 minutes cooking it.

I made cheddar and thyme biscuts. Using this recipe:
I've found that using a glass instead of a metal biscuit cutter makes them really good. I made some roasted cauliflower, because my sister said it was good. I also had some boiled cabbage.

I'm going to have shit on a shingle tonight
I just love making biscuts.

I've made shit on a shingle before and loved it. I had to use ground beef instead because chipped beef isn't available in my country. Is there much of a difference?

We tried to do cheese fondue for NYE but it failed epically and we ended up having to order in. Today I think I'm just gonna have coffee.
...dare I ask how you fuck up a cheese fondue?
big pot of beef Japanese curry. A friend gifted me homemade chocolate habanero pepper powder and boy it doesn't mess around. I added 1/4 teaspoon to a big bowl of curry and it is very hot.
When I make curry I aim for 4 tsp of carolina reaper powder per 6-8 servings. It's in my "spicy but not too spicy to bring to work and have for lunch" range.

Yes. They're about as different as ground pork is from Prosciutto di Parma.
