Someone gave me an individually wrapped frozen French Onion soup in plastic from Costco.

It came without instructions, but the Internet seemed to conclude that 40 mins at 400C was the answer.

I used the opportunity to use a clay French Onion soup bowl that's been in the cupboard for years. Probably bought at a yard sale.

The trickiest part was getting the frozen caramel cylinder out of the shrinkwrap and fully contained within the clay bowl, which wasn't very deep.

I happened to have a rustic molasses loaf lying around, so I cubed a slice to toss in after. Was debating whether to toast it first to simulate stale bread/croutons, but ended up just cubing it fresh because it's already pretty dense.

Overall, everything turned out alright. The soup was gooey and yummy. The improvised croutons sucked up the bottom of a broth that was a little thin.

Not as good as the pub, but good for a lazy version.

One note was that the frozen cylinder was topped with white round cheese nubs. I assume this was mozzarella or similar because I doubt Costco is laying out for Gruyere.

The freaky thing was that some of the round bits maintained their shape in the caramelized broth even after 40 mins. The cheese seemed to be warm/cooked, but I don't think I've ever had French Onion with white cheese pebbles.

had some beef tallow fries from Steak N Shake near me.
Holy fuck the taste was so different. SNS's fries were, at best, mid with not a whole lot of flavor. Now they're as good as McDonald's fries, maybe even better. Crispier and richer. Saltier with the faintest HINT of beef.
I am not a paid shill but sweet baby jesus I am in love.
(And yes I know they par-fry them in oil before shipping them, let me have my moment)
Also hot take their burgers are some of the best in fast food.

the wife brought tendies, fries, and a sandwich from Raising Cane's
it's not quite as good as Bud's in South FL

that might not sound it if you're not familiar with Bud's, but that's a hell of a compliment to give a national chain to even compare them

lately for brunch I've been having 3 eggs with 4 tbps of egg whites and 1/2 cup cottage cheese with adobo seasoning, along with a gala apple and/or bacon, sooo good.
savoring the home cooked meals while I can.

Footlong from Subway with meatballs, marinara and pepperoni. And a bag of salt and vinegar chips and an ice cold water.

Do they charge you extra for the pepperoni?

In another life, the footlong Subway meatball was my fastfood go-to.

Then I had one a year or two back and was really turned off because they'd shrunk the balls and changed the sauce recipe.

Well, that and the fact that every Subway became the domain of the pajeet.
