How it used to be maybe. The grounds for divorce were adultery, unreasonable behaviour, separation for two year with consent or five years total or desertion.
If the wife has given up her career to raise children, and is dependent on the man, and the man has had an affair, then he’s broken the contract and she gets alimony and child support. That’s what it was for - to protect the financially weaker party and the children. A no fault divorce with no kids after a few years should result in a fifty fifty split of assets gained during the marriage and nothing more.
I wouldn't be entirely averse to people having to give SOME reason for a divorce. Even if it required one partner acutally to commit adultery. But remember, some of the people wanting to get divorced are so absolutely fucking retarded they literally couldn't commit adultery.
