So I'm reading this book, The Founding Brothers for my summer reading curriculum. Though America's founding fathers were brilliant revolutionaries centuries ahead of their time, they were not perfectly logical, fundamentally incorruptible saints of virtue and reason, as they are idolized by the Teabaggers. There's this chapter about our second president and his arrogant tendency to flat-out deny facts uncomfortable to him, turning to his wife for coddling and asspats when both sides disapproved of his actions. A lot of times during his presidency, confirmation and familial bias took primacy over reason.
Sound familiar?
It must not be overlooked that Abigail Adams was herself centuries ahead of her time in the role she played in covertly shaping executive policy as a woman. Somehow, her coddling just worked, it kept her husband going and the nascent America unexpectedly stable.
So, my question is, what if Barb found herself in Abigail's shoes? Not neccesarily during the founding of America, but as the trusted mother/wife of an exceptional individual holding high office. Like, what if everybody in America suddenly became retarded ala idiocracy and Chris was suddenly the champion of humanity to be elected president? Alternatively on a smaller scale, what if Chris and Barb got sucked in a portal to CWCville where Chris is mayor for life with no elections?
Doesn't have to be Chris, BTW. I guess what I'm asking is, what if Barb was the first lady?
