I'm for revising the prison system to prevent rapes and abuse and giving second chances, but people also need to face consequences for their actions and acknowledge that they had a hand in what they did by their own choice.

Oh lord, I hate that, too. The prison system in the U.S. is deeply flawed, certainly, and I loathe the "for profit prison industry". ...But that doesn't mean the whole thing needs to be abolished. It's a poor over-simplification of a complicated issue.

Are you asking if people do actually try to pull the "entertainment = fair use" bit? Because yes, they do. I've noticed the same spiel on quite a few videos, so that seems like a common thing people slap on their videos to invoke some sort of non-existent loophole on copyright.

There's that very convenient comma between "non-profit" and "educational". It should be "non-profit educational". Another one you'll see "for entertainment purposes only, no copyright intended!".

It's on par with prostitutes asking their johns if they're cops.

Fair use is indeed a real thing. But no, entertainment isn't an exception. Neither is the fact that you're giving it away for free.

That's especially stupid because Facebook TOS which you have to click through to even use the site explicitly gives them those rights. If you don't agree to that, technically your use of the site is fraudulent and, in theory, prosecutable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

However, my main problem with it is that the institution essentially adheres to the just-world hypothesis; that everything is sunshine and bunnies, and everything happens for a good reason. If you wind up in a good family, you're blessed. If you don't, He moves in mysterious ways. The hard reality is that we don't live in an ideal world. This doesn't mean there aren't good people willing to adopt and love a child as their own, don't get me wrong.

Another thing that pisses me off about the pro-life movement in general, including prospective adoptive parents (PAPs for short) on the libertarian right, is this rabid distrust of the government. I agree that the powers that be are full of shit; like diapers, they need to be changed regularly. However, the libertarian PAPs seemingly want to do away with background checks by either minimizing government involvement in the process or outright privatizing adoption, period. Seriously, if you think that you're fit to raise a kid, then why the hell do you freak out about the authorities digging into your past in an effort to prove your case?
