Been doing martial arts quite a bit since I was a kid.

Started with taekwondo since the third grade. Did wrestling in high school (made it to varsity but never state cause those guys take it waaaaay too serious)

Went to college and did taekwondo again alongside Hapkido since that was offered. (Wrestling was a good compliment to hapkido. Discovered my favorite move to be the hip toss. Did more sparring tournaments in taekwondo and got kicked in the head hard enough to see black for a little bit. Need to keep my hands up. Never did like that promotion was tied to how well you can dance the forms)

After that, moved to Minneapolis and did Brazilian Jiujitsu for a bit and then corona hit and all the gyms closed. Havent been back to martial arts since. Would like to get into Judo or muay thai after I finish my welding program.

How about you? What arts do you do?

Have tried:
TKD (yay for meaningless black belts given to 10 year olds)
Goju-Ryu
BJJ
Aiki-Jujutsu
Full Contact Karate (loved it but lacked the time)

Have continued to train:
Judo
Eskrima/Kali

Would be down for trying Wing Chun or Muay Thai but have never had the opportunity/time.

Qi gong, they sold it to me as martial arts as a child to rope me in. Really realxing though, can recommend.
I feel like even the traditional martial arts that are not useful to real life combat can have merit as relaxation, meditation and physical fitness/flexibility exercises. Whatever the MMA guys may say about "well it's not useful in a street fight" that's not always why people train.

TKD.

Boxing. Would like to get back into that.

Mma people are cancerous to martial arts. Any youtube video I watch of people performing martial arts be it combat or for self-fulfilment, first comments are luddite mma drones.

BJJ on and off in my late teens, early 20s, trying to find time to get back into it, but my work schedule gets in the way. I would love to Box or try MT, but I have a fucking huge nose and I dont need another crook in it.

kickboxing and some grappling to be a little rounded, did it because i felt insecure and became so obsessed with it i started lifting and doing all this other stuff just to punch and kick harder

TKD.

Boxing. Would like to get back into that.

The biggest reason I've stuck with judo and eskrima has been that I enjoy the atmosphere of the clubs and the people I train with. I'm having a good time and I'm getting excercise- that's a win in my book.

MMA fans are cancerous, practitioners are usually tolerant of other martial arts that arent as applicable in MMA. Of course there is a vocal minority, but even faggots have opinions.

I think it's usually weighted by how much time the MMA practitioners spend practicing the martial art versus bitching about them online.

i love mma and people who practice it are cool but in a fight i would bet 100 percent on the dude who did judo for 5 years compared to the guy who did mma for 5 years

There are so many variables at play though. A high level specialist is going to have an advantage over your above average MMA fighter, but athleticism, cardio, age, gameness, coaching, and hours spent on the mat are all going to come into play.

Back in high school or college me and a buddy thought that the best way to start a martial arts school at the time would be to capitalize on the anime boom and just teach people to go into horse stance and scream.
You haven't watched anime other than DBZ?
