What movie did you see recently?

The Strangers 2. What a trainwreck of a sequel from an OKish movie. At least it was funny and I could laugh at my friend's suffering.

Brothers and I saw Pacific Rim 2, and I enjoyed it. Yeah, first is better of course, and the beginning was quite exposition heavy and too fast for my tastes, but I feel like they were expanding a bit more on some ideas, or even fixing a couple of issues some people might've had. One common complaint is that the Jaegars not Gypsy Danger are taken out of commission almost as soon as we see them, which is not much of an issue this time around. The climax I think was well-done in that regard.

I think my favorite thing about this is that they took something a bit insignificant, yet important as drifting with a Kaijuu brain and gave it a horrifying consequence that might've been brought up once in the first film. Like damn the reveal weirded me out so fucking much, but I just really liked the idea because it got me to think back and go "Oh yeaaaah!"

Also there might be some China-pandering going on since they did a bait-and-switch about who the villain was in having us think this CEO lady was the one behind the rouge Jaegar attacks--which yes, got me to think of the 13th Angel from Evangelion as it happened, this movie will never get away from the parallels--but I think it's still executed just fine.

It has quite the sequel hook, though I wonder if that has anything to do with the proposed animated series? I could've sworn that was being made, hadn't really heard about it in ages.

My opinion might change after I let this sink in some more, but I was quite pleased nonetheless and got my giant robot fix in the meantime. Some people have issues with it and aren't liking it as much, but it's a movie where giant robots beat the shit out of monsters with some science mumbo-jumbo that may not even be plausible anyway and it knows this.
I had similar thoughts after watching it and did not see the twist coming.
Something I did suspect might happen but did not want to see happen was the death of Mako. Given the brief time she had with John Boyega's character, it made me want to see more of their sibling relationship. But with three of the cast from the previous installment returning, you had a feeling someone would bite the dust. Sure Dr. Hermann could have been killed after the Newt twist but he had the whole "Kaiju blood-fuel", which acted as Chekov's gun.

I am sure there is there is SJW outrage over non-white characters that died yet they ignore nameless white extras who died (such as Amara Namani's family in her drift flashback).

I recently watched Killzone Sha Po Lang. Amazing fight choreography but one of the most soul crushing and depressing movies I've seen, I mean Jesus fucking Christ was I not ready for that feel trip...

Watched Annihilation on Netflix, and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a solid, tense science-fiction movie which succeeds in carrying the spirit's of Lovecraft's work than alot of direct or half assed adaptations of his writings. It's beautiful to look at, and also some of the creatures the science team finds during their journey are genuinely disturbing, especially a bear, or what started as a bear.

It's too bad Raleigh's actor couldn't return to the film due to scheduling differences, it would've helped further the emotional impact of Mako's death. I think they mentioned briefly in the movie that Raleigh just up-and-disappeared after the breach was closed, which kind of seems like a bit of a quick hand wave probably because they had to do a quick little rewrite to not include the character.

At the same time, though, this felt like a "passing of the torch" film, so they had to make do with what they could with that theme.

You do know it's a horror comedy like Tremors or Shaun Of The Dead right? It's not a serious horror film.
More specifically, it's supposed to be a return-to-form for Raimi, I think most specifically recalling the Evil Dead 2 days.

Anyway, I watched Bonnie and Clyde when it was on TCM. First time I'd seen it. I get its significance in film history regarding what kind of violence you can show onscreen, but I found it to be really corny. The most fun I had was chuckling at the innaccuracies in the movie.

Now or Never. It's a silent short from 1921 starring Harold Lloyd. My grandfather was born in 1921 so I thought I'd watch it to see what was popular then. It's about a maid that goes to visit her childhood sweetheart on a train. She takes the little girl she cares for with her. It was actually really funny too. I'd like to see more of Harold Lloyd's films.

I went to watch Ready Player One as a joke and goddammit it was one of the worst pranks I ever pulled on myself. It was genuinely one of the worst films and one of the most "hip and cool" movies I ever saw. Any 90's cartoon that was a reboot like Yo! Yogi? Forget about those. THIS MOVIE was the epitome of trying to get today's audience with old stuff (except there's a bunch of new shit like Tracer from Overwatch in this adaptation of a book from 2011.)

I watched "We are still here" the other night, it was a nice little homage to Fulci's "House by the Cemetery"

Little bit of a slow burn for the first bit of it (as is the normal for most Italian horror) but that last act was kind of hilariously over the top in almost an Evil Dead II kind of way.

Psychic lady opening the front door when they are trying to leave just to have her head blown off was a def "HOLY SHIT" moment.

Turns out Black Panther is still playing where I live close to... Thank fuck I was able to finally see it for myself! Without saying too much, it was definitely a High Tier film in my book.

Now I want to eventually see Isle of Dogs (definitely) and Pacific Rim 2 (even if it's reviews are less than stellar, I'm gettin' my proper giant robot fix someday!).

I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane last night for the first time since I saw it in theaters when it came out. Personally, I think it's criminal that John Goodman did not get more awards recognition for his role in this.

Going through Masters of Horror again. Currently watching Sick Girl and Deer Women.

I wanted to see Black Panther, but went camping instead, then had to go see family for the rest of the day, while I’m bummed about it, at least I saw family.
I just got back from watching Peter Rabbit, and it was a fun movie. Not amazing, but the jokes didn’t feel forced too often, the CG was alright, the soundtrack was enjoyable, and I really liked the traditional animation at the end credits.

I watched Videodrome for the first time a couple nights ago. So far I have to say it's my favorite Cronenberg movie, though The Brood doesn't fall too far behind for me. I still have a ways to go as far as his filmography is concerned but I definitely have liked his bizarre and unique brand of horror.

Coincidentally I was on a Lloyd kick fairly recently. I watched Girl Shy and The Kid Brother about a week ago, give or take. Both of which are great movies, but especially consider watching Safety Last if you haven't yet, one of the best silent movies for sure.
