You mean windows defender?People using anti-viruses that isn't Defender need to stop using computers.
Yeah, Windows Defender is actually a solid antivirus, the fact it's hooked into the Windows OS gives it a few benefits that other antivirus packages don't have, particularly with ransomware protection, and it's completely free. There's really no need to buy anything else for antivirus usage, you can use OneDrive or Google Drive to back up important files, Bitwarden to save your passwords and Google Photos to back up images instead of the $60+ "Internet Security" shit that gives you 1/10th of the space. You mean windows defender?

Just letting you know you made a typo, you forgot to add "Bit" in front of "Defender".
Well my point was that if you need an avtivirus in the first place you probably shouldn't be using computers.
How does being good at computers protect you against some new zero day that hits any commonly used browser? You're still occasionally going to need to clean up other people's messes too.
There are plenty of old people out there who might click on a scummy advertisement unintentionally.Well my point was that if you need an avtivirus in the first place you probably shouldn't be using computers.
I deleted it because it was just a joke and I was worried people might take it seriously. Windows Defender is good enough, there's no reason to spend money on anything else. This is actually pretty good, low bullshit. For some reason, nearly every paid antivirus software is absolute garbage, and perversely, the more it costs, the worse it is. At least outside of enterprise-focused solutions, like what ISPs use.
Why? lol. In what universe does that make sense? Viruses, spyware, and other crap can be injected through web advertising/google ads. Viruses can be injected into web pages, particularly websites that have slightly outdated code or certain flaws. Java can be hijacked to inject viruses. It's completely random and you can't predict it or protect yourself by only staying on "safe" websites. Just use AV, use software that deletes cookies and trackers, etc. it's not hard.Well my point was that if you need an avtivirus in the first place you probably shouldn't be using computers.
If your logic is that virus protection software is pointless because it might detect a new virus on the second day it's out rather than the first day, YOU sound like you don't know how computers work. How would an AV protect against a threat that isn't in it's database?

It wouldn't, but you're still going to need to clean up after the fact. I don't generally believe in bothering with some shit that's always running but I usually have something for cleanup or to run occasionally to check.

I find it foolish that you think Windows Defender blocks programs from running. It asks if you're sure you want to run it, albeit with a bit of a scary message, but once you click allow it'll let the program run.Personally I consider it the opposite of foolish to run a piece of software in the background constantly that scans every web page I go to and blocks me from running half my programs due to false threats, all for a sense of comfort that I could just as easily achieve by running an adblocker and using common sense.
Strawman.Browsing without an adblocker? Java applets? What decade are you posting this from?

But whatever, we're bound to have had a difference in opinion at some point. I still love you though, and there's nothing you can do to change it. ❤
Strawman.
I minimize spyware and my digital footprint. I'm not a paranoid schizophrenic though lmao. Not like I have illegal activity I need to erase and hide from the government. if you have a government ID, a file of your already exists in the world. It's OK to use the AV internet condom and use adware/virus cleaners, you're more likely to experience an info leak from getting a virus instead of your antivirus telling the world you looked at hentai or whatever.![]()
It's dumb advice to give to people, people will read this thread, they should ignore your advice. Hopefully that clears it up.Sorry I'm having such a hard time taking you seriously with how serious you are about defending AVs. I'm not talking about your personal opinions, just the fact that you're reacting to me like I just insulted your favorite political party or something. Bro I'm just making fun of AVs relax, this isn't an actual argument.

I hope everyone stays safe online
- The only way to be truly safe is never put personal info, photos, documents, etc. on a computer connected to the Internet!
- More risk comes from leaks built into firmware, e.g. the backdoor in CPUs
- Using AV will automatically remove shitty software, not perfect but better than flying blind
- Adblock and AV fill different gaps
- The info leaks people should worry about are the dumb shit they post on social media
- Always use multiple emails that can be segregated and not easily traceable if hacked/leaked, ala https://haveibeenpwned.com/
- Don't put a bunch of sensitive stuff on your phone, either
- Wifi is never truly secure, avoid it when you can
- On phones, Data 4G > wifi
- Avoid downloading a bunch of software on your phone or computer
- Take time to manually disabled windows telemetry and stuff
- A file already exists on you and has for years
- stop being a fag
I thought this thread was supposed to be for problems with the site, why the fuck are you autists sperging about antiviruses?
