What Virus protection, if any, do you use?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
If you're using Linux, you just need to be smart enough not to paste in a random console command without checking it first.

If you're still using Windows XP/Vista or older like some kind of caveman, reconsider your life choices up to this point. Seriously, seek help, this isn't natural.

If you're a stubborn fuck that's still using Windows 7, consider updating to 10 finally, but if not, use Microsoft Security Essentials. Ever since Windows 8 it's been integrated into the OS as Windows Defender. It's a very good overall virus protection.

You can always drop in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but try to track down the latest version from the v3 branch, since the v4 branch has castrated some functionality and put it behind a paywall, when it was free in v3.

Also using Nano Adblocker with Nano Defender and some additional filter lists is a nice way to block off any potentially unwanted websites and/or scripts while browsing the net. And the most important element of solid virus protection is common sense.

MalwareBytes and Windows Defender. I always load any browser I use up with script blockers, tracker blockers, and ad blockers.

Shady sites aren't the only places you can get malware and viruses. Going to those is the easiest way to get infected.
Adblockers are the best antivirus software these days. Use uMatrix if you have aspergers and want granular control, or use uBlock Origin if you don't.

And it's been mentioned a couple of times, but www.virustotal.com is a website where you can upload any file and it'll scan it for you with a ton of different antivirus programs. Use that if you need to download and run a suspicious EXE or if you're pirating Android software.
Virustotal is owned by Google. Scanning pirated files on it might not be the best idea.

Besides, pirated software will surely give out false positives, even if it's not malicious at all. The only true way to see if your pirated programs are malicious is to check their behaviour in a sandbox environment.

Security in this brave new world is mostly securing your browser and turning on your firewall. If you really need to scan something ClamAV is cool and good.
lol just kys you're not ready for the big boy world
