There's going to be a total solar eclipse visible to anybody who isn't a stinky nigger living in the old world. What cool shit will you be doing during the eclipse.

I have some family members traveling a bit with their kids to be able to see totality, because the kids were too small in 2017 to remember it. I remember them seeing it, because all the adults worked together to keep the glasses on the kids while they were staring at the sun.Yelling at my kids to keep their solar eclipse glasses on
Be careful on your way thereI think I have a dental appointment...
I absolutely think that's why the schools are closing for the day. I don't mind it, but it must be a pain for parents who still need childcare. I took the day off so we could go hiking, but not everyone can just take the day off. It's probably going to be cloudy here, but if it isn't I'm going to the top of a hill here where the astronomy club usually hangs out.
I saw totality in 2017 and it was really neat and worth it, but I am an adult capable of forming memories so I don't need to move mountains do it twice.

Kids are dumb and that's a given, but I definitely remember making pinhole cameras/eclipse viewers when I was a spud. I think the reason schools are canceling for that day is because kids listen way less and parents sue way more, so they don't want to risk it.
Personally, I'm waiting for some little shits on TikTok to gin up a "stare directly at the sun during the eclipse" challenge/fad/meme about half a day before it happens, and either a dozen or two kids nuking their central vision, or the media moral panic. My kids are teenagers, so I won't really have to keep their glasses on them but they like to tease me that they'll take them off because my mom's cousin looked at an eclipse and went blind, but it was "only" for 3-4 months.
